Daily Prompt : Panacea

In response to daily prompt : Panacea

Freedom to buy guns is not the panacea for safe living,

Owning guns gives an individual power of killing.

Whether the killer did it because he suddenly lost control,

Cannot be an excuse to let anyone kill an innocent soul!

Daily Prompt : Lollipop

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt: Lollipop

I very seldom tasted lollipop as a child, my Dad discouraged us, to him it had no nutritional value. I think he knew his kids like others in the neighborhood, would suck it and leave it on the grass or any kind of bench, lick it and leave it again.

He did not like seeing something sweet and sticky, left for the flies to sit on  and could visualize one of his kids go back and forth to lick some more of that disgusting candy on a small stick.

I’d say kids are different from adults, they are carefree they do things without thinking, like leaving a licked candy on a bench or floor and go back for the taste of the smeared candy with dust or whatever  without thinking . This is why I believe kids are innocent, their lives are simple, they see their surrounding as innocent.

If you tell a kid,   ‘throw away this candy, it’s not good for you.’

They’ll immediately question your judgment,  to him or her, it’s all right, we are strange adults who have no idea what we’re talking about.

But we adults try to keep our kids safe, sometimes it backfires, because they do things behind our back. This is when their innocence takes a hit.

DP Daily Prompt: too Big To Fail

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Tell us about something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail( and tell us why you haven’t tried it yet).

I seriously would attempt to write a book of all my experiences I encountered in my life. I haven’t written it yet, I cannot try it without the guaranty I will not fail.

Some of my well-wishers want me to write about my experience as a teacher, there are some interesting anecdotes I’d be able to share.

It might bring out a smile for some who probably experienced it as well.

The schools I have attended , the things I liked and others I did not, it’s the way life is you do not like everything that happens to you.

My interaction with children, who I thought are the sweetest and most innocent human beings on the planet. I’m willing to bet if they were at the helm of our beloved planet, they would make it the best place on earth.

When they love they are sincere, they do not know how to pretend, some are influenced by adults who unknowingly say or do things just to impress the adults they come into contact with.

When I was six  there were two sisters who were our  neighbors their religion was different from  mine . To impress their older cousin they pointed out to her in a very awkward way this is what one of them said in Bengali: “Ora na mucholman”( they are Muslims). her way of saying showed she does not like  us. How do I know because the proper word in Bengali is, Musalman, not Mucholman, this was her way to scoff at us. Neither she nor I understood at that age why she did that.

Sometimes certain events are  deep-rooted  in our mind this was one of them. We adults do great harm to children by teaching them to discriminate.

I need reassurance that I will not fail, this is the only reason I have not tried to write a book!

DP Daily Prompt: Litmus,Litmus on the Wall

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

If you had to come up with one question the answer to which would determine whether or not you could be friends with a person you’ve just met, what would it be? What would the right answer be?

My question is: Is it safe to make friends with someone I’ve just Met?

In my mind the right answer to my question is: In this world of ours there are a variety of personalities,  there is no doubt, ” human being is essentially good and peaceful.”, it’s a quote by a famous philosopher. In my mind I know at birth a child is an innocent soul, he is as fresh and pure as a daisy.

When this same human grows up he comes into contact with a variety of people, some are good some are evil, sometimes this little soul can be tempted to do things that are evil, this is one side he hasn’t learned, his parents has taught him what is good and he should always be truthful, honest and trustworthy.

When he meets someone who teaches him the exact opposite, he will be tempted to try. If he’s lucky he’d decide on his own this is not the right path, but if his curiosity gets the better of him, he’d continue to do illegal things secretly, after a while it’ll be a habit and he won’t be able to turn it around.

Good and evil seems to go side by side, this feeling will make me want to know the person first, before I  try to be friendly.

Writing Prompt: Morphing

Language evolves. The meaning of a word can shift over time as we use it differently–think of “Cool”,”heavy”,or even ” literally”.Today give a word an evolutionary push: give a common word a new meaning, explain it to us ,and use it in the title of your post.

Morphing the word:  “Color” or British spelling, “Colour”

Let me use the word color as the word, I’d like to give   a push. I know you will say but we know that one already, I’ve tried to think of other words, but they’re not any different, they are morphed into shreds, so my thought is to see if I can really do something with it.

Sally and Sangita were two best friends. They met each other in kindergarten, one day Sally’s mom visited their school, apparently Sally forgot to take her lunch for school, her mom was worried she took her daughter’s lunch on her way to work. She parked her car in the parking lot, and went in to her daughters classroom, she noticed her daughter was busy doing her work, sitting beside her kid was Sangita. She raised her hand to get Sally’s attention who was busy showing something to her friend. Sangita noticed this lady didn’t know who she was but could see she was trying to get Sally’s attention, she gave her friend a gentle push and pointed to the lady waiting by the door. Sally was thrilled to see her mother, she asked her teacher’s permission to go and talk to her mother.

Mom looked a bit concerned,  “what is it she asked her Mom?”

Mom was lost in her thoughts, Sally repeated her question, her mom looked perturbed, without further delay she questioned her daughter,”who is that colored girl sitting next to you?”

“Colored she repeated, her name is Sangita , it’s not Colored, mom, Sangita is her name.”

“Why did you think her name is colored, it’s such a weird name tell me  mom she inquired.”

Mom was in serious trouble, how can she explain to her daughter why she called her Colored.

The following weeks were troublesome for the poor mom, she tried to tell her daughter a colorful story, the daughter wasn’t satisfied, this caused a lot of tension between the mom and daughter.

Mom had no choice but to explain, while she was making up another story her face turned purple, Sally noticed immediately, she exclaimed, “Mom your face is changed to a purple color, now I know why you called Sangita, Colored, perhaps her face was changing into all different colors and you thought her name is, Colored.”

Children are innocent by nature, it is we who confuse them by our behavior.

Writing Prompt:Cringe Worthy

Do you feel uncomfortable when you see someone else being embarrassed? What’s most likely to make you squirm?

My second year of teaching was absolutely horrible. The first day was enough to make me give up the wretched job immediately.

I remember we had assembled outdoors for some sort of activity, the Principal showed up and started being nasty to one of the teachers in the presence of the little kids. I was horrified, I watched the kids laughing. I made up my mind to quit right then and there. I thought if this guy is embarrassing this innocent teacher without thinking where he was, I’d be the last one to put up with this kind of behavior.

This attitude of the head of a school was enough to make me squirm.

Writing Prompt: Menagerie

Yes we have animals in our life. It means a lot to us. We have two kittens ,they are playful, they tell us when they are hungry. Sometimes when they do things,we do not approve, they look at us and it seems asking us, “yes we will get up on the mantel piece, what are you going to do about it.”

We have a great time with these innocent animals. I noticed they are still trying to figure me out, especially the Siamese kitten. the other one is quite used to me. He plays when he wants to, he likes his rest, he doesn’t want to move when it is his resting time.We love our kittens, the most important thing I see is, they love us unconditionally.

DP Daily Prompt: Mirror,Mirror

pad2014.png (388×120)

When I look in the mirror , I do feel like a person on the inside.  I am honest. I do not pretend to be anything I’m not.

I know appearances are often deceptive. I’ve seen pictures of people who look innocent but you find out they are serial killers.  But there are others whose face tells the story. From years of deceiving and cheating people their face shows the evil person.

I always think of the saying, “do not judge a book by its cover.” While that is true partially, the opposite can be true also. It is not really helpful either way. Some faces look deceptively innocent and others do not. Only thing I’d say is to know about the person by how he/she behaves at work,in public places or when in the company of friends. They may do certain things that are suspicious.

For the sake of our safety,we need to know more about a person before we decide whether we can trust them.

DP Weekly Writing Challenge Shorola AKA Corolla Cliff Hanger Part 3

Shorola woke up. She was disappointed. The nice man did not appear in her dream. She didn’t dream at all. What does it mean? She wondered.

She must take out the three pouches under the mattress. She’d find her answer from them. “Where are my pouches,I put them here, where did they go?” She cried.

“Mom ,mom I can’t find my things,I put them under my mattress, who took them, Mom you have to find them, she cried!”

Mom came running. “What is it my child, what are you looking for?

“My things, my things, you have to find them.”

“What are they, tell me.”

“I’m not allowed to tell,oh what will I do?”  She screamed ,she kicked her legs violently.

It was so loud the mothers with their children  rushed to her house. They all said in one breath, “What’s wrong, why are you crying so loud?”

” My things are gone, I can’t find them.”

“Okay ,tell us what the things are, I’m sure we can find them, one mother said.”

‘But’, she hardly said the first word when a huge ugly monster appeared from nowhere.

“Let me guess it said, you’re not allowed to tell.”

“Who are you,how do you know?” She was trembling.

The size of the creature could make anyone shake.

“Now my little friend it said. I knew you’d mess it up. So I made the things disappear.”

“Why, who are you, I wanted to be happy, you ruined my chances, you are evil, I want you to go away.”

“Really are you sure you want your nice man to leave?” It said.

” You’re not a nice man. You’re hairy and scary.” She cried.

“So it’s final you want me to go ,you like your nickname Corolla, are you bitter,do you want the children to make fun of you?”

“How do you know all this Shorolla screamed, were you listening to our conversation?”

“I’ll tell you one more time I’m your nice man. I told you I’ll visit you once more. Did you forget?”

“How can I believe you, You look different. You don’t even look like a human.”

The neighbors were finding it interesting. They stayed around to see what will happen next.

“All right folks he said , close your eyes for a moment.”

They heard the house shake for a minute, then all was quiet.

There he was the “Nice Man” with his long beard, just the man Shorolla saw before!

She was overwhelmed. She couldn’t cry or laugh but froze. Her Mom shook her, she was so exhausted she couldn’t move but fell right where she stood.

What happened the next hour she didn’t know. When she woke up she found everyone busy. There were all sorts of food, beverage on the table. All eyes were fixed on her. She tried to get up but they told her to rest for a few more minutes.

When she got up, her mother invited everyone to share the food  and drinks. The kids were friendly and promised never to call her Corolla.

Shorola  lived up to her name. She transformed into an innocent girl whom everyone loved!!

DP Weekly writing challenge: Cliffhanger Shorola AKA Bitter Melon

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/weekly-writing-challenge-cliffhanger/

Her name was Shorola( innocent). It was difficult to fit her personality with her name. She did everything her own way. It cannot be counted innocent.

When she went outdoors, the kids in the neighborhood would sing, “Shorola you are a Corolla”(bitter melon).

She didn’t like the name bitter melon. It would infuriate her so much she’d start cursing.  It didn’t help,  Things were getting worse for  Shorola. She complained to her mother, it didn’t do her any good. Her mother said, “now my dear you’ve got to change your attitude, smile when you see them, play with them, be friendly, it’s not that hard”.

One day she came out of the house with a bag full of candies she thought ,  “kids like them,I’ll give them some, I’d ask them if they’d play with me.”

The kids noticed Shorola had a whole bunch of candies, they hovered around her, she asked, “Want some?”  They were surprised to see her so friendly.

One of them asked, “will you really give us some.”

“Oh yes she said, take as many as you want.”

Tom, the bully snatched the bag from her and took off. Shorola was livid she was going to teach him a lesson. She started kicking everything around her. The kids started running away and  sang , “Shorola you’re a Corolla!”

I’m not a bitter melon she  cried.

To be continued!
