Fiction: Abandon

Lillie McFerrin Writes

Abandon

Lucy and her friend Tracy went for a walk one afternoon,on their way they saw a building, which seemed empty, they quietly walked over to see what was inside.

When they stepped in front of the door, they heard someone saying,”please can someone help me, I want to go home?”

Lucy instantly made a move to go in, Tracy held her back, she said, “No Lucy this might be a trap, let us go back!”

At first Lucy was reluctant to listen to her friend, Tracy related the story of her cousin who went for a walk and disappeared this news unnerved her and she decided against going in.

The two friends decided to go to the shopping mall, Tracy wanted to buy a few things, in the mall they met Melanie, who  came running to tell them something, she was breathless the words Tracy,  Lucy was barely audible, She told them  about some building where the police had gone to investigate after pedestrians nearby alerted them about someone crying for help, no one lives in the building, the parents all over the town are cautioning their children not to go near it, Tracy and Lucy looked at each other and realized it sounds like the same place, they breathed a sigh of relief for not going in!

What was the last picture you took? tell us the story behind it ( No story behind the photo? Make one up , or choose the last picture you took that had one.)

I took the photograph of our Siamese- Himalayan breed kittens a few days ago. They are from the same litter and they get along very well.

That particular day both were having their catnap, they looked so cute hugging each other, I had to get my camera to take a picture, it had to be done quick they do not stay in one position for too long, maybe about five minutes.

They have a marvelous sense of hearing, a minute ago I thought I heard one of them I wasn’t sure, sure enough the other one jumped out of bed and has gone to investigate why his brother is meowing.

I was happy to be in a girls college. No one there to tease me or make fun of me. We can look for a perfect world, sadly that doesn’t exist. I tell myself,’What’s wrong now,you got what you wanted’? Yes I did. but this is just a different problem. One of the girls who happens to be from my home town ,made life impossible for me. She always said something negative,if I said anything.I was fed up with her.She happened to be my mother’s distant relative, which didn’t help.

This college was run by American nuns. They were very strict, one of the teachers Sr. Joseph Mary, would come up to our dormitories, to make sure our beds were made, also we weren’t allowed to sit on the bed.We were provided with small stools made of wicker, which is called ,’Mora’ in Bengali. Bedtime had to be strictly observed, lights were out at 10.30 pm. It was not a problem for me, I always went to bed at 10.00 pm.

Our principal was Sr. Augustine Marie, she wanted us to study every waking moment or else she would call a meeting and take us to task. In the evening we all had to assemble in the library and study. One evening we heard a noise, before I could think what it was, all the girls ran out of the library,I was not far behind. We left our sandals and ran bare feet, screaming, sister, sister, there were thirty-three of us, you can imagine the noise we made.Sister Augustine Marie went straight to the library to investigate. She found nothing ,but our sandals scattered in the library. The face she made when she came out was priceless! Despite our fear, we would have burst out laughing. But this was the principal we dare not make fun of her or she would send us packing!

More later!
