DP Daily Prompt: Verbal Ticks

Is there a word or a phrase you use or(overuse) all the time, and are seemingly unable to get rid of? If not, what’s the one that drives you crazy when others use it?

If everyone could instantly find their fault, we’d have this world full of faultless people, we hardly think we make mistakes, it’s also my problem, I am unable to write what phrases or words I overuse. However I do remember a friend of ours always used the phrase, ‘Do You Understand Me?”

He’d spend ten minutes telling my husband about something, then suddenly in his loudest voice would say, “Do You Understand Me Ali.”

My husband would look at him calmly and reply, ‘yes Dr. Gad I understand you.’

It was so annoying, I’d always tell my husband to let him know it sounds awful when he repeats this phrase so frequently, it also makes the listener doubt himself, as if he was stupid.

Most of us have this habit, I know I do too, but cannot remember what phrase or word I overuse at this moment!

DP Daily Prompt: The Glass Post by Ranu

Is the glass half empty or half full? The pessimist would pick half empty, while the optimist would choose half full. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Is the glass half -full  or half-empty: I’ve heard this expression countless times. I have read so many different idioms,which immediately brings a picture in my mind,what is it trying to tell me.This one however is slightly tricky.Here I instantly think of two individuals asking each other the question ,is it half- full or half-empty. Each one is trying to find  out where  they fit in this category.

I would like to say I’m an optimist, so to me it is half-full.I don’t go into the detail,why it is half-full. Is it because the city shut-off the water supply,only half of the glass could be filled or someone came and drank half of it.There are so many different ways of looking at it. To a pessimist it is half-empty, therefore he or she sees it as a premonition,they would believe something terrible is about to happen.

My Mom was always an optimist and she taught us to see things positively.She frequently told me it’s God’s will, whatever He does is for our benefit. We should not complain. He is taking a test,He wants to know our belief in Him. There were occasions when I only wanted half a glass of water,to me I view it as, I shouldn’t waste it if I only need part of it to quench my thirst.

My other relatives probably will question why the glass is not full. There are all kinds of examples of half-full and half-empty. What amuses me, it’s the same glass with the  same quantity of water. A critic,an optimist and a pessimist will look at this same glass of water differently.This is the beauty of a human mind we all view things differently.

DP Daily Prompt: The Social Work Posted by Ranu

I am not that much involved in social work.The times that I take part is when a family member,a friend or my colleagues want me to participate.It can be organizing a religious event , e.g. we have yearly events such as ,”Eid ul Fitr” after a month long fasting. We organize by deciding what sort of food we can take,and the organizers assign certain food to be cooked by the volunteers. This is one kind of social activity where I participate in. Also there are birthdays and other social events where we gather,take a present for the person whose birthday it is.

Another totally different thing I take part in is,I have joined the on-line course,where we study about an important person.It is a weekly course we are given an excerpt via email.We read it and answer the question given to us.In this we discuss comments written by the participants and interact with each other this way.

The third thing I spend a lot of time is blogging. I have done some translations of Tagore’s poetry. Other bloggers who like it, write their comment and I give my reply.I like this one I get to interact with my friends frequently.
