Yeah Write # 146 “A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned”

A penny saved is a penny earned sounds like a good thing to do. But sometime it can be costly if it interferes with our health.

My classmate and I decided to visit a college friend of ours. Our intention was to hire a rickshaw to get there. It was a hot afternoon, the sun was  bright  and hot. There was no breeze. Our budget was about one hundred pennies anymore, would be too much for us.

We walked a few yards to get a rickshaw. It was  getting hard to find one. We almost walked half the distance. We saw one and stopped him. We asked how much the fare was to get to our destination. The man looked at us,he knew it was  very hot that day,he thought he could ask any amount and we’d accept, when he quoted his price we didn’t accept. We told him how much we’d like to pay ,he wouldn’t budge and went away. We had no choice we continued walking . We stopped a second one, he asked even more when we already walked three-fourth of the distance.

We declined and decided to keep walking.  We were almost close to her house, I said to my classmate, “We are  near her house, she must not know we walked all this distance.”

“Let’s hire a rickshaw now, it would be cheaper.” she said.

There were a lot of them parked where we were. They were looking for passengers.I asked what the fare would be, he asked for twenty-cents. We were delighted and happily rode the rickshaw and reached our friend’s  house. I knew we couldn’t tell her we walked most of the way, not only she wouldn’t let us forget this incidence, she’d tell all our friends how cheap we were.

Did we really save pennies we thought we would?  I doubt we did.  We had severe backache and sunburn. The lesson we learned was we must never try to save money at the cost of our health.

Writing Prompt: Sliced Bread 27-sliced bread/

There are many things actually the best since sliced bread. If we take into account the ones that are best for health.

I’d like to mention  health benefits, since much is written about what tastes good and what is good for health.  To me bagels can easily replace  sliced bread as far as taste goes. Neither is healthy, because both affects blood sugar. If we want to be healthy,we’d have to strike both of them off the list.

What can we eat which is tasty and does not raise our blood sugar. According to research oatmeal is a good substitute, I’m not sure if it satisfies our palate. I eat porridge daily,I’m used to it, I’ve stopped thinking about taste. I sure am glad it does not raise my blood sugar.

Therefore what do I think is actually best since sliced bread?  Keeping in mind especially about my health, which is more important,I think I’d go for bread, bagel or anything that is made with oatmeal.

DP Daily Prompt : Placebo Effect post by Ranu

If possible I want to think of something to calm a person. I’d like to invent by careful thought and observation, what can work for someone who leads a very stressful life.

Our environment has altered immensely. No one has time to think of anyone but themselves. A selfish society like ours  requires a selfless person who is more than happy to spend a few minutes to relieve a fellow human overcome stress.

Stress is the cause of a lot of ailment from heart problem to high blood pressure and so on. In my mind if a person can calm down and not worry about everything we’d have a healthier world.

It is said pets such as cats and dogs can help to cure stress to a large degree. By playing with them and looking after them helps to calm down.

And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter and the sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. (Photo credit: The hills are alive (Away))

Seven Wonders, people will not understand each other’s language unless it is reduced to seven words by Khalil Gibran.

My seven words are:

2. Freedom: Every one has a right to freedom.

3. Health:  If we take care of ourselves,we will be healthy.

DP Daily Prompt: Take Care Post by Ranu

When I am unwell,I stay quiet and hope it will get better,I do not need to tell anyone I am unwell. This is usually what I have done in the past and still do.

There was a time I was unable to ignore when I really felt sick. I didn’t know what to do. My situation got from bad to worse as time went on. So I alerted my house physician i.e my husband,I told him something was wrong with me,I cannot tell what. My husband gave a casual look and said,” there’s nothing wrong with you,you are putting on too much weight”, when I looked in the mirror, I noticed my puffy eyes and my face looking extraordinarily fat. I went along my business, doing my normal work, going to work, taking care of the kids, cooking, cleaning. I wasn’t  feeling  any better as days went by.

I made a last ditch effort to convince my husband,I was really sick. I told him, I felt exceptionally tired, my legs felt wobbly when I walked, and I was short of breath ,when I walked to school. My school was only five minutes away from my home.

I think suddenly the light of concern was visible in my husband’s face. He said,”I cannot delay it I’ll make an appointment with the internal medicine doctor.” Luckily I got the appointment immediately. The doctor asked me to tell him,how I am feeling. I told him everything,I knew I needed help and I cannot omit anything. He looked at me and said,” A patient in your condition cannot get out of bed and you go to school to teach.I will take you off for six weeks.”

I thought six weeks, those poor kids, who will take care of them.He told me it was not the time to worry about the kids. The Principal can get a substitute. “You have to get better”.  I was off for six weeks and was given medication to take care of my health. This was the time when I seriously needed help.

The clock of life is wound but once,

And no man has the power

To tell just when the hands will stop

At late or early hour.

To lose one’s wealth is sad indeed,

To lose one’s health is more,

To lose one’s soul is such a loss

That no man can restore.

The present only is our own,

So Live,Love,toil with a will

Place no faith in”Tomorrow”

For the clock may then be still.
