Daily Prompt : Those Dishes Won’t Do Themselves

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

What’s the household task you most dislike doing? Why do you think that is–is it the task itself, or something more?

I dislike using the vacuum cleaner the most. It is an expensive cleaner, I was not careful enough when I bought it. The attachments are very difficult to take apart. We’ve bought this make all the time, had no issue until now. Because of the attachments I don’t want to use it. I cannot leave it either.

I’m relieved when my daughter vacuums,I don’t have to struggle with the attachments.

DP Daily Prompt: Reason to Believe

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

In Reason to Believe ,Bruce Springsteen sings,”At the end of every hard-earned day, people find some reason to believe.” What’s your reason to believe?

My reason to believe is as long as I am honest, truthful, and I never hurt or cheat anyone. I will be awarded by God.I say this from experience.

My father passed away when I was twelve, I had no idea how my mother will be able to take care of twelve children. I had two brothers and a sister, who had almost finished their education.

There were nine of us left to complete our education.  My two older  brothers supported  us by contributing funds for our education.

I always wanted to study in England, I knew it can never happen, my brothers could not bear the expense because it was too expensive to go there to study.

I kept hoping maybe I’ll be fortunate and get a scholarship to study in England. I wasn’t really positive it can happen, hope is a wonderful word and I kept hoping the day will come. It did and I grabbed it.

Now I believe everyone should hope, you never know when God would look down from heaven and say, “this person’s hope needs to be fulfilled.”

It was surely me He  looked at and said those unbelievable words!

DP Daily Prompt: Think Global, Act Local

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

“Think Global.” Write a post connecting a global issue to a personal one.

There is a global concern about the change of climate due to global warming. Here at home our weather is very uncertain. There was a time when we knew how much snow we will have, I mean approximately. Now we have rain instead of snow, no I am  not complaining , I know I do not have to shovel rain yet I am concerned about this change.

How will this change of weather affect us, will it be detrimental to farmers who expect a certain kind of weather to grow food. If this happens food will be expensive, they already are and how much more can a family afford to pay for produce that they need daily!

DP Daily Prompts: Cliche

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Cliches become cliches for a reason. Tell us about the last time a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush.

I use this expression quite often, we as humans are tempted to think if we wait, something better might show up, it’s not always the case.

My daughter and I were looking for an apartment in London ,my daughter went online, she saw a few and wrote the addresses and phone numbers so she could contact them.

She was able to get an appointment to see one at 10 am next morning. At 10 am we were there to see the apartment, it was a one room apartment, one could use it as a bedroom at night and living room during the day.

The rent was 210 GBP a week, I knew it was expensive, there were some advantages it was close to her place of work, there were little shops nearby where my daughter could get her groceries, it was in a good area and it was a secure place. My daughter wanted to see other apartments which were even closer to her place of work.

While we were talking to the landlord, I saw another couple waiting to see the apartment. It was the time of year when apartments in London were scarce and those that were available were grabbed by the would be tenants right away.

I told my daughter, “let’s not wait, let’s take this one.”

I felt if we let it go we may not get another one as close to her work as the one we viewed. I reminded her, “a bird in hand is better than two in the bush.”

We took the apartment, my daughter spent one year in that place and loved it.

DP Daily Prompts: Second Opinion

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

What are some( or one) of the things about which you usually you usually don’t trust your own judgement, and need someone else’s confirmation?

I consider second opinion a very valuable thing it gives us hope. A while ago my husband was recommended to see a cardiologist about his heart condition. we do have cardiologists in our city. They were too busy and didn’t really care about my husband.

My husband made inquiries and was told to go to London, Ontario, Canada, to see a well-known cardiologist there.

Without wasting any time we went to London, Ontario, the cardiologist was a very kind man, he made arrangements to see a cardiac surgeon who worked in the same hospital. The surgeon we met was the most pessimistic physician I’ve ever met. His immediate response was, “If I take you to the Operating Room, you’d be dead, and I’d have to talk to your wife, I cannot take your case.” his demeanor, the way he talked was enough to let us know it is hopeless.

We went back to the cardiologist who was sympathetic, he advised my husband to go to the Cleveland  clinic and get a second opinion,  ‘they never give up’ he said. We could see light at the end of the tunnel, my husband hesitated for a moment, it was expensive, should he go through it, what if it doesn’t work out. I told him the money he talked about is what he earned, why should he hesitate to spend it for his health.

We went to the Cleveland clinic, hoping the doctor there would not turn us back. After going through my husband’s chart he said, “It’s not going to be a walk in the park”, he was willing to try.

My husband was booked for surgery immediately, the day of surgery I was scared, I stayed quiet, I didn’t want the other family members to lose hope. It took several hours, we were the last family called by the physician, he said it went well, but they needed 72 hours to finally tell us that he’d be okay.

This was one wise decision my husband and I took, it worked out for us, to me second opinion is very important!

Filet mignon

After  eating some of the foods in London, I was not so thrilled to go to a restaurant in Montreal to have dinner. I could not decline, I was newly married and also there was a guest my husband invited for dinner. How could I spoil my husband’s excitement of tasting ‘filet mignon’ for the umpteenth time.

We were dressed up. My husband was taking us to a posh restaurant. We reached the place and were seated. My husband proudly ordered filet mignon for us . I saw the waiter bringing in a piece of meat which was served on a plate three sizes too big for the piece of meat. My husband whispered ,”You will love this, it is the most expensive piece of meat.”

Okay I thought, it doesn’t look attractive at all ,why is it so expensive?

Then it was time to start eating. I watched my husband eating, each time he sliced a piece, pure blood was gushing out. If this happened at home,I’d send it back to cook it again. I was in a restaurant, I shouldn’t think these things.

Slowly I picked up the fork and knife, to my dismay, the blood gushing out was more from my piece than my husband’s. I was completely grossed out, I was eating raw meat. I ate a quarter of it with much difficulty. I then excused myself saying I was full I couldn’t eat any more. I slid the plate to my husband and asked him to finish it. He complied with pleasure!
