You’re at the beach with some friends and/or family, enjoying the sun, nibbling on some water melon. All of a sudden within seconds, the weather shifts, and hail starts descending from the sky. Write a post about what happens next.

This prompt reminds me of a day in London ,England . The sun was shining brightly I decided to go for a walk, as soon as I came out of my room , Tanya Yakimoff who lived next door, came out with a broad smile she said, “Where do you think you are going?”

I smiled and said, “I’m going for a walk Tanya.”

“Is that so,” she said ,”Perhaps you have no idea of London weather, if I were you I’d carry an umbrella.”

“Carry an umbrella on a bright sunny day, I hate to carry it?”

“Don’t say I did not warn you.” With these words she went back to her room.

I was torn, should I carry an umbrella, but it’s such a nice day, I hope Tanya is wrong I mumbled and went on my way out. I went to Russel Square tube station, bought my ticket to go to Oxford Street.

I got off and immediately thought of doing some window shopping. I went inside Selfridges, got on the escalator going up, checked out  the floors, what was on sale. Instantly I recalled I had come to window shop not to buy anything, besides it wasn’t as if I had a pocket full of money.

After taking about two full hours in the department store, I checked my watch, it was time for me to head back to the residence. I came down  on the lift with all kinds of people.

When the door to the lift opened , I was on the ground floor, I walked fast to get out of the station. To my dismay the outside looked dark, “Is it evening already?” I thought.

Oh no, I exclaimed ! I did not bring my umbrella, it’s raining heavily. I waited for what seemed eternity for the rain to stop.

Eventually the rain stopped, I could see a rainbow, I felt hey now there’ll be no problem, I’ll get to my residence without getting wet. I walked out, to get to Oxford Street Station, it was not too far, I’ll make it I thought, but nature wanted me to get wet on that day, within minutes the skies went dark and rain started falling, I couldn’t go anywhere for shelter, I kept walking.

Finally I was at the station, bought my ticket to go back. Within ten minutes I reached my destination, Russel Square station. I came out but the rain did not stop. I was soaked head to foot before I reached my residence.

I quietly walked up the stairs, hoping Tanya wasn’t there, before I could turn my key into the lock, out came Tanya, “So did you enjoy your walk?” She said.

All I could say was,”I better go in and change my clothes or I’ll catch a cold!”

As I was getting into my room, I heard  Tanya burst into a roaring laughter. 🙂

Daily Prompts: Pride and Joy

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

What’s your most prized possession?

Material possessions I probably have more than enough.Whenever something catches my fancy, I tend to buy it if it is affordable. I cannot consider any of these things as my prized possession.

I think of friends, family, acquaintances, they are nice to have but I’m not sure they are my prized possession.

My most prized possession is good health. If I didn’t have good health, family, friends or acquaintances will shy away from me. I do not blame them.

Human nature is complex it’s not easy to interact with someone who is ill. Yes we all have compassion but when we witness it for a considerable length of time. The compassion turns to boredom, we start distancing ourselves with someone who is not well.

A healthy body and mind is the most prized possession for me, everything else is secondary!

Writing 201, Poetry, Day :7

Day: Seven

Today’s theme: Neighborhood

Today’s form: Ballad

Today’s device: Assonance

My street is open and is wide,

My house is in the corner.

But the driveway is  so  narrow,

You’d have to park your car on the side!

It doesn’t bother me at all,

For I have friends on both sides,

They often call me and inquire,

If I need anything from the  mall!

At first I did not like this house,

It was not what I wanted,

My husband convinced me,

It’s the one that God has granted!

Now that I’m living here,

I must admit, my friends are:

Those most encouraging folks,

Whose  love I cannot find elsewhere!

365 Writing Prompts: Goals

When you started your blog, did you set any goals? Have you achieved them? Have they changed at all?

I had no clue what blogging meant, I read one of my friend’s post , decided at once I want to join too. At that time I was learning what blogging was about. On the advice of a friend I did some translations. It was the first time I attempted such a task.

The comments from friends from the online course encouraged me . I continued to translate and wrote a few stories, and posts about different places in India, Pakistan and Australia. I still did not have a goal in my mind.

I decided to participate writing the prompts provided by WordPress, I enjoyed writing. I noticed my writing was more fluid as the days went by.

Lately I’m thinking of writing some short stories without prompts, I’m slightly confident of myself. This will be my goal, my success depends on my motivation. I have not achieved my goal yet. Nothing is changed right now.

365 writing Prompts: Helping hand

Tell us about the most surprising helping hand you’ve ever received.

Some prompts have a way of pulling together everything I’ve stored in my memory bank. Today’s prompt is asking me to think of all the good Samaritans I’ve met in my life’s journey.

One fine morning I looked out my  window and was disturbed to see the driveway, the patio, the steps leading to the patio were covered with thick snow.

It seemed mother nature had a great time covering the trees, its branches and the yard with its soft fluffy snow.First thing that hit me was how on earth will I shovel all this snow. For a moment I was lost in my thoughts, wondering what can be the best way of clearing nature’s gift. I may have dozed off for a fraction of a second when I woke up to find a young girl looking at me, I was embarrassed and instantly said, “Did you say something?”

“Yes Miss”, she said, “Do you remember me?”

I stared at her, tried to remember where I’d seen her, nothing came to mind. I had a fake smile on my face which anyone with a bit of brain would know I couldn’t really  recall who she was.

She saved me from further embarrassment by saying, “I’m Heather, Miss you taught me in grade four, don’t you remember?”

“Oh yes I do, and how are you?” I said.

Without waiting any longer she asked, “Can I help clear your driveway?”

This was something I never expected to hear.I was delirious, all I could say was, “It will be so nice!”

Across the street her friends, who were students of the university, renting my neighbor’s house were waiting for Heather, came along. There were seven of them, within an hour and a half my driveway was cleared of the twenty five cm of snow that fell overnight. I felt a mere thank you to these wonderful girls is not enough.

I bought a Turkey from the supermarket, roasted it, and prepared a salad. For dessert I baked a cake. I called them and when they carried all the food to the house, I was relieved I could return the favor!

Drinks: plain water or coke and pepsi for those who prefer them.

Dessert : Pineapple upside down cake.

Beverage: tea  and coffee.

Dinner time : 6.30  pm.

After dinner the guest will be entertained with some videos of popular singers.

Each guest will receive a small gift of a variety of chocolates .

I wanted to write the recipes of the foods but it will take too much time, since I’m the only one who’ll have to write it.

365 Writing prompts: I want to know what love is

We each have many types of love relationships_ parents, children, spouses, friends. And they are not always with people; you may love an animal,or a place. Is there a single idea or definition that runs through all the varieties of “Love”?

It is true there are many varieties of love, such as: people, place, and animal. I’m not sure one definition will be enough for all of them.

When I think of love for parents, I feel it is not the same as love for the spouse, children or friends.

I know my parents would do anything for me to see me happy, whatever they do they do it unconditionally. They are never selfish, their whole world revolves around their children, they’d be devastated if anything bad happened to their children.

The children on the other hand will love their parents up to a certain point. When they feel that they are self-sufficient they’d either forget their parents or will have very little to do with them. This love I call “selfish love”, e.g A daughter sends an email to the mother which says ,”I only want to have a courteous relationship with you”. A parent will never dream of writing this to her child.

This  is a  comparison of love of the child and love of the parents.

Love for friends is different, if it’s your best friend you confide in him/her everything about your life, and hope it will be kept a secret.

With animals love is the reason we have them anyway, the animals on the other hand have no selfish motives like humans, their love for you is unconditional. Our love for an animal will always be the same, pure love.

Love for a place can change if you find some other place better or you can easily visit. I used to love a  place for a very long time, the distance, the difficulty of visiting it, is the reason I don’t think about it anymore.I do have a very fond memory of it.

Human beings are different , not everyone will treat their parents like the one I mentioned above, which happens to be a true example.

DP Daily Prompt: April 2nd

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

This morning I communicated with my blogger friends online. Although I’ve never seen or heard them I’m comfortable writing to them. There are so many options in English , the vocabulary helps, it is quite easy to communicate with friends using words.

I’m able to convey my feelings using words connected to feeling. In fact I’ve written a long email to my friend, who has no trouble understanding what I’m thinking . Sometimes icons are helpful to convey a message such as happy, unhappy.
