In 2010 John Isner and Nicolas Mahut played against each other in the Wimbledon Championships in the first round at court 18. It was the longest match in tennis history, both by time and the number of games the two opponents played.

John was the 23rd seed and Nicolas Mahut was the qualifier. The match began at 6:13 pm on Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 on court 18 at Wimbledon, England. The match had to be postponed due to fading light at 9:07 pm before the fifth set. The two warriors went home without knowing who would be lucky enough to win this Marathon Match.

They resumed the match on 2010, 23rd June which was the following day at 2:05 pm. The record for the longest match was broken at 5:45 pm. It had to be suspended again for the light faded at 9:05 pm.

The final set was tied at 59 games all.

The tennis match resumed for the third day at 3:40 pm on Thursday June 24th, 2010. It became a contest of fitness and determination. At 4:47 pm Isner won the match.

Both players broke several tennis records. Each served 100 aces. It was mentioned as , “the endless match.”

The final set was longer than the previous longest match.

I remember saying, ‘come on guys, end this match!’

Five sentence fiction: Diversions

Lillie McFerrin Writes

After the disappointing run at the Boston marathon, Patricia needed some kind of distraction to get over her failure to complete the marathon run.

She was disheartened by her friend Tracy, whose letter at the last minute destroyed her confidence.

Her mother suggested she could spend some time with her cousin Andrea, Andrea was an accomplished pianist ,  she volunteered to give Pat   piano lessons.

The two liked each others company, Pat was doing well  in the  lessons better  than anyone her cousin had taught, within a year Pat was playing the piano well enough to compete in the yearly music festival.

Pat registered in the competition, her cousin warned her not to expect too much,  “enjoy playing for the audience,” Andrea told her cousin, Pat learned from her earlier failure in the marathon  not to expect too much,  she entered  the competition without any expectation, the audience loved her performance, , the adjudicator was impressed with her showing, he placed her third, everything went well, Patricia  gave up running  and  concentrated on becoming an accomplished pianist  like her cousin!

365 Writing Prompts: Freaky Friday

You experience your own Freaky Friday, and switch bodies with someone you love/hate.Tell us what happens.

I always wondered how the marathon runners run the distance of twenty-six miles with such ease. I imagined  covering half that distance one  Friday. It was freaky after the first one kilometer, I felt my legs were not co-operating with me, I walked a yard, hopped half the distance and ran to complete the one kilometer. I came to the realization running is not for me, I may as well quit while I am ahead.

Then my mind thought of a plan, why don’t I switch my body with the marathon runner Susan. It was a Friday morning, there was a cool breeze blowing perfect to run the marathon I was attempting to accomplish in my body, but now that I have switched let me see how it feels with a different body.

I went to the starting line, there were a lot of runners each deep in thought and then there was me. We all lined up, I was feeling excited I thought I’m actually going to run this marathon I’ve been dreaming of.

As soon as the whistle was blown, I started running,at first I was slow, then I felt my body was getting lighter and I was able to run faster and faster, all the runners were behind me I had taken off, all I was thinking was I’m going to beat everyone in this race.

I’m not sure how much distance I covered, abruptly Susan’s body switched back to mine, I felt heavy, I couldn’t even walk. I felt the spectators  encouraging me to keep on going, it was no use, I was tired, discouraged, found myself a place where I sat down away from the crowd to gather my thoughts,I looked around, luckily I spotted a cab, raised my hand to get his attention, he slowed down, I got in and asked him to drive me home!
