I eagerly listen

in my own impassable heart ,

again and again.

Someone is  crying and laughing;

I eagerly listen

to hear their secret,

again  and again.

I eagerly listen

again and again.

The wandering bumble bee  hides alone

behind the water lily.

I eagerly listen,

the bird of the night singing,

alone in the dark.

I eagerly listen

in my own impassable heart,

who it is, no one knows.

I have some idea,

some I can guess,

some I do not understand.

Sometimes the message is cloaked

in a musical note.

What can it be in my language?

I eagerly listen,

again and again!

Deener Shongi (Poem) Companion of the distressed By Tagore, Translated by Ranu

Live where the lowest of the lows

you make  your kingdom__

behind everyone, below the lowliest, amid the bereft.

When I bow to you

my obeisance stops,

where your footsteps meet  disgrace

I am unable to prostrate__

behind everyone, below the lowliest, amid the bereft.

Pride cannot reach where you move

poorly clad like a destitute__

behind all, below the poor, amid the abandoned.

Where there is wealth and respect

I hope your company there,

You are a companion of the distressed

my heart cannot   go down there__

behind all, below the lowliest, amid the abandoned.

(Shathi) Companion   by Rabindranath Tagore

Fellow pedestrian,I salute you__

accept obeisance from the travellers.

Farewell dear,  dear loss,    dear lord of the end of day,

accept a bow from the damaged house.

O new morning daylight,   O forever in motion,

I salute you for new hope.

O coachman of life’s chariot,  I am constantly preparing the way,

I bow to you for enabling me to move on.

Life’s Journey by Tagore Translation by ranu

Life’s Journey     Rabindranath Tagore

Your journey is beginning.     Mine is ending.

You and I together will flow on forever.

Your light is shining, you have a companion.

I have the night before me.   The stars are shining above me.

Your journey is beginning. Mine is ending.

You are on land.     I am in the water.

You are sitting calmly.    I am restless and moving.

Your hand is young and strong.   My hand is old and rusty.

In your mind you are fearful.     I am free from fear.

Your journey is beginning.  Mine is ending.

You and I together will flow on forever.
