Daily Prompt : Lust

In response to one-word prompt : Lust

History proves, lust for power is the cause of downfall of humans. Some humans fall due to their insatiable greed for money, more they have, more they want. It makes humans lose their conscience, they accumulate money by stealing, making deals with crooks, in the end trap themselves in a dire situation.

I remember reading about Mahmud of  Ghazni, who loved money, it’s obvious he amassed it by unfair means, it’s alleged by historians that in his deathbed he requested the people around him to show him all his money, when they did so, he cried because he couldn’t take it with him.

This proves money is not everything, it’s not the gateway to heaven more than likely it’s the gateway to hell, if the person got this money by deceiving, lying and cheating innocent people.

I am sure this craving for power and money is an addiction, it gives no peace to the one who has it and makes other people around him, concerned because his behavior is so unpredictable.

DP Daily Prompts: No Excess

“Perhaps too much of everything is as bad as too little.”— Edna Ferber

Do you agree with this statement on excess?

I agree too much of everything is as bad as too little.

One of the things I find troubling  is those who are affluent, how much food they waste, the adults and  their children don’t hesitate to throw away food which was cooked for them because suddenly they have a craving for fast food, so they decide to leave to go to a fast food place to satisfy their craving.

Then there are people looking in the garbage to find food that’s thrown away by some rich kid. They are prepared to eat anything they find to satisfy their hunger.

This is when I think some have too much others have too little there is no balance.

365 Writing Prompts: Moved to tears

Describe the last time you were moved to tears by something beautiful.

The last time I was moved to tears was a few days ago after I finished reading the memoir of an author, who wrote about his life as a five year old boy, his mother left him to take care of his 18 months old sister, she had to work for days to provide food for her family.

They were so poor, he once saw his sister, eating charcoal to curb her hunger.

He insisted his older brother to take him with him, so he could see what type of work he does, his brother left him on the bench of a railway station and told him to stay there until he came back for him.

A five year old how much do they understand is what I thought while I was reading the book. Sure enough he left the bench to look for his brother whom he couldn’t find but ended up in places he didn’t recognize.

He was exceptionally fortunate to come in contact with a boy who took him to the police station, the authorities could not locate his home because of the scanty description he gave them.

He was taken to an orphanage and eventually ended up with an Australian family who adopted him. This little boy was amazed to see the difference of craving for food and then getting the food without any problem, he saw poverty and its opposite within a short time of his life.

He did not forget his family, it took him  twenty-five years to find his family. I was moved to tears when I read how he was united with his mother and the siblings!

DP Daily Prompts: Nosey Delights

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

From the yeasty warmth of freshly baked bread to the clean, summery haze of lavender flowers, we all have favorite smells we find particularly comforting, What’s yours?

This month my favorite smell which is particularly comforting is food, any kind, spicy, non spicy, sweet, sour you name it, I like it.

When I wake up in the morning I’m disheartened when I see the clock tells me it’s eight in the morning, I sit on my comfortable couch and begin counting how many more hours I’d have to wait to smell and eventually eat the food. Would you believe it’s another twelve hours before I get to smell and eat.

While I wait I turn on the TV and watch the food network, there is a show called chopped and another one is ‘Cut throat Kitchen’, this one is amazing how the chefs do everything to get ahead of the next person. It’s helpful to me, my time passes quickly.

Yesterday the sun set at 8.53 pm which meant it was time for me to eat. After fasting so long the craving for food suddenly disappeared.
