Daily Prompts: The Heat is On

Do you thrive under pressure or crumble at the thought of it?Does your best stuff surface as the deadline approaches or you need to iterate, day after day to achieve something you’re proud of? Tell us how you work best.

I do not have a specific pattern doing my work. Sometimes I work best under pressure such as deadlines, I feel scared of them, not being able to meet them, is my worst fear. It depends on the type of deadlines.

Once I was applying for a scholarship, there was a specific deadline or else my application would be rejected. I knew my application had to go through the Principal of the school where I was working, I knew he will slow down the process so my application reaches late and I’d be disqualified. I got in touch with the secretary who was handling the applications, I asked her if it was possible to send my application to meet the deadline, so if the school delays it, I’d still be considered . She told me it was perfectly all right that I am allowed  to send it. I sent my application and I was glad I took that route. My Principal was not in favor. He told me,”Why are you applying for this, we will send you after two years?”

I knew it wouldn’t happen, I believe in the phrase,”A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.”

I’m glad I did what I thought was the right thing to do. I am always glad I thought of sending my application earlier.I was awarded the scholarship which I wanted so badly. Sometimes it needs a bit of creativity to handle deadlines!

DP Daily Prompt: Wasted days and wasted nights

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Tell us your tried and true techniques for focusing when that deadline looms and you need to get work done, how do you avoid wasted days and wasted nights?

Actually I tend to leave things  to be done a few days before the deadline. It’s a very stressful time for me. I am not a night person, so I depend on the daytime. I get up early and start doing the work I neglected to do all week. This means I don’t cook, don’t clean up, as far as food goes I always have leftovers and I don’t mind eating them to save time, thank God someone invented the micro wave oven, things get heated in a jiffy.

As far as cleaning goes I conveniently leave it until I complete the work to meet the deadline. I tell myself I hope no one visits me these few days, because I don’t like the label,”She is a messy housewife”.

This is how I take care of the deadline, not a great thing to do I guess, as long as the work is done and I have successfully completed it, ‘I’m as happy as a lark.”

DP Daily Prompt: The Heat is On

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

It is funny how the prompt exposes our nature maybe indirectly. When I read Today’s Prompt, I stopped and thought for a moment and my inner and outer self told me,’ you are the type of person who works under pressure.’

If I have too much time for an assignment I do procrastinate. I always find myself rushing to get my work done when I realize I have to get it done immediately, because I let the time go by.

Whether I work well or not under pressure is something I don’t know. When the deadline knocks on my door I don’t have time to see whether my production is good bad or otherwise. It’s funny how my mind works, I have told myself I must start doing my assignment right away and I have tried but I do not feel motivated.

It means to me I was always like that, my dad did not caution me, perhaps he thought I was too young. The one person who wouldn’t let go was big sis, well her persistence only made me more stubborn.

I remember  when I started my online course I asked the question if there was a deadline for the assignment,I also said I have a habit of delaying, the reply was firm as well as friendly, certain amount of procrastination is okay, but to make it a habit is discouraged.

I am better now than I was before. Deadlines are what I need to keep me from going out of focus,I think!!
