Write five hundred words on any topic you like. Now remove 250 of them without changing the essence of your post.

“I’ve come to buy a sickle.”

“A nickel?” He gave  him one.

Run  along now I have work to do!”

Mom was upset  when she saw me  without the sickle. “Where’s the  money!”

I showed her  the nickel, “He  gave me this.”

Mom  ordered , “Come back with  the sickle.”

A sage walking by saw my tears and asked,  “why are you  crying?”

He laughed when he heard my story.

“Don’t laugh  I am in trouble.”

“Let’s go, I will teach the guy  for cheating.”

“What did you say?”

I did not understand  him.  He disliked my question and told me to walk . In my imagination I turned into a   Sasquatch, made plans to take revenge,I must kill him,  I grabbed the sage’s shirt and yelled, “I will kill you.”

The sage was surprised,  said something in his language ,   lifted me by  my neck and bellowed, ” Kill me huh, let’s see who kills whom!”

Wild thoughts occupied my mind, I was dead  vultures were tearing me to pieces,   the sage was on the  hill laughing .

My soul was in heaven,   Rumi,Iqbal and Waheed, were looking at me. I’m hungry I said.

Instantly two women appeared with delicious food. I was about to eat  it, suddenly I felt someone shaking me.

I opened my eyes,  the sage said . “Hi.”

“Let’s get the crook.” I yelled.

“All right then let’s go .”   The sage smiled!

365 Writing Prompts: Fantasy

The Tooth Fairy(or Easter Bunny or Santa Claus—) : a fun and harmless fiction, or a pointless justification for lying to children?

I think ,The Tooth Fairy, or Easter Bunny, or Santa Claus is a harmless fiction . These stories help children’s imagination. They are by nature imaginative, it is because their mothers always tell them make-believe stories, which they love.

I don’t think these stories are pointless justification for lying to children.

These stories motivate children to read, reading opens up new ideas and it gives an incentive to know what else is out there for them to know, curiosity builds personalities, those who are,  have gone on to invent airplane, which is the best invention for mankind.

Humans have extraordinary imagination, I believe the stories of The Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny and Santa Claus are the reason a child’s imagination was encouraged which made them better, writers, readers inventors and so on.

365 Writing Prompts: The full moon

When the full moon happens, you turn into a person who’s the opposite of who you normally are. Describe this new you.

There is something very unique about the full moon, whenever it happens and the sky is clear, I find myself in a place I’ve never been. I am lost in my thought and go into an imaginary place where it’s me, Tagore, Rumi, Mirza Ghalib and Iqbal. I carefully listen to their conversation.

Tagore and I are the only Bengalis , the rest of them speak Persian. I am fascinated to hear this language which I don’t understand.

Tagore realizes my shortcoming and helps me out. I begin to understand a few words, but cannot carry on a lengthy dialogue. I’m advised to go back to earth and work on my language skills especially in Persian, so I can participate in their discussion.

Back on earth I turn on my computer and Google the language Persian. I know I must be ready for the next full moon, I tell myself did I really see those people or it was all my imagination. Unfortunately it was just that and I didn’t have to count when I’ll meet them again.

They have left the earth and are now in a better place, without any kind of worries, and I am here with all the trials and tribulations of the world!

Writing Prompt: Fantasy

Tooth Fairy,Easter Bunny,or Santa Claus are all fairy tales. Children love fairy tales such as milkmaid and her pail, the chicken little story, there are a lot of these stories which mothers read to their babies to get them used to listening.

I have done so myself I always felt the little ones knew these are not true stories , but they loved to hear them, because something about them made them invent stories they themselves wanted to hear.

I remember my younger sister once told me about little babies she planted and they have blossomed into gorgeous infants. I was so thrilled I wanted to see them , but I wasn’t able to. Never did I tell her she was lying.

Fantasy is a very powerful work of imagination, it makes us imagine beautiful things and helps us to be creative when we grow up. I still love to read “Grimms Fairy tales”, it takes me where I’d  love to be even though I know it’s only a fantasy.

Make-believe stories are harmless, I don’t see anything wrong to tell stories to help children’s imagination, listening habit and interest. I would not say it is a pointless justification for lying to children. We do not tell these stories to make children better liars but to improve their imagination.

DP Daily Prompt: Imagine All the People Post by Ranu

UK - London: Heathrow Airport - Welcome to Britain

UK – London: Heathrow Airport – Welcome to Britain (Photo credit: wallyg)

My most favourite place to watch people is the ,’Heathrow Airport’ in London. Here people from all over the world gather. Some wait for connecting flights, others are coming home after a long vacation, then there are  tourists of all sorts. This is where I sit observe and imagine. Once I mistakenly arrived at the airport ten hours before my flight. Instead of going back to my brother’s place I opted to stay. While there I watched the passengers running to catch their flight. I however was in no hurry.

There is a restaurant at the airport named, ‘EAT’, I bought a sandwich and found a comfortable place to sit for , ‘people watching’. I noticed a young girl possibly in her twenties, sitting quietly. Immediately my mind went to work. Who is this girl, does she have any sibling, why is she traveling alone? Maybe she is waiting for her family or a guide who will take her to her destination.

Suddenly I felt she looked unhappy, she doesn’t want to study, her parents are forcing her to continue her studies. No, there is something else, maybe her uncle has invited her to visit them. She likes the uncle but hates his bossy kids who treat her badly. Can this be a cause of her unhappy face?

No like me she is at the airport too early and hates the thought of waiting, hence the sour face.  I then saw a young man coming towards her, they looked at each other, the girl was all smiles she was talking a mile a minute. I was glad to see she was laughing and talking. I soon realized while I was busy with my imagination,I heard an announcement that my flight was leaving in twenty minutes. I picked up my bags and ran to board the flight.

Can you imagine what would happen if I missed my flight? It would be in the news , ‘A lady misses her flight after getting to the airport ten hours before her flight’. Shocking isn’t it?

DP Daily Prompt: The Full Moon Post by Ranu

‘The Full Moon and Me’

I do not change regardless of what kind of moon presents itself. I can make this into a fairy tale. Right now my imagination is taking a break, because of all the times I have taken to use it. Take for example my time in Montreal,I put it through the ringer trying to investigate, what I must do see eat buy . It has co-operated with me for every selfish demands of mine. Now it’s time for it to say,” You know what, slow down dear or I will forever boycott you”, can you fathom how much trouble I am in? Please excuse me this time!

“Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gon na get” Forrest Gump.A title from the movie

I am thinking I picked the coolest title to write about.Did I just admit that? Now wait a minute,Ranu ,why do you think that? Is your imagination perked up, nothing is automatic in life? Yes technologically we are way ahead with machines, they all seem to have that feature called,”Automatic”.I am sad to admit my brain does not fall in that category.

I was always advised not to talk or write shop, but this is my only hope.I have spent countless moments teaching, surely I can find  something befitting for this title.

It was the month of September,a new school year, like my colleagues I was waiting to see the kids that were assigned for me to teach. Soon enough I hear the vice principal’s announcement, ‘You are in Mrs. Asgar’s class’ these words were followed by a line of thirty kids marching into my classroom.I watched them as they walked past me.Like a box of chocolates, they were assorted, boys, girls, happy, sad, indifferent ,they were in different sizes and shapes. My job was to teach them and not worry about their size. There was one thing that caught my eye,the indifferent girl. This meant either it was my impression or she really didn’t look excited about school. Could it be, I did not look like the other teachers, I was from Bangladesh, wearing a sari, which she did not see before, then again my pronunciation may be a problem. I thought about all these things in a matter of seconds.

I took out the register and called each ones name.Nearly all of them acknowledged their presence, except miss indifferent. I always knew,if there is a problem,’you nip the evil in the bud.’ I tried to put my brain in auto mode, but nothing was happening,if it was a machine all I had to do was click to ‘On’ position and the machine would do the rest. My brain refused to co-operate. A week went by and I couldn’t find an easy solution. I did what I thought was the best way of dealing with the situation.I told the principal about my concern. He looked at me and smiled,(I was thinking is he smiling because it’s too early to be confronted with this kind of problem?) I don’t know what he thought but I am faced with a kid who might become a problem for me. His suggestion was to make an appointment With her parents. I saw the parents a week later,,without losing a second I told them what was on my mind. Her mother smiled and told me, she expected a call when her child first started school, five years ago, since no one called she thought her daughter was doing fine. For her it wasn’t something she didn’t expect, but why it took so long. It seems she did not like school, since she was five years old.She could not enjoy the summer months, after summer she will have to go to school, thinking about it made her feel unhappy.this was the case every year. I didn’t have to feel it was my dress or anything else,it was the word school that gave her the feeling of nausea. With the help of her parents,I was able to change her ill-feeling of school. After this I saw ,’Miss Indifferent’ with a beautiful smile on her face every morning, always ready to do her school-work.

My box of chocolate had a tiny one that gave me a bitter taste in my mouth, but became sweeter as the days and months went by. “Mama dear I agree life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get”, I lucked out mine had one bitter chocolate, but I was able to fix it before it became too late!
