Daily Prompt: Edge of the Frame

We often capture strangers in photos we take in public. Open your photo library, and stop at the first picture that features a person you don’t know. Now tell the story of that person.

I had the occasion of taking some pictures when I was in the ‘Farmer’s Market in Montreal’, I was waiting to pick up some fresh produce, I had to wait  until the lady in front of me could get her shopping done.

While waiting I took some pictures of the fruits and vegetables, I came home and discovered the lady who was standing in front of me is in the picture I took while I was waiting my turn.

I started thinking of her. Perhaps she is also visiting Montreal like me, perhaps she is buying fruits and vegetables for her Grand kids with whom she is spending some time in “La Belle Province”, I recall seeing her quite agitated she was asking for a vegetable her grand kids like, she couldn’t find it,  the vendor didn’t have any clue.

Frustrated she moved on to the next one, fortunately she found it, and bought a plastic bag full, I was amazed to know her grand kids like egg plant. She explained to her friend standing by her side how she cooks egg plant.

I told myself, “lady now that I have captured you in my picture I’ll always think of you and the egg plant!”

Writing Prompt: Stranger

Have you ever had a random encounter or fleeting moment with a stranger that stuck with you?

One year I had to go to Chicago to see my brother-in-law and his wife. They had a baby, my husband couldn’t go due to his back. He was in pain 24/7, so he thought we were obligated to see the little infant, since he was unable to go, I’d have to go. I won’t mention about the reception I got this is irrelevant here.

I boarded the plane with my two little ones in the wee hours of the morning. I had to carry their paraphernalia with me, to keep them under control. I reached Montreal safe and sound with my young family. At the airport runway for some reason we had to take a shuttle to go to the airport lounge. We were waiting to get the shuttle, in my mind I was thinking how was I going to carry the bags and hold on to my kids at the same time.

A lady behind called out and said, “I see you need help , let me take one of your kids to help you go on board.”

I was sure I was getting Divine help, I was so thankful to the lady, I couldn’t think of enough words to express how grateful I was.

We reached Chicago at 10 pm. my kids were fast asleep on the plane. When the plane landed and we were ready to get off, I heard another voice behind me, this time it was a gentleman, “Excuse me ma’am, your kids are sleeping, how will you carry them out,let me help you?”

Was this another voice from up above, I thought? I was delighted to take his offer of help, he carried my younger one and my older one woke up, I held her hand and carried the bags with me.

I thanked the gentleman and walked over to see my brother-in-law who came to pick me up. He had a very stupid question which I can’t help but write, “Who was this man?”

“A nice gentleman I said who offered to help me.”

to the check -in counter,I was stopped by a lady, she smiled and said ,’Hi’. I did not respond I kept walking, this time she stood in front of me and tried to talk to me.I told her,I was in a hurry. In reply she said it will only take a few minutes. Then she pulled out a book and asked my name.I asked why she needed my name. She said she was wondering if I wanted an American Express card .  She told me  the advantage of having one. I was firm ,I told her I had far too many cards and I did not want an additional card. I don’t know how long it took  me. She was one person whom I could not get rid of fast enough.
