Daily Prompt: Desire

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Desire

At this moment I have a craving to go outside and feel the fresh air.  Nature tells me, ‘Sorry ma’am this request cannot be fulfilled. As there is a warning for gale force wind, and I do not think it’s wise to be outdoors, you may not enjoy me taking  you off your feet and delivering you  on the city Dump.’

I ask Nature, ‘Can I expect a calm day, I mean  a windless day tomorrow?’

‘March is a month of strong wind, this desire I’m afraid cannot be granted,’ said cruel nature.

‘What about April, can I hope for better days?’

‘No matter what your Politicians tell you, ‘Global Warming’ is a reality.  Put all your wants, desires, expectations, fancies,  hopes, needs, wishes in a box blow them with all your might and watch where they land. At this point I cannot promise you anything, SORRY!’ Nature answers.

Daily Prompt: HOPE, Tagore song, singer-Hemant Kumar, translated by Ranu

pod-2016-sm.png (308×60)

One-word prompt for today is :Hope

We all love the word ‘HOPE’, it is so wonderful to think about it and believe as long as we hope we will be successful in life.

Tagore was a very optimistic poet, he believed in ‘Hope,’ he wrote songs about it, here is one of his songs I have translated. In Bengali, hope means ‘Asha,’ it is always used for a female. I’ve never met any male who was named, ‘Hope.’

Tagore has written many songs and poems titled, ‘Mother.’ It doesn’t always mean his own mother, sometimes he means his country, earth or even God.

The following is the translation of this song:

I have come with a lot of hope, dear mother, please don’t turn me away.

No one wants a destitute, I know you will give me shelter.

I do not want anything else, I only want to sit beside your feet.

I do not want anything I only want to call you, my ‘Mother.’

If you do not give me shelter where will I roam around crying?

There in the distance I see terrible dense cloud this night.

Oh Mom I hope you will save me from the perilous storm.

Six Little Short Stories

1. Once all villagers decided to pray for rain, on the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella.

That’s Faith

2. When you throw a baby in the air, she laughs because she knows you will catch her.

That’s Trust

3. Every night we go to bed, without any assurance of being alive the next morning, but still we set the alarms to wake up.

That’s Hope

4. We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.

That’s Confidence

5. We see the world suffering, but still we get married and have children.

That’s Love

6. On an old man’s shirt was written a sentence ‘I am not 80 years old’…I am sweet 16 with 64 years of experience.

That’s Attitude

Have a happy day , live your life like the six stories. 🙂

Song: Bengali song : singers Bashir and Anjuman Ara; Posted and translated by ranu

This is a song sung by a  female singer I used to know. She is a Bengali. She had a very sweet and amiable disposition which is rare among those who reach the heights of fame.I’m translating this song to celebrate the memory of a person who was loved by those of us who knew her.

The sky has heaps of blue

The air has some scent

the night is lighted by the glow- worm

the stream has a soft rhythm

Only my hands are empty

but  my eyes are full of tears

My lonely heart has closed the doors of hope

I cannot understand what’s wrong with  me

Why can’t I overcome my bashfulness

I’ve tried to tell many times but could not

I fail to understand how will I say it

How long can I aimlessly drift in this thought

I know not why I have this conflict!

Song , Singers Talat and Rafi posted and translated by Ranu

In the dark nights of sorrow (Rafi sings this part)

Do not lose courage

Brighter  days will surely come

Wait for the opportune moment.

…………

I am suffering from pain all my life( Talat)

There is no remedy for it

I do not have the courage

To deceive myself.

………

Do not be suspicious   (Rafi)

Believe in yourself

Brighter days will definitely  come

Wait for the opportune moment

In the dark nights of sorrow.

…………

I am always suffering(Talat)

What did I ever get from hope

I continuously took risk

What did I get for being honest.

………

Do not destroy the love in your heart

Keep the passion alive

Better days are yet to come

Wait for the opportune moment!

……………….

This did not console my heart(Talat)

I have gained nothing from this news

The night continues to be dark

I’m not hopeful of a brighter morning.

………………..

Harvesting in Spring will soon be here(Rafi)

After another autumn

Spring will take its place

Wait for this auspicious season!

DP Daily Prompt: Reason to Believe

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

In Reason to Believe ,Bruce Springsteen sings,”At the end of every hard-earned day, people find some reason to believe.” What’s your reason to believe?

My reason to believe is as long as I am honest, truthful, and I never hurt or cheat anyone. I will be awarded by God.I say this from experience.

My father passed away when I was twelve, I had no idea how my mother will be able to take care of twelve children. I had two brothers and a sister, who had almost finished their education.

There were nine of us left to complete our education.  My two older  brothers supported  us by contributing funds for our education.

I always wanted to study in England, I knew it can never happen, my brothers could not bear the expense because it was too expensive to go there to study.

I kept hoping maybe I’ll be fortunate and get a scholarship to study in England. I wasn’t really positive it can happen, hope is a wonderful word and I kept hoping the day will come. It did and I grabbed it.

Now I believe everyone should hope, you never know when God would look down from heaven and say, “this person’s hope needs to be fulfilled.”

It was surely me He  looked at and said those unbelievable words!

Fiction: Glimmer

Lillie McFerrin Writes

Gwen received a letter for an interview for the job she applied, months ago, she gave up thinking the position was probably filled.

She knew an interview does not mean she’s got the job but the possibility of getting it excited her.

The interview was scheduled for 1 pm on Thursday, it was already Wednesday, she’d have to start reading some articles on the subject, she was about to find the articles on her bookshelf, when there was a sudden knock on the door, she reluctantly opened the door standing in front of her was Steve, the know it all, what does he want she thought, she a forced smile, she asked, “Hi Steve ,what’s up?”

“Gwen , you won’t believe what I got on the mail, an interview for that job we both applied for?”

The news came as a shock to Gwen, she started feeling sick, the glimmer of hope she had of getting the position disappeared when she saw Steve with the letter!

Tagore Song: na bujhe kare tumi bhashale ankhi jaule ,poste and translated by Ranu

Unknowingly,

whose tears did you shed?

My dear who is staring

at the deserted  street

With a painful heart

and lifelong unhappiness.

Whose eye language

did you not read

and were unable to grasp

the compassionate hope.

You failed to turn around

To see whose anxious

desire you crushed!

English: it is all about chaman.

English: it is all about chaman. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The one person who is not reading my blog I hope is my classmate Rina. She will criticize until the ,”Cows come home”. It’s not a good thing. The world unfortunately has a mixture of the good, the bad, and the ugly.Which category does she belong, you may wonder.Let me give you some examples: She is very negative e.g when someone says,’Chaman is a nice girl’, her sister is conceited will be her reply.I know the girls were talking about me. No one knows my sister and it isn’t about her. If I say so n’ so is pretty, she’d say but she limps when she walks. These were some of the instances that bothered me. I know she will not have anything good to say about my blog. This is the way she is. Since my blog is not restricted to a few,and internet is popular all over,I won’t be surprised if she gets the opportunity to read it.

A song by Tagore translation by Ranu

I came with a lot of hope.

Call me close to you,

do not send me away,

dear mother.

Call me close to you,

do not send me away,

dear mother.

I came with a lot of hope.

No one wants to be miserable,

I know you will call him.

I do not want anything else,

I just want to sit by you,

I do not want anything else,

I just want to call you mother.

If you don’t take me,

where will I find a home?

Where will I cry and wander about.

I see overcast clouds,yonder,

a dark night,

I came with a lot of hope.

Call me close to you,

do not send me away dear mother.
