Daily Prompt : Miraculous

In response to prompt : Miraculous

Imagine a family walking on the street among enemies who were knocking down people and looting houses, amidst all this violence this family kept their cool and went onwards to their destination.

The only thing they carried was the Holy Quran!

They were not killed, in fact no one touched them. To me this is certainly Miraculous!

Daily Prompts: Pride and Joy

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

What’s your most prized possession?

Material possessions I probably have more than enough.Whenever something catches my fancy, I tend to buy it if it is affordable. I cannot consider any of these things as my prized possession.

I think of friends, family, acquaintances, they are nice to have but I’m not sure they are my prized possession.

My most prized possession is good health. If I didn’t have good health, family, friends or acquaintances will shy away from me. I do not blame them.

Human nature is complex it’s not easy to interact with someone who is ill. Yes we all have compassion but when we witness it for a considerable length of time. The compassion turns to boredom, we start distancing ourselves with someone who is not well.

A healthy body and mind is the most prized possession for me, everything else is secondary!

I am looking at a painting of Norman Rockwell. Looks like the family is gathered for Thanks Giving dinner. The family is waiting patiently for the Turkey dinner.

Mama’s got the Turkey roasted and is about to place it on the dinner table. There are smiling faces, it is a joyous occasion.

While almost everyone is anxious to get started to eat dinner, there is one friendly fellow  inviting me to join them.I’m thinking is Mama a good cook?If she is I must have a bite with them. Then again do they have enough food for one extra plate?

Uncles, aunts and Grandma is visible too. What if they are not ready to welcome a complete stranger. Let me try and see if they would share the Turkey dinner with me.

Can you see me there, the little girl in the corner is smiling at me. Okay I’m in their midst, can you see me? Mama’s Turkey was worth waiting for. I’m so stuffed up,I won’t need to eat for a week, wait a minute did I say a week, no, no, a half a day.

Bye mama, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters and papa, thank you so much for inviting me, will see you next Thanks Giving dinner, yum yum!

365 Writing Prompt: Tell us your story

Tell us about a journey — whether a physical trip you took or an emotional one.

This trip was physical as well as emotional. It was one of those trips you hope no one will ever have to take. It was necessary for the family to find out whether there was any hope to get their most important family member get well. The first trip was within the country, where the physician without hesitation gave his verdict, it was pointless to have heart surgery because the patient would not be able to survive it.

Next step was to go somewhere else, the said patient was already too weak to undergo any kind of surgical procedure. The physician treating him was the best one, who admitted it won’t be easy, but he’d be able to operate.

The day of surgery was tense for the family members, on the appointed time the guy came to the hospital room to take the patient to the operating room  for surgery. As he was leaving he said, “do not wait in the hospital, go to your hotel, it will take hours to operate.”

The family members went back to the hotel but came back a few hours later. This is when the waiting game started. All the family members of the patients were leaving with a smile on their faces.

This family had no idea whether the surgery was completed, how was the patient, there was no one to give an answer. At about 10 pm the family was called, the physician showed up and gave his account of how the surgery went. The surgery was successful but the family needed to wait for seventy-two hours, before the physician would be able to say, if the patient will be okay.

After seventy-two hours the family was told the patient will be okay and he’d have to stay in the hospital for a month to recuperate.

A month later the patient was released and was allowed to take the flight home!

Writing 101 Day Eight: Death to Adverbs

Today’s Prompt : Go to a local cafe, park or public place and write a piece inspired by something you see. Get detailed : leave no nuance behind.

Thoughtful writers create meaning by choosing precise words to create vivid pictures in the reader’s mind. As you strive to create strong imagery, show your reader’s what’s going on;avoid telling them.

Today’s Twist: Write an adverb free post.

My daughter dropped me off in  front of the mall, I walked in and looked around. I watched as a sales girl scooped tea leaves into a canister for a customer at the David’s Tea; I did not stop but continued walking.   I headed to the second floor to find a spot in the food court where I could sit and observe, but the place was full.

I went down to the lower level and found a small coffee shop where I could write my prompt.  Ahead of me in the line was a family: a father with baby in the pram and a bouncy toddler skipping her way in.   The little girl turned around and let her father know what she wanted.  Exhausted with the extra pressure of taking care of two little ones, he pointed to the seats and bid the toddler to sit down, while he got the food.

I watched with amusement as the frazzled man tended to his kids, then it was my turn to order.  The girl behind the counter looked at me and smiled, “What would you like?”

I answered at once  “A  small Cappuccino and a  cookie.”

She nodded and started to prepare my order, motioning me to the girl at the cash register.

I waited for my coffee as the father and his daughters walked out with their food.

Minutes later,  with my small cappuccino and cookie in hand, I spotted a corner in the shop to sit down. I dashed towards it, made myself comfortable, opened my book and scribbled some notes.

I took two sips of the cappuccino but found it too hot and tasteless. I did not want to drink it anymore, so I trashed it and left the coffee shop.

I remembered that I needed some hand towels, so I headed towards the Winners department store. I picked up three towels, paid the cashier, and since I had nothing else to do I left the mall.  I darted across the parking lot to the bus stop , arriving within seconds of my bus.  I waited for its passengers to get off and then hopped on and into the front seat.

Hi , I’d appreciate some feedback please.

Writing 101: random writing for fifteen minutes

I was looking forward to the prompt today, I think we’ll only get them on week days. This gives me a chance to write something, which might not be that interesting .but I’m writing which makes me happy.

I appreciated getting a comment from one blogger, who has a real sense of humor, I was delighted, I wrote about the shell that disappeared from my desk at school. she said maybe the ocean came and took it back. This reminded me of my childhood when we the siblings spent hours teasing each other, we did not need toys.

I thought I had gone back to my good old days when all we  were interested to do was tease each other. my younger brother would not leave me alone if I tried to speak  my mother tongue the way it should be spoken, not like a dialect, He’d have that silly grin when he would keep imitating the way I spoke until I’d be fed up and told him to leave me alone.

This reminds me of the song those days we thought will never end. They did end we are left to talk about it, sometimes we’d be sad other times we’d laugh and say to ourselves we are lucky we were a large family, we did not need friends, we had each other that was perfect for us.

As a family we  were very close, except we had the odd one who was too conceited to even talk to us. Yes she came from the same parents, she was a spoilt child who always wished she was the only child.

We the rest of us had a whale of a time we walked everywhere when we were not in school.I think of those days and tell myself thank God we loved each other, except the one black sheep we had, she was no fun and we did not want her company.

Now we barely see each other, we all have families of our own, we live in different countries, it’s not easy to visit each other. 🙂

DP Daily Prompts: Call Me Ishmael

Take the first sentence from your favorite book and make it the first sentence of your post.

“So, then. You want a story and I will tell one.”

I just want to caution you readers, please do not be sad, sadness is a part of life, this woman seems to have the lion’s share in this department, or God thought she  can endure it better than anyone in her family.

This story begins in a very small town, there are only ten thousand people here, it includes men women and children old and young.

My story focuses on a particular family, there was the wife the husband and soon there was an addition a child. The parents spent most of their free time looking after her.

Then the wife gets a job she has to leave the little infant in the care of a baby sitter, it was not something the parents wanted to do, the times were difficult two jobs were better than one.

Days were passing by smoothly until the first baby sitter decided to quit her job. It was a trying time for the parents, they were looking for another baby sitter, luckily they found one.

She was the mother of five children, she was looking for a job any job, baby sitting was not the kind of  job she wanted, she accepted it as she waited for some other lucrative job. In the meantime the small family of three were happy to find someone to take care of their little one.

Two years and some months later there was an addition to the family another daughter, meanwhile the family needed another baby sitter to look after two babies the previous   baby sitter left after she landed a very good job.

The family found one, this new baby sitter was very helpful, she not only looked after the two kids, she also baked bread and cooked dinner for the family. Life was good the kids were happy and so were the parents.

The kids passed different stages of their life and soon they were leaving home for higher studies. After completion they went their separate ways for jobs in cities they liked. They were successful.

The second child however always told her sister, she wants to live as far away from her parents as possible, she was finally in control of her destiny, and did not feel the need for parents because it would mean having them over and entertaining them, she didn’t mind making the occasional phone call    she didn’t want to lose her  inheritance  after the death of the parents. The second one is happy, she has her own place, to make sure none of her parents came to visit her she emailed her mother, she said,”I only want to have a courteous relationship with you.”

This was unexpected the mother had just finished saying her morning prayer, she turned her computer on  and found this message, as shocking as it was she did not delay writing her back, she wrote “You do not need to have any kind of relationship courteous or otherwise.” then she mailed it!

365 Writing Prompts: A Random Act of Kindness

Tell us about the time when you performed a secret random act of kindness—where the recipient of your kindness never found out about your good deed. How did the deed  go down?

In my religion we are expected to give monetary help to those who are less fortunate. I donated money to our local Mosque for a while, now I usually send the money to my brother,he gives it to the local orphanage.

About a couple of years ago I asked my friend if he knew someone I could send some money to help out, he got hold of his friend and arranged to send the money to him, his friend knew a family who were having a bit of trouble and could use the money. The money I believe was very helpful as the family had some debt which they paid off.

The deed certainly was well received, it doesn’t matter if they did not know who gave the money.

365 Writing Prompts: Love to love yourself

What do you love most about yourself ? What do you love most about your favorite person? Are the two connected?

I love everything about myself, I am not selfish, I love children, I love good friends.

I never wanted to be anyone else but me, I am proud of my parents,my mom taught me how to deal with people, she was extremely religious, she pointed out if  I was doing anything wrong. I learned a lot from my mother.

I try to help my friends and family whenever the situation demands.

My favorite person is a very kind, extremely nice individual, we agree with each other, ‘that kindness is never wasted.’
