DP Daily Prompt: Connect the Dots

Open your nearest book to page 82. Take the third full sentence on the page, and work it into a post somehow.

He smiles.

I entered my living room to look for a book, suddenly I felt there was someone else, besides me, I turned around, at first I could not recognize him, he called my name, I looked up straight at him and asked, ” what brings you here?”

My unfriendly question took him by surprise. He smiles. ” Wow you’ve changed he said, do you always welcome your guests this way?”

It was my time to reply, “not really I said, you always show up when you want something, I’m afraid today is a bad day I’m in no mood to give you anything, please leave.”

He stood up I could see clearly he was disappointed, I was in a sour mood and was hardly in a giving mood, he quietly left without saying another word.

It was a few years ago my brother Waseem wrote a book, he sent the draft to one of his friends, I knew nothing about it, I was angry, he did not trust me enough to let me know about his book.

His friend liked what he wrote, he published it in his name, my brother found out about it but took no action against his friend.

This was the first time I saw my brother, I was still annoyed with him  for being so stupid, he trusted anyone and everyone but could not trust his own sister,somehow he thought if it’s a friend, he is trustworthy.

I could not believe he’d come after all these years to see me, after he left I got ready to go out to run some errands, on my way out I saw something in the mailbox, it was an envelope I picked it up, came inside to see who left this piece of mail for me.

It was a note from my brother, he apologized for not trusting me, this time he said, “I’ve written another book I  want you to read the draft and let  me know what you think.”

Those words made me so happy, I instantly forgave him and invited him to come to the house for dinner!

DP Daily Prompt: Pace Oddity

If you could slow down an action that usually zooms by, or speed up an event that normally drags on , which would you choose, and why?

I don’t mind going to parties hosted by friends every now and then, what is irritating about the ones I’m invited to seems to drag on.

Most people in my group of friends have no respect for time, if they are invited for a 6 pm dinner they show up at eight or even later, the hosts wait for every last person to serve the meal, then there is the practice of serving the men and children first and the women after the said people are taken care of.

I went to one once the time given was 6 pm but the guests started arriving after eight, by the time everyone was in, it was after 9;30 pm. I felt the time was dragging on, the hostess kept the food in the oven to keep it warm.

When finally the dinner was served at close to 10 pm in groups, the last group i.e the women were served at almost eleven o clock.

I always respect the time given, I had to wait for close to five hours to be served, by then the food was not fresh, the salad was not fit to eat as it happened to be what was left over after the previous group finished their meal.

I like the food to be served at the time given and everyone i.e men women and children should be served at the same time!

DP Daily Prompts: Doppleganger Alert

You step into an acquaintance’s house for the first time, and discover that everything– from the future, to the books, to the art on the wall- is identical to your home.What happens next?

Katie,”do you live here?” I said.

“Yes, why do you ask, Melanie, is something wrong?”

There is something strange about your home, I replied.

Really, would you care to explain? answered Katie.

I left my house in the morning to run some errands, I ran into you, you invited me to visit your house, I accepted although I have a lot of work to do in the house. When I entered your house I thought I was in my house, but your house is in a different part of the city, why am I thinking I am in my house. Wait a minute I get it, everything in your house is the same as in mine, it’s so strange.

Melanie you’re not making sense, what do you mean by, “everything’s the same as in my house?”

Yes Katie, my books, the art on the wall, are the same as mine, it cannot be a coincidence can it?

Both looked at each other and made up their mind to check it out, Melanie took Katie to her house, they were barely at the front door,there was a strange sound coming from inside the house. Melanie knew her husband had gone to work early and was not expected to be back yet.

Who is in her house she was alarmed, she unlocked the door and found a note, “tread softly dear ladies the ghoul is resting, I’d advise you to leave or face the consequences.”

Melanie was perturbed, was her husband back and decided to scare her, no she thought, they did not discuss anything about “Halloween” who could it be, while Melanie was deep in thought, Katie who was spooked out, left without telling Melanie anything.

Standing alone with the note, Melanie tip toed towards the kitchen, there was a nasty smell, she walked on there was someone large and scary  cooking something, she could only see the back of this creature, when it turned around, Melanie fainted and fell on the floor.

The ghoul was her husband playing a joke on her, when she opened her eyes she saw her husband bending over her and was saying,”I’m so sorry,Melanie, I didn’t know you’re such a coward.”

Where are my books and art on the wall,please tell me she said?

DP Daily Prompt: If I Ruled the World

You’ve been given the super power to change one law of nature. How do you use it?

I am given the super power to change one law of nature, how will I use it. Not everyday we get this kind of power. So I do have to invest sometime to see what’s the best way of using it. As I was thinking I tripped up on Hobbe’s natural laws, he was a man full of ideas,I thought it would be a good idea to borrow two of his law of nature and see which one suits me better.

I have super power I must use it wisely or the media bums will turn blue criticizing me, I don’t think they’ll dare,seeing that I am in possession of this unbelievable super power. I hear someone whispering, “Stop the rant and get on with business.” I have dual personality you know and my second personality is the whisperer. 

I lost my train of thought what was I saying, “you were talking about Hobbe’s laws of nature.” This prompt was from my second one.

Okay first one on my list is: Everyman ought to endeavour peace,as far as he has hope of obtaining it, and when he cannot obtain it, that he may seek and use all helps and advantages of war.

The second one from Hobbe’s list is : No man by deed or word, countenance or gesture declare hatred or contempt of another. The breach of which law is commonly called contumely.

So I’m fine with the law called “CONTUMELY”. Enforcing this law I feel is easier than the first one on my list. I’ll make a country wide proclamation,from this day forward hatred from one another is prohibited by law. Anyone found guilty will be deprived of consuming food for a week, however they are allowed to drink water. I wouldn’t want them to die of thirst.

Before the law is established the citizens will be provided with an intensive workshop to learn how to contain their anger, the children will  be trained by their parents or guardians.

After the first week attempts will be made to find out if the law is working. If the feedback is positive the citizens will be invited  to all the town squares of the country, where they’ll be given treats for their positive behavior.

Writing Prompt: Buffalo Nickel

2006 was a weird year for me. I was invited to go to a wedding of a friend’s daughter. I waited till the last minute hoping I could make some excuse. I did not succeed, I had to travel all the way from Newfoundland to Alberta. The time difference between the provinces is four hours. I started early in the morning and reached Calgary at 10 p.m., I was exhausted . The airline did not provide any food. It was horrible.

I checked into a posh hotel selected by one of my daughters, her theory was why worry, mom is paying. The wedding was okay, there was  only one person I knew,it was the bride’s mother. She was busy receiving guests. I was busy staring at all these strangers whom I never saw  before or will ever see, once I was home.

The nickel I picked was minted in 2006.

Birthday Party

To Valerie:  You are invited to celebrate  Mila’s birthday on June 12th,2013. I have invited Debbie and her two daughters, Jennifer and Danielle. Also invited are Mila’s friends from school. All of them are coming. In all there will be twenty guests.Please let me know at your earliest,if the date is suitable for you. The party will be in my house.

The menu for the party is as follows:  Chicken Biriyani; Seekh Kebab; Potato Chops; Yoghurt Salad; I’ll also make Parathas;there will be mango pickle and coriander chutney.

For dessert I have ordered a chocolate cake. I am also planning to make,gulab jamun,rasgullah and rus malai.

For beverage it will be some cold drinks and tea and coffee.

I hope you will come. We will have a good time. For entertainment , some of our guests have volunteered to sing.
