Writing 101, Day, four: Seconds

“Life moves very fast , It rushes from Heaven to Hell in a matter of seconds.”  ___ Paulo Coelho

The seconds in the clock is flashing by,

My life’s work is not complete I sigh.

Who will help me I wonder?

The moving hand makes me ponder!

……………………………………………

Get your work done as soon as you can,

My mind tells me, “I am your fan,

Your life’s clock is turned but once,

When will it stop? in seconds or in  this instance?”

………………………………………..

None of us know when the life’s clock will stop,

It is better we complete our work till we drop.

It’s a pessimistic way of looking at things,

Can’t we pause for the seconds  hand to ring?

…………………………………………..

Our  nature really is very strange,

We  don’t care  if we act a bit  deranged.

Until the seconds clock strikes at our door,

Announcing, “it’s your  turn  now , you  have  no time anymore!”

…………………………………………….

My  thoughts   go back to childhood days,

“Was I good , I wonder,” no, my mind proclaims?

“It’s too late now,” the seconds hand warns,

“For the Angel of death is here,” it mourns  !

Part four of the book: On Eating and Drinking

Then an old man said, Speak to us of Eating and Drinking.

And he said:

Would that you could live on the fragrance of the earth, and like an air plant be sustained by light.

But since you must kill to eat, and rob the newly born of it’s mother’s milk to quench your thirst, let it then be an act of worship,

And let your board stand an altar on which the pure and the innocent of forest and plain are sacrificed for that which is purer and still more innocent in man.

When you kill a beast, say to him in your heart:

“By the same power that slays you,I too am slain;and I too shall be consumed.

For the law that delivered you into my hand shall deliver me into a mightier hand.

Your blood and my blood is naught but the sap that feeds the tree in heaven.”

And when you crush an apple with your teeth, say to it in your heart:”your seeds shall live in my body,

And the buds of your tomorrow shall blossom in my heart,

And your fragrance shall be my breath,

And together we shall rejoice through all seasons.”

And in the autumn when you gather the grapes of your vineyard for the winepress, say in your heart:

“I too am a vineyard, and my fruit shall be gathered for the winepress,

And like new wine I shall be kept in eternal vessels.”

And in winter, when you draw the wine, let there be in your heart a song  for each cup;

And let there be in the song a remembrance for the autumn days, and for the vineyard, and for the winepress.

This is all for today, it will be continued tomorrow!

365 Writing Prompts: I’d like to thank my cats

You are receiving an award—either one that already exists or a new one created just for you. What would the award be, why are you being honored, and what would you say in your acceptance speech?

The prompt : I’d like to thank my cats sounds appropriate to me. When we moved to  St. John’s , we were greeted by three cats: JD, Alex and Thursday. Alex wasn’t quite sure about us, so she kept her distance, the other two were friendly and soon we became fond of them.

When it came to feeding and cleaning their litter I volunteered to do the job. The cats showed their appreciation by giving their famous rub, I wasn’t too eager to get this kind of affection, because it meant their fur would stick to my clothes.

I was told this was a sign they love me, I wasn’t too crazy about this love but had to accept it, because they didn’t understand my language and I did not understand theirs.

My husband thought I do so much for the cats every day, he was convinced I’d go to heaven, if what he said is true then folks  the award I’d receive is waiting for me in heaven. I think I’ll hold onto my acceptance speech until I arrive in heaven!

DP Daily Prompt: The best Day Ever

English: Mall Road, Rawalpindi.

I’d enjoy if somehow I magically land in Rawalpindi. My parents and all my siblings will be there. My wish is to go back to one of those days. It will truly make me happy. I’d feel God has decided I deserve to be happy. He has brought me back to a day, when things were very different from what it is now.

One day is all I want to enjoy, to be happy, to be thankful, to have  freedom to play after I was finished my school work. Breathe in the aroma of my mother’s delicious food.  My parents, siblings and I would sit around the dinner table, eat and talk about the fabulous day.

It would be winter. We wouldn’t have snow to shovel. The color of the  sky would be blue like the ocean and the seas. Birds would be flying above us. The trees, plants and flowers would be gorgeous green and a mixture of the colors of the rainbow.

It would make me feel as if I’m given an opportunity to be in heaven for one whole day. “Wouldn’t it be lovely!”

Super power,I’d like to choose is : The ability to speak and understand any language. It is my lifelong dream. It’d be awesome if suddenly I become someone who can speak and understand any language.

I’d enjoy so many things I’d travel anywhere in the world without worrying about understanding or speaking the native tongue. To have the power to speak and understand any native tongue,is plus for anyone. Think about it you visit a place like “Timbukto” start speaking like one of them, not only you’d feel proud of yourself, the inhabitants will greet you with open arms.No one would dare conspire against you because you’d know what they are saying. Their food habit will not be unknown to you,you will enjoy everything dished out to you. Come to think of it you might feel closer to heaven, the power of language is so important.

Then there is our neighbor Quebec they won’t give you an evil eye because of a language barrier. Bon jour, bon soir, merci ,je parle francais, will be at the tip of your tongue. The locals will be more than glad to entertain you. You’d feel you are at the top of the world.

People don’t really believe you can speak any language ,they’ll transport you to Lahore to see how you can cope, you look around and find a Lahori, to get his/her attention , you say,” itthey kon rahenda hai”?(who lives here?) wide eyed people look at you tongue tied, you make yourself comfortable, the inhabitants are taking you for a spy, you doze off for a minute and find yourself in Dhaka, while you’re trying to figure out where you are, someone taps your shoulder and says,”ki moshai apni kotha theke aashchhen”?(Mr. where are you coming from?”)

Being tossed around from one place to another,is beginning to make you grouchy, you are thinking I must say something, you give a disgusting look and say,” Kotha theke abaar amar barhi theke aashchi moshai.” (I am coming from home mister).

By now you’ve had enough of the tongues and the places, now you’d like to be back in your house and saying to yourself,”I am not sure I like all the experiment I went through,I am glad to be “HOME”!
