365 Writing Prompts: There’s no place like home

If you had the opportunity to live a nomadic life, would you do it? Do you need a home base? what makes a place “home” to you?

No, I wouldn’t like to live a nomadic life if I had the opportunity.

Moving constantly changing locations, switching from one place to another, finding a place to live frequently, not knowing where I’ll rest or take a nap when I needed is not a very comforting feeling.

There’ll be a constant hassle of finding a temporary place to live, what to cook or eat,who are the people close by, are they friendly or unfriendly. If they spoke a language I did not understand would further complicate my problem.

I need a home base, I’d like to know my neighbors and have a good relationship with them. There are emergencies in our lives, like sudden illness, some of the appliances don’t work, we can get someone to take care of it.

If I’m sick I can call the doctor’s office and get an appointment to see my family physician, in contrast a nomadic life does not offer these privileges.

A home to me is a place where I have a bed to sleep at night. A place I can relax, watch TV, write my prompts, play with my pets, read a book, there are all kinds of activities I can keep myself entertained with.

Dp Daily Prompt: If You Leave

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

I moved from Dhaka, Bangladesh to Montreal Canada. I moved again from Montreal Canada to Gander Canada. Finally I moved from Gander to St.John’s, Canada.

We did consider moving to the mainland it did not work out so we had to give up the idea.

There were a lot of factors against moving, selling our house was one, buying a place where we intended to move, the distance from our new home to the hospital,in case of an emergency was important for us to consider.

In the end the distance was a major deterrent, therefore we settled against moving. We are happy where we are, everything is close to our home.

DP Daily Prompt: No Fair Post by Ranu

I am thinking what is it I think is terribly unfair. There are quite a few in my head. One of them is fasting, our fasting month started in the month of July and continued till the first week in August. I have no trouble with it. But at the same time to fast from before sunrise to sunset in the month of July is where it gets kind of difficult. Depending on where you live it is over eighteen solid hours with no food or drink. We get the same credit as those who fast for much less time than us.It is all because of location.

The only way I can rectify is to move to a location where the days and nights are almost the same length. Moving out bag and baggage has its own predicament. It is not easy ,one has to consider the job prospects, housing, the location etc, I guess we have to be happy with our situation and wait for fasting season in December, when you only have to fast for about ten hours. It’s a massive cut!

Ack deen Raatey Aami shopno dekhinu,One night I had A Dream by Tagore translation by Ranu

One night I had a dream

‘Look’  ‘look’ Binu was saying.

I look out and what do I see a mutual beating of the batten and the beams,

Kolikata is shaking and moving about.

The huge brick houses are moving straight,

the doors and windows are noisy and looking great.

The road is slithering like a huge serpent,

on its back the tram and the vehicles are advancing boom boom.

The shops and the bazaar go up and down,

The roofs are knocking each other dead.

Howrah bridge the massive scorpion is moving with its might,

Harrison road is going close  behind it.

The monument looks like a crazy elephant’s trunk

waving its snout in the empty sky.

Our school is speeding in a hurry,

the math book runs so does grammar.

The maps on the walls are getting restless and fidgety,

Birds seem to flap their wings with authority.

The bell keeps swinging, ding dong ding dong___

thousands of people say wait,wait,wait,

where will we go from where, this is truly crazy!

Kolikata is not listening it’s in a frenzy,

her intoxication of dancing is visible on pillars and walls.

I think ,there is nothing to worry,

let Kolikata go straight to Mumbai.

Dilli can go to Lahore, and Agra too__

I will wear a Pugree on my head and Nagra on my feet.

But if it goes off today to London instead

the Brits will be visible in boots, jackets and hats.

When I woke up suddenly by some noise,

I see Kolikata hasn’t gone anywhere  boys.
