Daily Prompts: Move to Tears

Describe the last time you were moved to tears by something beautiful.

I  was moved  to tears,by the  the children I taught. They unconditionally supported me, prejudice was a word never found in their dictionary. They knew they never saw someone like me.

I wore a sari, I had black hair and I spoke another language besides English. My  long black hair,  fascinated them. They’d come to my desk not for help but to know if my hair was real. On several occasions they touched my hair and let their classmates know it felt  real.

It was my first year teaching in that school, there were only two weeks left for Christmas, the kids got busy buying gifts for me. I wasn’t aware that the kids give Christmas presents to their teacher.

Recess time I went to the staff room to spend a few minutes away from my classroom. When the bell rang announcing recess was over, I went back to my classroom, there on my desk were neatly packaged gifts. I went to the staff room to ask one of the teachers,if I was allowed to accept the gifts. “You must” she said, “or else you’d break their heart.”

I went back to my classroom found the kids very quiet, I instantly said, “Thank you children, it is so nice of you to bring gifts for me.”

One of them stood up and asked, “Do you like our gifts, I went with my mom to pick yours?”

The sweetness of his tender voice made me emotional, I was moved to tears. I looked at him and could only say, “so nice of you Jamie, I love all your gifts!”

365 Writing Prompts: Bittersweet Memories

You receive a gift that is bittersweet and makes you nostalgic. What is it?

To me gifts are special,I received gifts from a variety of people. The ones I cherished most are those given to me by the kids I taught.

I found boys were quite thoughtful, one of the gifts I received was a bracelet from one of my students. I remember he brought it to my desk and waited to see my reaction. “It’s beautiful”, I said, “thank you.”

Kids are very thoughtful they have their own way of finding out their teacher’s likes and dislikes.Once I was asked by one of the boys, “What’s your favorite hockey team?”

I replied, “My favorite team is the Boston Bruins” he was a bit disappointed.

“But Miss they are not a Canadian team”, he said!

I told him, “it does not matter, most of the players are Canadian on that team.”

I guess he was relieved to hear my answer. One day he walked over to my desk and gave me a pin of the  Boston Bruin goalie. I was impressed.

All I could say was, “Thank you”,it seemed he didn’t hold a grudge against me for liking the ‘The Boston Bruin Hockey Team.”

DP Daily Prompt: Secret Admirers

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

You return home to discover a huge flower bouquet waiting for you , no card attached. Who is it from__ and why did they send it to you?

The bouquet of flowers I received was in my classroom, placed neatly on my desk. It was from a group of students, who thought I was the nicest teacher they’ve ever met.

It was something they did to show their appreciation. I truly enjoyed teaching them and they enjoyed having me as their teacher.

The students left a number of gifts from time to time, sometimes it was a box of chocolate, a cup and saucer, or even a seashell . The shell one of them left for me was a large one, if I put it close to my ears I could hear the sound of the sea. Unfortunately I forgot to take it home, and found it missing the next day. I still think about it.

It was a joy teaching those sweet kids, they always wanted me to read stories to them.

Their gifts always meant they were happy to have me as a teacher. I miss them!

365 Writing Prompts: Everything Changes

Walking down the street, you encounter a folded piece of paper on the sidewalk. You pick it up and read it and immediately, your life has changed. Describe this experience.

It was a summer morning, the weatherman predicted another hot and humid day, I was trying to think if I should go for a walk while it was cool or wait till late evening, my neighbor raised her hand from the other side of the street to see her.

I was about to cross the street when the wind blew a folded piece of paper on my feet, irritated I picked it up and noticed there was a message inside. I was torn, do I read what’s inside or dump it in the trash can? Knowing I’d always wonder what was inside I unfolded it and started reading it.

Wow I exclaimed I am invited to attend a party hosted by my favorite tennis player, Roger Federer , I was advised to pick up a package along with instructions from the nearby sports store.

I yelled out to my neighbor Gail, ” I’ll catch up with you later, I have to take care of something.”

I took the bus to the sports store and asked the salesman for the package waiting for me. The salesman was a very agreeable man, he handed me the package and stated, “have an enjoyable trip.”

I was stunned , “enjoyable trip” I mumbled , where am I going?

“You’ll see,” he said, he then  turned around to take care of a customer waiting for him.

Meanwhile I headed home, I must open this when I get home, I told myself.  Upon arriving home  I found Raphael and Gabriel  were  waiting for me, they were hungry and wanted food ASAP. I gave them their food and came to my bedroom. I was anxious to open the package. I slowly opened it and found tickets to fly to Zurich, next morning.

I packed my bag and left instructions for my neighbor to take care of the kittens while I was away with my house keys in her mailbox.

Early morning I boarded the flight to Toronto , from where I was to change to another flight to Zurich. I arrived at Zurich early afternoon. The flight attendant told me I would be received by Mr. and Mrs. Federer at the airport.

When the door of the aircraft opened, the flight attendant addressed me she asked me to go to the airport lounge and wait. I didn’t have to wait too long, I noticed some people were coming towards me, when they came closer I saw Mr. And Mrs. Federer with their children.

One of their daughters handed me a huge chocolate bar it was a gift to me from the kids. I was overwhelmed with the attention I got. There was more they invited me to accompany them to their home.

Their home was something that looked like one from the fairy tale. I was exhausted Mrs. Federer showed me the room where I’d take rest for a few hours.

Next day Federer had a tennis match against Stan Wawrinka another Swiss player. I was delighted I’d be able to watch both in action. The result was as I hoped, Federer won, we all wanted to celebrate his victory. Mirka Federer’s wife took us to a posh restaurant where we had a lavish dinner. The children were well-behaved they did not have any temper tantrums, Mrs. Federer I assumed trained them well for this day.

The week went fast they took me to all the important places in the city. I had a marvelous time. The week went faster than I wanted it too.

It was time for me to leave, they gave me a lot of gifts and also some cute toys for our kittens.

When I landed back in my city, I found my neighbor waiting for me. She wanted to know about my unbelievable trip!
