Daily Prompt : Lust

In response to one-word prompt : Lust

History proves, lust for power is the cause of downfall of humans. Some humans fall due to their insatiable greed for money, more they have, more they want. It makes humans lose their conscience, they accumulate money by stealing, making deals with crooks, in the end trap themselves in a dire situation.

I remember reading about Mahmud of  Ghazni, who loved money, it’s obvious he amassed it by unfair means, it’s alleged by historians that in his deathbed he requested the people around him to show him all his money, when they did so, he cried because he couldn’t take it with him.

This proves money is not everything, it’s not the gateway to heaven more than likely it’s the gateway to hell, if the person got this money by deceiving, lying and cheating innocent people.

I am sure this craving for power and money is an addiction, it gives no peace to the one who has it and makes other people around him, concerned because his behavior is so unpredictable.

Daily Prompt : Pest

In response to one-word prompt : Pest

Leaves of our trees are thinning these days,

We try to help them in all sorts of ways.

My neighbor says, ‘the pests are eating them,

Ask the Arborist, perhaps he can use his gem.’

‘What kind is it?’ I ask,

He says, ‘it’s a small task,

They will  spray your trees with pesticide,

‘It’s a simple thing, for you to decide,

If you want to stop the attack, which is one of the ways!’

Daily Prompt : Gate

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Gate

The word, Gate, reminds me of an incidence, where I needed to see my uncle to sign his name and stamp his official seal on the piece of paper acknowledging, I am who the paper says I am.

I took the  stairs to reach the seventh floor, and then walked a few yards to the door of his office. Suddenly someone guarding the door stopped me,  his question,  ‘whom do you want?’

I said my uncle’s name, he handed me a piece of paper,  ‘Write your name and the purpose of your visit.’

I quickly wrote my name, and made it a point to include my last name. The guy told me to wait outside the door.

Within minutes my uncle came rushing to the door, he looked at the man minding the gate and said, “Do you know she is my niece, how dare you let her stand outside the door.”

The guy apologized and replied,   ‘but  she did not tell me you are her uncle!’

What happened to the gate man I don’t know, I did feel he’d have some explaining to do!

Daily Prompt : Buff

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Buff

My brother’s car!

Back when we  were young living in Comilla, Bangladesh, my older brother got a job as an Assistant Manager, in one of Duncan Brothers Tea estates. He earned enough money to buy himself a new car. In my eyes he worshipped it  nothing more than this new addition in his life.

He’d wake up every morning, and routinely clean, polish , rub and Buff his car. He’d spend at least an hour or two, and then he’d move about to see how gorgeous it looked. After satisfying his eyes, he’d call me looking very proud, ‘Ranu look, what do you think, did I not do a good job?’

My reply was the same, ‘yes you did, can I touch it!’

In his deep voice he’d reply, ‘no you’ll make it dirty.’

Mom would come out from her room and laugh, she’d say, ‘I’ve never seen such a (adekhle it’s a Bengali word means possessive person) possessive person.

Meanwhile we’d all join in and make fun of him. Those days are so memorable and I wish they lasted for ever!

Daily prompt : Impression

In response to daily post’s one word prompt : Impression

Pardon my Impression !

I’m too proud was my classmate’s Impression,

I asked her, how did she come to this conclusion?

I do not talk to anyone was her reply,

Stunned I was, I breathed a sigh!

Mom  told me to stay quiet outside,

Otherwise they will hurt your pride.

I listened to the voice of reason,

But had a feeling it was the wrong season!

Daily Prompt :Avid

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Avid

Once upon a time I was an avid fan of the NHL games. I gave up watching it. There were issues in the game, I as a fan could not control. Each period was supposed to be an hour. Every time the referee blew the whistle the game stopped. The stop didn’t count how long they were on the ice but only how long they played.  This meant the one hour period would take as long as an hour and a half.

Added to the problem was the players fighting on the ice. This lengthened the period even more. No matter how ardent I was to know the result, my hunger for watching it diminished,  I started questioning myself, if all this  was  worth watching a game which would continue till the wee hours of the morning. It shortened my sleep time, which resulted in drowsiness throughout my work.

It wasn’t good for my teaching career. I decided to do what was best for me, quit watching these games!

Daily Post, Prompt: Radical

In response to daily post’s prompt : Radical

As far as I know there is something radical in all of us. We want change and it has to be instant, if not we’ll be a failure. If God was radical, He’d at the press of a button bring humanity down. But He’s not, for the events of the world since He  created the planet earth is not working the way He thought it should. But He is patient,He is waiting to see how far His humans are willing to go down, before He pulls the plug to bring about the end of humanity.

For a very long time politicians have taken the role of bringing harmony to their land. How were they going to do it, some claim a certain group of people are the cause of their problem, so they’d a) remove these people from their peaceful land, b) would forbid these groups from entering the country.

If they (politicians) succeed will the lives of the country suddenly change from bad to good. This is the question we forget to ask. This is why the politicians succeed because they know what to say at the time of elections to get maximum votes.

We are naive we don’t think,we believe them and at the end of it all, we realize we were daydreaming, nothing has changed.

I remember once during the elections the aspiring candidate for prime minister knew the people of the country hated GST(the goods and services tax). He announced on TV he would remove this tax if he was elected, well that promise got him elected but he did not fulfill his promise, not only that, he claimed he never said that. But his speech was recorded, every time he denied they’d play the part where he said,”I will remove GST.”

What can I say, this is how things work, if you happen to think otherwise watch the next election to see  who and why a certain candidate won.
