DP Daily Prompt: Waiting Room

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

“Good things come to those who wait.” Do you agree? How long is it reasonable to wait for something you really want?

I agree with the saying, I do not think if you want something really badly any time period is unreasonable, it can be thirteen years or more, the stars have to be aligned.

I will tell you why I wrote thirteen years. My husband was shopping for a car, he spent six months to decide which make or model he’d like to buy, he liked Ford better because this is what he read in the,’Consumer’s Reports’ a magazine that gave ideas of which model cars on the road is suitable.

Once my husband was satisfied with the model, it was necessary to know which color, he asked me which color do I prefer I told him my choice, he immediately brought out the disadvantages of my choice. He preferred the lemon color, and told me how the color would be visible when it is foggy or snowy, whereas my choice would make it difficult to see during the said days. I knew by his explanation he was leaning towards a lemon color car.

I told him to buy the color he likes, it was his money and I did not want to be difficult. Two months after buying the car, my husband took a new job. He was driving on  the highways of the province of Quebec, the day was foggy, we couldn’t see what was ahead of us. My husband was driving at 60 mph, suddenly he hit something on the highway, it was a dead animal, he noticed his fuel tank was showing empty, he went to a nearby garage in Nova Scotia to find out if there was a leak in the tank the attendant checked it and said , ‘No but your tank is damaged, it’s slightly bent but your tank is half full.’

It was a brand new car,my husband was not too pleased to find out what happened. This was the first incidence with “Mr. Lemon” then in winter, first thing in the morning the power steering froze, it was hard to move it,the only thing that would help was to start the car and wait ten minutes to unfreeze, he took the car to the dealers they could not fix it.

So we told ourselves we’d have to put up with it because the company had no solution. Two years later there was rust underneath the car even though my husband diligently put it through rust check.

Whenever my husband complained about the car, I was quick to point out, he could not expect anything better from a lemon.

He managed to hold on to the car for thirteen years, ignoring my comments about,”he was penny wise pound foolish.”

After thirteen years he was ready to change the car, when he decided on the model, he asked me again what color would I prefer, I  reminded him I didn’t want to waste my time telling him of my preference. He promised he’d buy the color I want.

It took thirteen years but I got what I wanted!

DP Daily Prompts: Local color

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Imagine we lived in a world that’s all of a sudden devoid of color, but where you’re given the option to have just one object keep its original hue. Which object( and which color) would that be?

In a world where everything and everyone is identifiable by color, it is tough to imagine it devoid of color. If for some reason we lose the colors of the world, it will be arduous to visualize such a world.

For a very long time blue was my favorite color, I wanted my mother to buy blue material for my dress, she did not disappoint me, why would she it made her task much easier.

If I were to choose a color and an object that would be my favorite color, it would either look odd or pretty depending on the object itself.

At this time I have more than one favorite color, if I select blue I’d be tired of seeing it day after day, next is green it too will tire me.

I will give up the option to decide the color and the object.

DP Daily Prompts: The Eighth Sin

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

For me the eighth sin is, “PREJUDICE”. It is a baseless and usually negative attitude toward members of a group.

When God created us I wonder if He thought that His creation will not get along because we are different. By this I mean not all of us speak the same language or practice the same religion or have the same skin color.

I remember I went to a store in a city where they will not speak to you if you spoke English, even though I was a customer and was there to spend my money and they were employed to make sure that the customers were treated with respect.

I was discriminated because I did not know their language, this is prejudice #1.

Then there is the issue of religion, what difference does it make if my religion is not the same. If I practice a certain religion, I am considered a terrorist, therefore they will have nothing to do with me.

Number 3 is color of my skin, why should it be an issue, but it is, there are known facts where if your skin color is different from the natives they wont rent their house or apartment.

I think eighth sin , “Prejudice”, is just as evil as the other seven sins!

365 days Writing Prompt: Silver linings

Write about something you consider “Ugly” — war, violence, failure, hatred–  but try to find a beauty , or a sense of hope, in your thoughts.

War,violence, failure, hatred, all of these things cause a lot of dissension in us humans. We can if we sincerely want prevent it from happening.

War in my mind causes the most damage,it kills innocent people, destroys the sanctity of life, injures a lot of people beyond repair, if we humans can set aside our differences by peaceful means, this world would be a much better place to live. War is not the answer to settle our differences think about some countries destroyed because of war, their women and children maimed for life, what was their crime other than they happen to be the citizens of a war torn country.

Some countries have more weapons than they can use, why may I ask? Were we created to be destructive, what can we gain out of this misery, do we feel proud of ourselves when we watch children crippled for life and worse yet crippled and orphaned, just to show we are powerful, will there be a phase in our life when we are no longer capable of using these killer weapons, will it make us realize after all that destruction and horror, when we are left to agonize and wonder how could we participate in this horrible crime?

I hope a day will come when war will be a thing of the past, we’d realize we are no different from the rest of humans. The color of our skin is light or dark depends on where we live, the same applies to languages, way of life , food and other things.

We are same otherwise we laugh when we are happy, passing of our near and dear ones makes us cry, we have our likes and dislikes, we eat what pleases our taste buds, we listen to our favorite songs and watch our favorite movies, we read, write, though the language is different our expressions are not that different.

Is it not possible to build a world where we love each other ?

Writing Prompt: Morphing

Language evolves. The meaning of a word can shift over time as we use it differently–think of “Cool”,”heavy”,or even ” literally”.Today give a word an evolutionary push: give a common word a new meaning, explain it to us ,and use it in the title of your post.

Morphing the word:  “Color” or British spelling, “Colour”

Let me use the word color as the word, I’d like to give   a push. I know you will say but we know that one already, I’ve tried to think of other words, but they’re not any different, they are morphed into shreds, so my thought is to see if I can really do something with it.

Sally and Sangita were two best friends. They met each other in kindergarten, one day Sally’s mom visited their school, apparently Sally forgot to take her lunch for school, her mom was worried she took her daughter’s lunch on her way to work. She parked her car in the parking lot, and went in to her daughters classroom, she noticed her daughter was busy doing her work, sitting beside her kid was Sangita. She raised her hand to get Sally’s attention who was busy showing something to her friend. Sangita noticed this lady didn’t know who she was but could see she was trying to get Sally’s attention, she gave her friend a gentle push and pointed to the lady waiting by the door. Sally was thrilled to see her mother, she asked her teacher’s permission to go and talk to her mother.

Mom looked a bit concerned,  “what is it she asked her Mom?”

Mom was lost in her thoughts, Sally repeated her question, her mom looked perturbed, without further delay she questioned her daughter,”who is that colored girl sitting next to you?”

“Colored she repeated, her name is Sangita , it’s not Colored, mom, Sangita is her name.”

“Why did you think her name is colored, it’s such a weird name tell me  mom she inquired.”

Mom was in serious trouble, how can she explain to her daughter why she called her Colored.

The following weeks were troublesome for the poor mom, she tried to tell her daughter a colorful story, the daughter wasn’t satisfied, this caused a lot of tension between the mom and daughter.

Mom had no choice but to explain, while she was making up another story her face turned purple, Sally noticed immediately, she exclaimed, “Mom your face is changed to a purple color, now I know why you called Sangita, Colored, perhaps her face was changing into all different colors and you thought her name is, Colored.”

Children are innocent by nature, it is we who confuse them by our behavior.

DP Daily Prompt: 2100 post by Ranu

Imagine There's No Hunger - Strawberry Fie...

Imagine There’s No Hunger – Strawberry Fields – Central Park, NYC (Photo credit: asterix611)

The population of the world is assimilating faster than we can say,”BOO”.  Everything from food, clothing, eating habits , interaction is happily adopted by the people of the universe. It is a very good sign.

Only a fraction of the world population,if at all will be ignorant. People will recognize each other. The color will no longer be a hindrance for making friends. This is already in the air.

In 2100, I can imagine how changed the world will be. In  eighty seven years the change will be phenomenal. John  Lennon’s song,” Imagine” will top the charts.

In that world there will be one language.I have named it, ” SHEMAPI’. I have taken the first letter of the seven most spoken languages in order of population.

There will be   One religion and no government, there won’t be any need. Farmers will grow and enjoy their crops,no one will take away anything. Poverty will be wiped out. No crooks will make the lives of people miserable. There’ll be no distinction between men and women.

Allama Iqbal’s Marghdeen will come into fruition! This is how I see the world in 2100.
