Fiction: Entrance

Five Sentence Fiction – Entrance

This week’s word: ENTRANCE

Lillie McFerrin Writes

There she was driving speedily to reach her destination, unexpectedly she found herself staring at this winding road with mountains on both sides, why didn’t her father tell her about this entrance leading to where she didn’t know.

How long is this road, she wondered , she may not make it to her interview on time, it was important if she was interested to get registered to study law, she kept driving, finally she saw,  what looked like an unpaved road ,  what could she do, there was no choice but to go on, she checked her watch, she had an hour to reach the university gates, ten minutes had gone by,what she saw ahead of her completely mesmerized her.

About a dozen little girls  in colorful  dresses were carrying placards, which said ,”No thoroughfare”, how can it be, there must be a way to keep going, one little girl ran up to her and said,” I’m sorry miss but you  cannot go any further.”

Natalie felt sick, she won’t be able to make it on time, which means she’d have to reapply the following year, what a waste she murmurred, a man appeared from nowhere right in front of her, he said, “Nothings a waste dear I’ll take you come along with me, do not be afraid, I got word from your Dad to take you to your school, hop in you’ll be there in record time.”

Natalie was desperate, she boarded the three- wheeler, the vehicle made a roaring sound, before she knew what was happening she found herself in the ‘Entrance Hall’ the guide in front yelled , ‘No time to think Miss, this way please!”

365 Writing Prompt: Silver Screen

Take a quote from your favorite movie– there’s a title of your post. Now, write!

“I have often walked down the street before!”

“Sheila what are you doing here?”

She heard someone call her name, she turned around there was her friend Dorothy huffing and puffing to catch her breath.

Why it’s you Dorothy , I can ask you the same question?

Well Sheila this street reminds me of the good old days when I used to walk everyday to go to the university, they were such marvelous days. I remember Mr. Baird asked you the name of your school and you were so proud to tell him the name. Did you continue your studies, what are you doing now?

I had my teaching degree, I’m back teaching in a different school, this one is a day school, I can go home and do other things.

What happened to the other school, did you not like it?

I left that one, I had other duties besides teaching, it was a boarding school, they expected me to be present in the dining hall when the kids were eating. Frankly I felt it was a total waste of my time.

Dorothy what are you doing?I went to law school to study, I completed it,  now I’m practicing law.

That’s exciting, oh Dorothy I’m sorry I have to leave now, I promised my cousin I’ll go with her to watch a movie. It was great meeting you, all the best to you.Bye!

365 days Writing Prompt: You’ve got the power

You have the power to enact a single law. What would it be?

If I had the power, I’d make sure no one in the land is hungry. We all need food for sustenance, without it we are weak, we think of unimaginable things of how to get  food to satisfy our hunger, there have been stories of people eating human flesh to survive.

Hunger makes people steal, kill, it changes one’s personality, this is one thing that should be taken care of before we think of anything else.
