365 days: Name that…. you

My name is Chaman. It means a garden. My name was chosen by a good friend of my parents.

Although I don’t know why I was named Chaman. I can guess the reason. I was always a very happy child. I loved helping my mom with a variety of chores. Whenever mom needed something immediately, I was the one she called.

One day she was sewing something the thread broke, my mom yelled out, I ran to see who did what, to my utter dismay the thread of the needle broke, to continue her chore she wanted someone to thread the needle. I quickly solved her problem and ran out to play with my siblings.

My Dad came to me once, he wanted my assistance to do a simple chore, perhaps he could not trust anyone but me. He wanted me to open the latch of the door early in the morning.

Wow, I thought but Bari can do it. ‘No he brings me bad luck,’ Dad said.

How did Bari opening the door brings bad luck to my father. I didn’t ask the question, my facial expression gave away what I was thinking.

Dad knew I was confused. He explained to me, ‘Yesterday while pulling the door latch he made a noise, I woke up and saw Bari’s face, that day everything went wrong. I cannot have another day of bad luck.’

I think my name suits me. Because my name means garden, which is a very happy place. There are pretty flowers, many colourful butterflies are seen moving around showing off their fancy wings. The green grass and the tall Eucalyptus trees add to the beauty of the garden. Young children run around happily without fear.

I was a very happy person. the world has changed so much, no one looks happy anymore they are always afraid.

Nature is unhappy, to teach us a lesson, it gives us storms, earthquakes, diseases which is killing human beings, thousands are dying. There are people at the helm trying to convince humans this is fake, hoax. How can it be fake or hoax when we are watching every day millions are getting infected and thousands dying.

Unless we the people stop corruption, and try to admit the fact that climate change is real. Our way of life is polluting the planet. If we don’t change we will be wiped out like the dinosaurs.

Blogging 101 Day Six: Make an Irresistible “About” Page

Today’s assignment: create and publish your About page, then either adapt it into a widget on your home page or add it to your menu.

I used to wonder why I love ‘Nature’ so much until I thought of my given name “Chaman”, it means a garden. I dislike plucking the beautiful flowers around me, I know when I pulled them out from their habitation . I am killing them. They look awesome in their own habitat. Who am I to displace them, I certainly wouldn’t want someone to remove me away from my lovely abode.

I’m fond of all the colors nature presents us. I have a certain affinity with blue,in  my childhood any dress I wore had to be blue or else I would rebel if my mom tried some other color.

I was an okay student,my teachers were never worried about me but felt I’d be amazing if I could spare a few minutes of my playtime and concentrated on books. It never happened I went along on my own pace, I could not get the enthusiasm as my classmates did to be the top student in my class.

Things took a slight turn, when I became conscious I was in post graduate class, that my performance had to be better than okay. Destiny was alerting me it’s now or never as it does if one wants to change it. The lover of garden ,nature or what have you transformed into a lover of serious studies. I did not abandon nature but I spent less time strolling around to be Wordsworth. My time was limited, I could not ‘wander lonely as a cloud.’

My transformation awarded me scholarships which I was delighted to receive. I saw a part of the world which would not have been possible. I didn’t have the financial backing, my brothers helped me with my education, it would be selfish of me to ask for more support to go to England to study.

Here I am a plain human being who joined the blogging community to learn more about myself and the rest of the world!

Blogging 101,Day Two: Take Control of Your Title and Tagline

Today’s assignment: edit your title and your tagline.

My title: Garden

Tagline: A thing of beauty lasts forever

When I edited my title and named it Garden, there were two things that crossed my mind, one is my name means “Garden.” Secondly it’s the most appropriate title I could think of . My mother once remarked, a person’s name tends to influence his/ her personality.

I do believe a thing of beauty lasts forever, although the garden loses its splendor in the winter, esp. places where the snow covers everything with its white veil, the memory lives and awaits the change of season when the gardens will once again have the opportunity to come alive with flowers, butterflies and children. Nature will  show its beauty in the form of colors.

365 Writing Posts: Say your name

Write about your first name . Are you named after someone or something? Are there any stories or associations attached to it? If you had the choice, would you rename yourself?

My first name is Chaman, it means a garden in the Urdu language. The only story I know about my name is it was suggested by my father’s very dear friend.

No I’d never think of renaming myself.

A garden always suggests something beautiful.Whenever I think of a garden, I see the images of beautiful flowers. I know there are all kinds of gardens and they all depict something awesome.

Ghazal : Singer Munni Begum: ai ishq hamein itna toh bata anjam hamara kia hoga posted and translated by Ranu

Tell me this much love what will be my consequence

Oh fate tell me how much worse can the outcome be

The foolish buds in the garden opened their lips to laugh

They are asking the dew, tell us what will be our destiny

There is no boat nor there is a  seacoast

I have no desire for a seashore

It is obvious those who are asking

What my fate will be!

365 Writing Prompts: History of Language

Write a piece of fiction describing the incident that gave rise to the phrase, “third time’s the charm.”

Monica had a beautiful garden, she had flowers, apples, strawberries growing in her garden, but she could not grow raspberries.

Monica thought may be the soil was not good enough, she changed it, no luck, she asked her friend, but did not get a satisfactory answer.

She was not ready to give up just yet she changed the spot and did everything to get raspberries growing in her garden, it did not help, she was ready to give up trying .

She decided one more time, this time she got in touch with a horticulturist, she explained what her problem was, he understood the problem she was going through, his reply was, “Did you try to change the seeds?”

Suddenly Monica realized she hadn’t done that, she got fresh seeds from the nursery, within a short time she saw signs of raspberries.

Well she thought , “third time’s the  charm.”

DP Daily Prompt: The Transporter

Tell us about a sensation,a taste, a smell, a piece of music– that transports you back to childhood.

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

There is a song, the lyrics are written by Tagore, it is in Bengali, which is my mother tongue.Every time I hear it, I recall the day I heard it, how much I loved it and felt I could listen to this forever.

Here is the song, I copied it from Youtube:

In this song Tagore talks about his passing, he says everything will be the same, only his footsteps will be missing, the boats will be there buying and selling will go on like before, he reminds his readers  and fans to stop thinking about him and calling him.

There will be signs of his absence, such as  his musical instrument will be full of dust, his house will have thorny creepers growing around it. His garden will be covered with weeds and thick grass. Moss and lichen will surround the pond, reminding everyone that their favorite poet is no longer there.

Then he assures us he won’t be gone forever, he’d be back with a new name, will have new friends and will be back on the playground having a great time.

This song transports me back to my childhood.

365 Writing Prompts: Non sequitur

Write a post about anything you’d like , but be sure to include this sentence somewhere in the final paragraph.”He tried to hit me with a forklift.”

My grandparents had a beautiful house in the village, my grandpa  loved gardening,  we visited the village to see the house, grandpa and grandma had passed away before we went there, but our uncle and aunt lived there.

I and my siblings decided we’d explore the part where my grandparents lived, we noticed a garden, we went in and were amazed to find so many different fruit trees we’d never seen, we tasted them and loved the taste.

In the evening we went inside I asked mom to tell us the names of the fruits, As she was telling the names I wrote them on a piece of paper. I wanted to show my friends how many different fruits we ate when we were visiting our grandpa’s village.

Next morning we went on the dirt road to see what else was there for us to explore, on our way we met a crusty old man on a forklift truck, he yelled at us and told us to move away from his path, we were having fun we made all kinds of faces at him,  he got off his truck , said something loud which I did not understand  we still  refused to get out of his way, he was furious and  “he tried to hit me with a forklift.”

five sentence fiction

Lillie McFerrin Writes

It was a bright July morning the flowers in the garden were a pretty sight, the children were playing in the garden, suddenly they heard a loud scream, they went inside the house.

They found their mother crying and the older brother telling the father,”Dad please don’t go.”

The father looked at him,he tried to say something, but couldn’t.

Then it was all over, everyone was quiet, they only heard the mother reading ‘The Holy Book.’

It was the darkest day in their life!

365 Writing Prompts: Name that…you

Do you know the meaning of your name, and why your parents chose it? Do you think it suits you ? What about your children’s names?

My name is “CHAMAN,” it means a garden. When I think of a garden it gives me a feeling of complete joy. There are flowers, birds, insects, trees and oh so many more things.

The environment of the garden is peaceful, joyous, children playing ‘hide and seek,’ Mom resting and watching her pride and joy having a wonderful time.

My parents chose my name  immediately after I was born, I guess they consulted their friends and thought the name they chose was appropriate for the way I looked as a baby.

Garden reminds me of happiness, having a good time, pretty and so on. I was a happy child, I loved playing with my siblings and friends. I am happy and I love playing, this  means the name suits me.
