365 Writing Prompts: Planes, trains, and automobiles

You’re going on a cross-country trip, airplane, train, bus or car?( or something else entirely-bike? Hot-air balloon?)

I will write about our trip by car from Gander  to  Waterville Maine. We started from Gander in the morning on the trans-Canada highway. It took around ten hours to get to Port-Aux-Basques to catch the ferry. The ferry was due to arrive some time after 9 PM. We went to a local restaurant to have supper. After having our meal we drove to the dock to catch the ferry.

The ferry arrived on time, there was a set place for the cars to park inside the ferry. Since there were a lot of cars we had to wait our turn to get in. After parking the car we went to our cabin, it took about four and a half hours to reach North Sydney in Nova Scotia. It was very dark my husband followed the cars that were in the front.

When the sun rose we could see what was around us, we stopped at the McDonald’s restaurant to have breakfast. After eating we were on our way to Maine, we drove by some small communities until we reached St.Stephen, we spend the night there and early next morning we were on our way to Waterville Maine. When we reached the place after a few hours, we looked for the home of Mrs. Landlady(I’ve forgotten her name) . We did not have much trouble finding her home which my husband rented for two months, the landlady left the keys with her neighbor. My husband got the keys, we entered the house, it was small but a comfortable place.

We invited the landlady for dinner once, she loved our food and we loved her company. After two months we got our stuff packed and travelled back to “Our Home Sweet Home In Gander”!

DP Daily Prompts: Most precious thing(pet)I ever lost

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

I know when you lose a thing you can always somehow replace it.

I will write about the most precious pet I  ever lost and in my  mind she can never be replaced. Her name was Thursday,my daughter named her because she got her , one Thursday morning. She was a  tabby, she loved to eat, if there was leftovers Thursday was too glad to oblige. This habit made her overweight but she didn’t care, neither did we, let’s face it she wouldn’t compete in the “Beauty ” show . She was a tabby and loved everyone which includes us and her fellow cats.

One of my daughters was extremely allergic to cat hair, we moved her and JD to our home in Gander. JD loved our Gander home, Thursday did not. I am sure if she could talk she’d definitely complain. She had to adjust, but did she really I thought one day.

We were visiting St. John’s for a few days we brought the pets with us too. As soon as we arrived I noticed Thursday was very happy, she went up to the porch lay down and stretched herself, she recognized her favorite place and relaxed. JD came in, moved around, didn’t seem happy or sad.

Then we decided to sell our home in Gander and move to St John’s, Thursday was happy to be back in her home. We had a lot of fun with her. She knew what we do not allow, she never sat on the sofa but loved to be in the same room with us, so she was contented to lie on her bed on the carpet.

Whenever I lay down on the sofa, she’d jump and sit on my tummy, as far as she was concerned she was not breaking any rules. I thought how cute and clever she is.

A time came when Thursday like the other cats had her time on earth and it was time to say goodbye to us . We took her to the vet,but there was nothing they could do. My daughter went to bring her home, as soon as they were in the driveway, Thursday lifted herself up to make sure she was home, she then closed her eyes and was gone ):

DP Daily Prompt:I Have Confidence in Me

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Are you good at what you do? What would you like to be better at?

When I first came to Gander, Newfoundland. I was disappointed with the loaves of bread we bought. They were always moldy. I decided to bake bread myself. I never had to bake bread before, fresh bread was available in a lot of shops in Montreal.

It wasn’t the case in Gander. So I announced I will bake my own bread. My husband was doubtful, my friend told me it won’t work, when I asked  why she was discouraging me. Her reply was she had tried but failed the loaves of bread she baked turned out as hard as bricks. “Please do not try she said you’d be disappointed.”

I was given a cookbook “Better Homes and Gardens,” for Christmas by one of my husband’s friends.

I took out the book made a list of the ingredients and bought them  from the nearby Super market, my husband told me it was a waste of time. I ignored him I knew how can I say I cannot do it without trying.

The first six loaves of bread was not so soft, it tasted good. I knew it would get better when I bake bread regularly. After a few weeks my bead came out perfect. I stopped buying bread from the Super market. I was glad I did not listen to my friend or my husband.

I was confident once I started baking bread, it will be better than the bread we bought from the store,

DP Daily Prompt: Never Too Late

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Is there a person you should’ve thanked, but never had the chance? Is there someone who helped you along the way without even realizing it? Here’s your chance to express your belated gratitude.

There is a person who has helped me more than once, I did not have a chance to thank him. He is the Vice -Principal of the school where I taught.

I was living in Gander at the time, he came to our house one day when my husband was admitted in a hospital in St. John’s, he told me any time I needed help I must call him, he also said anytime I was not prepared to teach because of my husband’s ill health to call him and request him to get a substitute for that day or days.

In reply I said, ‘ but what if I’m not sick, how can I call you and  say to get a substitute for my class?’

He smiled and said, ‘Chaman, mentally you will not be able to carry on your job,if there is a sickness in the family.’

That day I was so relieved he understood  my problem. I was in a very stressful situation and was unable to thank him.

So this is from me i.e, Chaman, Mr. Melendy , thank you so much for your kind visit to my house, I’ll always remember your thoughtfulness!

Today’s writing prompt was write a post about how far we traveled from our home. I’ve already done this in July 2014. Instead of repeating the same post I’ve decided to write about dreams and the confusing dream I had recently.

Dreams mainly occur in the rapid eye movement(REM) stage of sleep– when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. Rem sleep is revealed  ,by continuous movements of the eyes during sleep.

People are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the Rem phase.

A few days ago I dreamed I had an interview for a job, I was thinking whether I should go to the interview, suddenly in my dream I made up my mind to go. It seemed to me it  was not too far from my home.

On my way I stopped at an unknown house and asked two little kids whom I had never known if they’d like to go with me   Strangely enough they agreed .Three of us were walking, without knowing where we were going, the kids were following me, they didn’t ask any questions.

In my mind I knew where it was and I was walking,  where I thought it was, was in Gander where I used to live.

We stopped and went into a house to ask for help, one of the men whom I never met offered to take us there in his wooden car. We got in as he was driving along I saw a building, I quickly exclaimed, “that’s Bait ul Mukarram, I know now which way we should go!”

Then in my dream I was thinking, it doesn’t make sense, ‘Bait-ul Mukarram’ is in Dhaka, Bangladesh, how can I be there, I live in Canada?

I was disoriented, I could not think anymore, I opened my eyes and found me in my bed, I was trying to think what the name of my street was.

Why I dreamed all this I have no idea, unless it was the effect of the flu’ shot I had a day ago.
