Poetry, Day Seven: Flavor

Poetic Toolkit : Found Poetry

Found words from Allama Iqbal’s book of poems

the words are: you, has, sun, voice, his, creature, native,  moon, Brahmin, evening’s

A man pressed our doorbell one stormy day,

I asked him Sir, ‘What brings You here this way?’

His Voice was  sweet, but his face firm,

Said, ‘I’m a Brahmin  need not be alarmed.

Native I am from your old country,

Has it occurred to you outside is stormy?

The sky is dark the moon isn’t visible,

On a day like this must you be cruel!’

His words embarrassed me so much,

I let him in then noticed him holding a crutch.

Next morning the Sun was shining at its best,

Our guest thanked us for Evening’s rest.

I thought of the words I borrowed from Iqbal,

He loved God’s Creature, one and all!

Writing 101, Day Four: A story in a single image

Image of a handful of blueberries: Download by Maja Petric

I chose the image from unsplash.com

For this exercise , use one of the images as the creative spark for today’s post. You might use it as a setting for a story or poem, write about how it makes you feel, or describe a memory conjured by it.

Hands full of blueberries,

For you I’ve brought to see.

They are luscious and pretty,

I bet you will agree.

You can use them to make pies,

Or for muffins or  cookies,

Or we can eat them ,

And  show our purple teeth .

Friends will turn away,

Neighbors too,

Young Patsy will hide her face,

And  will yell, “what have you done?”

“I cannot call you mom anymore,

My friends will make fun of me,”

They will say, “you are crazy,”

I will say,” it’s your imagination!”

Then let’s not eat it,

Just plain,

let’s make muffins,

For us to devour it.

Muffins I baked,

We sat together and ate,

Oh how much fun we had,

Sang loudly our good friend Kate!!

Well I tried to use the image in a make-believe poem. I am not good writing poems you can see. I will appreciate your feed back dear  participants. 🙂

DP Daily Prompt: Circle of Five

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

A writer once said, “you are the average of five people you spend the most time with.”  If this is true, which five people would you like to spend your time with?

The five people I’d like to spend time with are my best friends Mini and Dilruba  , my colleague Atiya, my daughter Selina, and  my neighbor Agnes.

All of them are known to me for several years, of course I know my daughter since she was born.

Mini my best friend was my classmate in my post graduate class, we became very good friends while in school, we kept it up to this day.

I met Dilruba when I moved to North America, I visit her  when I go to Montreal, we love each others company. Our conversation begins with food and ends with diet.

Atiya was my colleague when I first started teaching in Residential Model school. She is a very kind person.

Selina and I have a good time discussing various foods and which one is good for us and also the ones we should watch.

Agnes was a very dear neighbor when I lived in her town. We were next door neighbors, Agnes liked baking cookies, I was always on her list when she distributed them. She is an excellent cook and  a very friendly person.

The above are the five people I’d love to spend time with, all of them are very good to me, I always enjoy their company.

DP Daily Prompt: Happy Endings

I tried to quit eating sweet stuff such as cookies, chocolate, desserts, I always tell myself it’s not good for me. It makes me gain weight, or have problems with my teeth, and the worst thing is diabetes.

I managed to curtail eating these things, but not completely. I used to bake a variety of cookies, find recipes from ‘Better Homes And Gardens’ and would fill my cookie tins. I baked them for my kids. I have one habit that I want to lose,it is tasting them. I can never stop after one, I’d eat four or five and then stop.

I decided to make the cookies and not taste them at all. My husband would say, “you know kids your Mom knows her cookies are horrible that’s why she doesn’t eat them, she gives them to us.” To prove it was not true,I’d eat them.

When I couldn’t resist the temptation,I stopped baking all the sweets.  I still eat some but not the way I used to.
