365 Writing Prompts:Cheering section

Do you have a mentor? Tell us about him or her? Are you mentor to someone else? Tell us what that relationship has added to your life.

I do not have a mentor, I really didn’t have one when I was in school. I always felt I was able to take care of everything myself, it worked out all right for me.

I was a mentor to someone at one time, she and her husband had jobs for a while, then lost the jobs because job situation was getting worse at that time.

She asked me once what could she do to get a job, I knew she had a masters degree in Mathematics, I advised her to register for an education degree, she agreed and did as I told her. Her friends discouraged her, they informed her, they didn’t think she’d get a job in any school even if she had an education degree.

They were wrong she was hired in a private school when she completed her degree  and was happy, she used to tell me about her job. I encouraged her not to give up because the salary was low.

I have no contact with her now, I am glad she listened and was doing well. She always thanked me for encouraging her.

DP Daily Prompt: Head Turners

We often hear strange snippets of conversation as we walk through public spaces.When was the last time  you overheard so interesting, ridiculous, or disturbing, you really wanted to know what it was all about?

My brother Misbah, was traveling to Comilla from Chittagong, he overheard a passenger telling his friend there was a job opening in one of the Tea Estates.

He told my brother Rafique  about the job opening,  Rafique was looking for a job, he sent an application to the Tea Board. After a few days he received a letter from the boss of the company to come for an interview.

Rafique was delighted, he left Comilla to go to Chittagong for the interview. He met the boss of the company, who received him cordially, after asking him some questions, he was told they will send him a letter if he was selected.

After waiting for a couple of weeks my brother received a letter from the company boss that he was hired for the job!

DP Daily Prompt:Third from the Top “Blogs I follow” post by Ranu

Personally I can hardly wait to start going through them. My friend gave me a variety of things  I can write about.As I was going through  them,it became harder to pick one out of the list. I narrowed it down to five.I liked all five of them.It was crunch time,I had to settle for one and forget the rest. In my mind I wondered, do I have to tell why I picked that particular one to write about?I know it’s the easiest I don’t have to think too hard,it is all about me.

After completing my degrees,I took a job to teach in my town.It was a brand new school,there were only three teachers,myself and two others.We were sailing along beautifully,I had taught for eleven months,I was in no hurry to change jobs. We had a few day’s holiday.During this time I went to see my friend from school in Dhaka. She told me I should leave my job and look for one in Dhaka.I could not warm up to the idea,simply because I did not have a place to live in Dhaka.You might be thinking,I can rent an apartment.This is where all the problem lies a young unmarried woman living alone in an apartment.Are you kidding me,the city is unsafe for a woman. Mini came up with the idea of applying for work in Residential Model School. It sounded reasonable but there was no Ad in the papers about a vacancy in that school. How can I apply,when they are not looking for a teacher. Mini’s next move was,’Do not worry,my sister-in-law is a teacher there, I’ll ask her to arrange an interview with the principal.’ It was all settled,I went to see the man,he was a Major. He was warm and friendly. Among other things his main fear was, what if she gets married immediately after she is hired.He took care of it by telling me, I cannot marry from five to seven years.

I took the job,I did not give him any assurance that I will not get married within the specific time mentioned by him. It is so difficult to know any one in only an hour. I wrote my resignation letter after ten days.I could not bear to see a principal humiliating the teachers in front of the students. My mind was made up,this atmosphere is not my cup of tea.Hence,’Chaman leave this place before it gets any worse.’ But then again I remembered the saying,’Man proposes,God disposes.’ I stayed in that institution for two more years and five days until I got Divine help.
