DP Daily Prompts: All or Nothing?

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

“Perhaps if we find ourselves wanting everything, it is because we are dangerously close to wanting nothing.”—-Sylvia Plath

In my estimation, a human being by nature wants a place of his/ her own, next thing is  someone to share it  with and child/ children to raise. When these things are accomplished the other material things are desired because of necessity.

Things I consider important to run a house smoothly are 1. A stove, 2. A refrigerator, 3. pots and pans, 4. dishes, 5. glasses, 6. cups or mugs.

A dishwasher is an appliance one can do without, it though is convenient to have especially when we have company.

When we successfully acquire all the above things, what more can anyone want, we need food and drink to survive, they are life saving things. Tea and coffee to me is optional, we won’t die if we decide not to drink them.

I hope Sylvia Plath when she said, “Perhaps when we find ourselves wanting everything, we are dangerously close to wanting nothing.” She did not mean the most important things to live.

Right now there are a variety of things for sale, each store is competing to make more money, they are slashing prices to tempt the consumers. Each store window has a large sale sign of products on sale, it attracts our attention, we go in and find things that look so awesome we are trying not to get tempted, to be successful we step out of one store and go to another, we find this one has more things on sale which is irresistible, we check our wallet, there is not enough, but we have that faithful card which beckons us to use it.

We think for a moment and realize yes we can use the card but we’ll have to pay for the things we buy at the end of the month, we think some more about our savings, no we cannot afford it we tell ourselves, quietly we come out and say, “I don’t think I want anything.”

It really is true some of the things we buy are not necessary!

365 Writing Prompts: Super sensitive

If you were forced to give up one sense ,but gain super sensitivity in another, which sense would you choose.

The five senses are: Hear; See; Smell; Taste; Touch.

Let me analyze these senses and see which one can I sacrifice to gain super sensitivity in another.

I’ll start with “Hear”, this sense enlivens me, if I lose it I won’t enjoy all the amazing sounds that gives me joy and comfort, would I or can I forego this sense for some other super sense I’m afraid I cannot. It is too important.

Next is, “See” sense of sight, without it I’ll miss the color of the sky, an exquisite art work of famous artists; read my books piled up before me; watch the growth of my cute kittens; there are so many other things I’d miss, is it worth giving up this sense to gain super sensitivity in another, oh no never!

Smell is a necessity for me without it I won’t know if what I’m cooking is burning. I’d miss the fragrance of flowers; I won’t be able to get early warning if there is a fire in my house; the foul smell that the skunk gives off when threatened.

Taste is very important sense  to have, if we lose it we won’t be able to distinguish between good and bad taste, I cannot give this one either.

Touch is an important sense in our lives, it helps us  differentiate between soft and rough fabric; makes us aware of things that are too hot; show love and affection; how warm is our bath water to avoid burning our body.

These are the main reasons I am unable to decide which one of the senses I can give up,each one is different.

DP Daily Prompt: Modern Families

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

If one of your late ancestors were to come back from the dead and join you for dinner, what things about your family would this person find the most shocking?

I’d say if my father came back and joined us for dinner , the most shocking thing for him would be, how loud we talk, how much food is wasted and there are too many things on the menu.

Let me elaborate about ,how loud we talk , when our father was alive we were taught one thing that is ,we must eat our food quietly, concentrate on eating and nothing else. I find it is a very valuable advice because eating and talking is not recommended there is a danger of food getting stuck in your throat which can sometimes lead to violent coughing and even death.

Secondly we were always told we must not waste food, keeping in mind all those people who go hungry each day,  would welcome some food, this is where charity is a good thing, the proportions we put on our plate can be measured so nothing is wasted, the excess food should be given to those who are needy.

Thirdly, there are too many varieties of food,to be healthy we should stick to ‘Canada’s Food Guide’. Portion control is a necessity,if we have more than a dozen variety of food we will overeat, which will make us obese and we’ll be lazy and sick.

Our ancestors were hard working people it will shock them when they watch our eating habit!
