Daily Prompt : Succumb

In response to Daily Prompt : Succumb

Each day I try not to succumb to life’s pressure,

Giving in to it helps to move on and feel fresher.

Some people find it difficult  to surrender,

They’re strong and their heart is not  tender!

Daily Prompt : Tame

In response to daily Prompt : Tame

I found out even our pets need discipline. Our Raphael is the one who needs the most. To tame him I use my stern voice, he knows I am serious, which keeps him from chewing our books, climb the mantelpiece, and fight with the other cats.

All three of them watch me when I threaten Rafa for bad behavior. Sophie imitates whatever Rafa does, I have to correct her too by using my favorite words, ‘Sophie, it’s a No, No.’

It’s amazing how she understands what she is doing is wrong!

Daily Prompt : Fraud

In response to daily prompt :  Fraud

At a time when certain groups in the world earn their living by cheating, it’s important  for innocent people to trust no one.

The other day there was an article in Reader’s Digest, it tells us to use caution when throwing away receipts, especially when we use a credit card  to pay for the goods we buy.

I bought a shredder to shred anything important before I throw away the receipts, sometimes I wonder if going paperless is the way to go.

Technology is awesome but it can also hurt us if we are negligent.

Daily Prompt :Superficial

In response to daily prompt :  Superficial

Last March we had a wind storm, there was only a superficial damage at one corner of the house, The strong wind blew off part of the siding in one corner of our house. Even though it was a minor damage. Aesthetically it ruined the look of the house.

Passersby often pointed out that  a slight damage to one corner of the house spoiled its outward appearance.

I called the company to take care of it, but the manager was in no hurry, each time I called he told me he’d look after it, next week. Several weeks passed I didn’t hear from anyone in that company.

I complained that  by the time they come to do the work, it would be winter. I got in touch with the adjuster via email, she forwarded my email to the supervisor. A day later they called me, and assured me they will start the work.

After five and a  half months, the workers came, pulled off the old siding of the house and replaced it with new. There were two conscientious workers, they told me they’d complete the work in five days and they almost did, but  they ran out of a piece of material and had to  come back one more day to finish the work.

Now the neighbors will no longer complain about the damaged corner which truly was an eyesore!

Daily Prompt : Genius

In response to daily prompt :  Genius

A long time ago when we were kids, we met a tailor, he fled from his birthplace in India during the communal riots, and came to Rawalpindi.

Fortunately he opened his shop in front of our house.

One day he came to our house and asked my mom if she had a sewing machine, mom said, ‘Yes.’

He told my mom his story, how he ran away from India with his family, that he was a tailor by profession.

He asked,  ‘Will you lend me your machine, if you do I’ll stitch your clothes free?’

Mom was known for helping anyone in trouble. She lent her machine to the tailor, the man as promised did not charge us for stitching our clothes.

As we got to know him we’d take some magazines and ask him if he could stitch a dress like the one in the picture.

He said, ‘Yes I can make a dress exactly like this, you have to get the fabric you like.’

The first time we gave  him the fabric, he stitched the dress exactly like the picture in the magazine, I thought, WOW! this guy is a “Genius!”

Daily Prompt : Deny

In response to the prompt : Deny

I  asked one little boy, ‘Do you smoke?’

He denied at once, ‘No Miss I Don’t!’

I thought and thought, ‘How Can I,’

Teach him never to tell such a bad lie.

His refusal to admit amazed me so much,

I could not help but ask him who gave it to you,

He suddenly said, ‘It’s a boy named Lou!’

Daily Prompt : Popular

In response to daily prompt : Popular

Roger Federer is the most popular tennis player, one wonders how did he  become so prominent. He has many qualities, one of them is he won nineteen Grand Slam Tennis titles. He is humble, he treats his fans well, I think other players in his circle should try to follow his example.

I know, not every one can win so many tennis titles, but if they are nice and friendly, perhaps they can try some things, for starters, well-liked if they do not have too big an ego, they can agree they’re human therefore they will make mistakes like normal people.

I’ve seen someone in the world stage, whose popularity is waning each day he tweets, or talks, he lacks humility, these are negative things about this person. Every day I watch him I wonder, how did he become like this. For people to like him he must transform himself.

He must tell the truth because, “Honesty Is The Best Policy!”

Daily Prompt : Circle

In response to one- word Prompt :  Circle

It’s hard to  choose one’s circle of friends,

It’s not easy to see how each one spends.

His/her time when they’re alone,

Perhaps they always moan and groan.

Some of the members  in their band,

Are too picky which is hard to stand.

What must one do if this is the case,

They must leave and  try another group!
