365 Writing Prompts: Singular sensation

If one experience or life change results from you writing your blog, what would you like it to be?

The first day I started blogging I had no aim in mind. I wanted to know what it’s about. Now after blogging for over two years, it has become a part of me. I look forward to the prompts and the impression of bloggers who read my writing.

Slowly but surely I am wondering what does it take to write an unbelievable poem like some bloggers I’ve come into contact with or dare to write a story which will attract more bloggers than I have right now. All these are thoughts that I have, when they can come into fruition I wonder.

I have written several five sentence fiction, if I gather these stories  into one long story and publish a book of short stories, will it fulfill my desire ? I don’t know, at this point I am only curious about these things.

I also know just because I’m writing I will not become a novelist overnight, it needs a special skill to be one. Although I do believe if I could use my writing experience and wrote a book of short stories it will definitely give me the kind of confidence I’m lacking at this time.

Daily Prompt: Hear No Evil

pad2015-s1.png (308Ă—60)

Tell us about a conversation you couldn’t help but overhear and wish you hadn’t.

Sometimes when I visit the medical centre for a check up I overhear the conversations between patients and physicians, some discussions are not very positive. This is when I feel I wish I didn’t hear the bad news.

Then in the waiting room at the hospital there are discussions among friends about their in-laws, which is not very nice, those times I do think, I wish their family situation was not made so public.

I’ve had some personal experience, where my sister-in-law would be talking to someone about me. It not only upsets me, I also made up my mind not to talk to her.

Daily Prompt: Baggage Check

We all have complicated histories. When was the last time your past experiences informed a major decision you’ve made?

Fortunately for me I really didn’t have complicated histories.

I was twelve when my father passed away, all the decisions regarding where we’d settle was made by my Mom. She thought there was no reason to stay away from our homeland, therefore we packed our bags and left.

We settled in a small town, it provided everything we needed such as schools and colleges. After graduating from high school I  registered in the local college, completed two years and decided to go to Dhaka city to complete the rest of my education.

Things could have been complicated if my two brothers refused to pay my tuition and residence fees but they were very co-operative, they paid my fees regularly, all I was expected to do was study. I kept my end of the bargain, and successfully  completed my education without any problems.

I did not have to make any major decision like quitting school to get a job.

If one experience or life change results from you writing your blog, what would you like it to be?

I’m hoping my college friend Aziz Fatima would see my blog and contact me. It will be so much fun. I asked my friend Evie if she knew about her whereabouts, she says she doesn’t.

If it happens there is so much to catch up. This is one experience I’m longing to have.

DP Daily Prompt: Hello, Goldilocks!

pad2015-s1.png (308Ă—60)

Write about a time you had a Goldilocks experience, exploring different choices and finally arriving at “just right.”

Yes I had a Goldilocks  experience in our food court in the mall. Once I went to one of the shops that claimed they were serving, ‘Mid eastern food,’ I wasn’t impressed it did not taste like anything, it was bland  and tasteless.

I then went to try out ‘Rice bowl’ they served too much rice, vegetables sliced too large and shrimps were too small, which was a disappointment.

I then   tried ‘Thai express’, it is a new one opened recently, they had different kinds of food, I chose chicken with noodles, there was a lot of rice noodles, very little chicken pieces, they said it was spicy, I didn’t think they have  any knowledge of using the right amount of spices. The mixture of variety of  spices made the dish tasteless.

Last week-end we went to the same, ‘Thai Express’ , this time I ordered rice with chicken, it was quite good. The chef did a better job this time, which can be because he gained more experience as this dish is ordered by more customers.

365 Writing Prompts: Safety First

Share the story of a time you felt unsafe.

I have learned from experience that at times the so called family friends are the ones ,one must be careful of.

It happened one day, my sister’s friend’s husband came to pick me up to go to his home for supper, I guess his wife was busy cooking, so she didn’t come with him.

I knew who he was since I was only ten or eleven years old, he came to our house a few times, my Dad was not so fond of him because he once asked his wife to take off his shoes in my Dad’s presence. He told my mom, “this man is very ill-mannered.”

My mom laughed and didn’t think much of the incidence.

A few years later he found out where I was teaching,he came to take me to his house, on the way he suddenly looked at me and said, “What would you do if I take you somewhere else?”

Those words terrified me, I stayed quiet, he laughed, I felt unsafe and told myself I’d never go anywhere with a man even if I knew him.

On the way back I coaxed his wife to come with us so she could see where I lived.

DP Daily Prompt: Matters of Taste

pad2014-s.png (308Ă—60)

When was the last time a movie, a book,or a television show left you cold despite all your friends (and/ or all the critics) raving about it? What was it that made you go against the critical consensus?

I cannot recall having an experience like that. I’ve watched movies, read books or watched  television shows that were recommended by my daughter, I found them as good as she described them.

365 Writing Prompt: Singular sensation

If one experience or life change results from writing your blog, what would you like it to be?

Writing my blog has helped me to know a lot of people. I love reading their comments and I also get to read their posts. There are poems written by bloggers I enjoy, stories of some bloggers are absolutely amazing.

When I started I had no idea how it will pan out, after two years, I can say this experience is wonderful for me.

One experience or life change results from writing my blog, what would I like it to be. I think I would like to know more people from all over the world.

Their way of life, the language they speak, the foods they eat, their schools and colleges. The one thing I’m really interested to learn  is about  the food they eat and get some recipes. I know the food network shows a lot of different kinds of cooking, I’m interested to know the recipes from local people.

This is one experience I’d like to have, it may not change my life but it will be fun to learn.

DP Daily Prompt: Talking in Your Sleep

pad2014-s.png (308Ă—60)

I had the unfortunate experience of overhearing my two older brothers and my older sister, since the conversation was about me I wanted to know what was irking them.

I was in the next room and they were not exactly talking softly to keep me from hearing them. My older sister deliberately spoke in her loudest voice, that I was in the city because I did not want to go to school. She totally ignored the fact that Mom sent me there to take care of the brother who was sick.

How did the conversation make me feel? I was livid, I packed my bag and went home.
