Writing 101#3: One -Word inspiration

Prompts come in many different forms. Sometimes a single word is all you need to get your mind’s wheels turning. Here are six words:

Treasure

Regret

Home

Love

Uncertainty

Secret

Select one word in this list that speaks to you in some way.Have you always wanted to write about that wrong decision you made? Are you a long-term traveler looking for the right city to settle? Do you want to write about your relationship?

Regret is the word I feel speaks to me.

Although I think I’ve made right decisions in my life, my mind tells me I did not. Not working hard enough in primary and high school is one of the regrets, I have. I did not try to see what I could have accomplished if I were a little more careful in my studies earlier in life. I was happy getting passing grades without making any sincere efforts.

It is said,”Time and tide waits for no one” I heard it several times, I even loved repeating it. What I did not do is take a closer look and find out what message was  I getting from these few words.

I wanted to have a good education, I knew this was what  my parents wanted. I did accomplish this ambition. Still something tells me I should have listened to my uncle, who once told me, “Ranu you should study Philosophy.” I heard what he said but didn’t care enough to know what the subject was all about. I studied History instead, maybe I was good in remembering dates, which probably is  the reason why I opted to study   History.

Now when I look back I feel I did not make the right decision. When I read about Philosophers I find so much joy knowing, how they  entertained us with their knowledge and are continuing to do so despite the fact they are no longer among the living.

I have realized what I could have done when I was a student, the fact that I didn’t makes me unhappy sometimes.

I am happy  I got the opportunity to study about Iqbal  through online courses and Tagore, when I started blogging. Both were great philosophers in their time!

Dear participants and blogger friends, I’d love to get your feedback about my post. Thank you!

Daily Prompt: Your Number One

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

What was the # 1 song when you were born?(not sure? You can find out here)Write about how      the song relates( or not!) to your personality.

I checked UK’s @1 song: Swing the mood

#1 Rhythm Nation by Janet Jackson

And US # 1 song, cold hearted by Paula abdul

I’m sorry none of them relates to my personality.

I like songs that mean something, that are pleasant for my ears, where the song has melody, and the singer is serious about what he/ she is singing and there is a message.

Here is a song from sound of music which relates to my personality:

I hope you will enjoy this song. Best wishes to my friends. 🙂

Tagore song translated and posted by ranu

I will not call, I will not call,

I will not call this way from outside.

If I can I will let my

Heart send the message.

The pain of longing rings at the bottom of my heart,

I know not where to find the one.

Who will unite the giver and receiver?

Will our pain be similar?

Will the Ganges river

Mix  with the dark

waters of the Jumna?

Will my pain unite with the one?

A tune sounded

It  came on its  own

At the time of leaving

It promised to be back.

I will not call, I will not call

I will not call this way from outside.

If I can I will let my

Heart send the message!

Blogging 101, Day Twelve: Increase your commenting confidence

Today’s task : Read six posts written in response to Monday’s prompt, ‘Brilliant Disguise’. and leave comments on at least two of them.

I was able to read two posts on Monday’s prompt.I liked all of them. I wrote my comment for both . Each one had a message which I enjoyed reading.

In Marie Griffith’s post , she quoted Judy Garland’s Quote: Always be a first rate version of yourself, instead of a second rate version of someone else.

Another post I truly agree with is the post by Crazy Canadian Saver: Why it’s pointless to keep up with Joneses.

Yesterday was a busy day for me. I had an appointment at 10:45 AM . It was a very cold day the temperature was 9 degrees Celsius and it was raining.

When I got out of my house I did not realize that on the 21st July it felt like Autumn.  I thought what happened did I sleep through the summer, it’s the only thing I could think of.

One lady looked at me and said, “Yes my darling it is July and the temperature is what you see on the billboard. You did not sleep through the summer, but you forgot it is St. John’s Newfoundland, it is famous for rain, drizzle, and fog.”

I thanked the lady for her humor. I came home three hours later, exhausted, could not concentrate on the work before me. I had to take a nap in the afternoon. My whole day was ruined, this morning I made up mind to complete day twelve assignment.

Daily Prompt: Bad Signal

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Someone’s left you a voicemail message, but all you can make out are the words: “I’m sorry. I should’ve told you months ago.Bye.”  Who is it from, and what is this about?

Let me see a voice mail message: “I cannot understand the first few sentences, all I can hear is ” :

“I’m sorry,I should’ve told you months ago. Bye.”

Told me what months ago, I keep thinking, who promised to do what for me, I’m racking my brain, what did any one promise me, I just cannot make any sense out of this incomplete message. So I sat down thinking, one  after another I started scratching names of possible persons who could have called and left this useless message.

Suddenly I remembered it was Kavita who told me months ago she was coming to my city for a visit and would I mind if she stays with me, I had told her I’d love to see her. I have everything ready and now this message, some people if I may say so are ill-mannered, did their parents forget to teach them courtesy, I wonder. After I went through all the work she leaves me a measly unfinished message. Next time she says she wants to come to my place for a visit I’d just have to make my excuses.

May be there is something good coming out of this, at least I won’t have to cook or take her  out to see the city. Goodbye Kavita, nice knowing you!

Tagore Song posted and translated by ranu

I know you know

What is on my mind.

I want it to be a secret

But my eyes give it away.

I fear I might say something unsuitable

This is why I go far away.

I spend my time

On the side of the street.

Come and see how my

Eyes reveal what is on my mind.

In the never-ending midnight

I have my message of worship

Break my meditation

With a sudden laughter.

I spend my lonely days

And nights stringing

My garland of contemplation.

Absentmindedly I will sing

Come for a moment

To find out what is  on my mind!

365 Writing Prompts: Back to the future

A service has been invented through which you can send messages to people in the future. To whom would you send something, and what would you write?

Realistically speaking I cannot think of sending messages to any one if I’m unable to understand what kind of service will be invented in the future.

It seems so unreal, but if I become an optimist and make myself believe there will be an invention and I will have the opportunity to send messages to people I have met along the way, I certainly would send a message to a young lady I met a while ago.

One winter morning I met a young girl in the shopping center, I don’t know who she was, I was worried how to climb the snow bank to get on the pavement, I almost wanted to turn around to find a spot where the path was clear. I was surprised when she offered to help me, “I will  help  you to get to the pavement”, she said.

To this day my mind wonders who she was, if I can miraculously locate her wherabouts, I will use this service to write a  note to her, the message will read, “thank you for helping me that morning,  you are the reason this world is  a wonderful place to live in.”

Tagore song: Shei bhalo, shei bhalo

It is better you rather not know me

when you go further away

it will  sadden me

Why are you abashed

when you are near me?

my spring has come into

contact with the musical voice

the shadow of the forest

has become sweet

leave the bower of union

decorated and scented

It is better you rather not know me

I have secretly seen your

disheveled hair,  eager eye

I saw you during the storm

the conversation that we

didn’t have ,the message

remains in my heart

I took those unspoken words

and played them on my flute

It is better you rather not know me!

365 Writing Prompts: Fifteen Minutes

You have fifteen minutes to address the whole world live (on television or radio—choose your format). What would you say?

I think I’ll use TV to address the whole world, it’s a medium where I’m sure more people will watch and listen.

To the organizers a big thank you.

Since I have fifteen minutes to let the whole world know my message : here it goes, Hello World , thank you for turning on your TV sets, I have a very important message for every man, woman and child,my message is simple.

We are at a stage when we are facing global warming, we did not pay attention when we were first informed . We now have to do our part to save the world we live in we are indebted to our children grandchildren and humanity  to turn this terrible news into something favorable. I’m not asking for too much all I need for us to do   is to cooperate, and   avoid further damage to our planet.

Recycle everything recyclable, stop cutting down the trees, instead plant trees wherever possible.

Use carpools so that there are less vehicles on the road or use public transportation  such as the bus or subway where applicable.

There a lot of things besides what I have mentioned, I’m hoping my other respected speakers will share some of their concerns.

Thank you for listening goodbye!

DP Daily Prompts: Bad Signal

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Someone’s left you a voice mail message, but all you can hear are the last words: “I’m sorry.” Who is it from, and what is this about?

I know, my friend Evelyn told me she knows where Aziz Fatima lives, Aziz will come to see her in Toronto, she’ll mention to her,Ranu is  looking for her.

It’s terrible I missed the most important part of the message, It’s useless to know she is sorry, why is she sorry, what happened did our mutual friend visit her, or she was unable to? These questions will be on my mind until I hear back from her.
