Daily Prompts: Express Yourself !

Do you love to dance,sing, write,sculpt,paint, or debate? What’s your favorite way to express yourself, creatively?

There are so many choices, yet I cannot find one that is my favorite. It’s not anyone’s fault I didn’t do so well in any of the above.

I did not get a chance to learn dancing. I did like singing, but was told no, ‘you are not allowed to learn to sing, you will neglect your studies.’

Sculpt, paint or debate were never my favorite.

The only thing left is,’Write.’ I’m trying my best to use this skill creatively.

I’ve tried my hand in poetry, it didn’t go so well.

I have to be contented writing longer  fiction and five sentence fiction.

Creative writing is not as easy as one would think. I do try to express myself as best as I can, success however is not showing up in my writing.

Someday in the near future there might be people who would say, “You know Ranu you are doing okay.”

I’m waiting for that day to come sooner rather than later!

Daily Prompt: Toy Story

What was your favorite plaything as a child? Do you see any connection between your life now, and your favorite childhood toy?

Our family members did not have a special toy for each of us. Yes we had board games, there was snakes and ladders and Monopoly.

Monopoly was my favorite, most of us could play it and there were  all kinds of tactic we used to win the game. It was not easy. The winning depended on what numbers we got when we rolled the dice. We did learn to count money buy and sell houses. We had a very enjoyable time.

I learned the art of saving and counting money and also buying and selling houses by playing Monopoly. In real life I neither became a ‘Real Estate’ agent nor an Accountant.

I settled for teaching which in a way helped the experience I got in playing Monopoly,i.e how to do things in a calm manner.

Daily Prompt: Turn,Turn, Turn

Seasons change so quickly! Which one do you most look forward to? Which is your least favorite?

My most favorite season is summer, here in Newfoundland it does not get too hot, the weather is nice. I get to go out without warm clothes. I look forward to summer because it’s not that long.

My least favorite season is winter. The days are short and extremely cold, we have too much snow, clearing the snow from the driveway is a chore I avoid. Then untimely rain makes the roads and the driveways very slippery.

Some people remark, ‘It is so slippery we should go out in our skates.’

Those who are good in skating and enjoy it, it’s a fun time for them. I tried to learn skating but was unable to slide, and fell down countless times.

Winter is much longer and keeps me home 24/7. I do not enjoy winter.

365 Writing Prompts: Singin’ in the rain

Safe inside, toasty warm,while water pitter-patters on the roof…..  describe your perfect rainy afternoon.

It is morning where I live and the skies are cloudy,there is rain in the forecast and heavy rain the weatherman says.While sitting at my desk I’m trying to think, why are we having rain in the middle of June. A voice inside me says, ” do not complain Ranu, make the most of it, do something, enjoy it, or at least pretend you wanted rain on this day June 15th.”

I console myself, so what if Nature is a bit confused what we should have at  this time of the year, since it wants to give us rain,we might as well start singin’ in the rain.

I am inside, my room is nice and warm, I think I’ll do something enjoyable this afternoon.

When we the siblings were very young and had no idea of how the world works enjoyed anything different, the rain was something everyone welcomed after days of excessive heat.

Mom would hastily get the rice and lentils and cook a delicious meal. She knew she needed to cook something else to eat with the rice, so beef curry took all the votes. At meal time we’d wish for rain every day to have Mom’s delicious rice and lentils dish and my favorite the beef curry.

The above was how I remembered rain. Right now I’m thinking what can I cook to make it a memorable day. It will be rice and lentil mixture served with beef curry, yum yum!

Daily Prompt: 180 Degrees

Tell us about a time you did a 180 degrees —changed your views on something , reversed a decision, or acted in a way you ordinarily don’t .

I was watching a ice hockey game. My favorite team was not playing so well in that particular year. Rather than stick to my decision of going for my favorite I changed and rooted for the team I never liked.

I changed my mind because my favorites were playing a lousy game, what was worse they started to fight, which lengthened the game.

I disliked their tactics so I changed and went for the team, who were never my favorite .

Today is November thirteen,2014, it’s the third time time my favorite tennis player Roger will play against Andy Murray, Roger must win this one to get the semi-final spot. I know he plays well, but sometimes his mind is not focused on the game but his four kids, it’s normal, but I want him to play well.

I’m telling his racket to help him play well. It should try to keep the maestro awake even if it is for an hour,’ come on racket do your job,’I’ll say.’

The racket if it understands my command may say,’it’s not all up to me dear fan, Roger must do his job too.’

As I’m thinking all this in my mind I’m worried whether the racket realizes how much is at stake, I have to remind him,’the number one rank at the end of the year, you weird one, sorry I don’t mean to make you angry.’

I’m praying ,’please God let Roger win, he’s my favorite player!”

I am not sure how weird is my choice of liking beef and salmon. I cook them separately but I take them on my plate at the same time. My favorite  carbohydrate is rice, both salmon and beef stew is delicious with rice. I eat a slice of salmon with rice then I switch and the next morsel is beef and rice. I’ve been told it’s weird to eat fish and beef alternately for a meal. However  my taste bud does not  disapprove.

I groan when I see watermelons yes water melons I don’t like them, I never got used to them even though I’ve seen everyone in my family relish this fruit.

I do not dislike too many foods but watermelon is not my favorite and never will be.

Running around like crazy
