DP Daily Prompt: All It’s Cracked Up to Be

Tell us about a time when everything actually turned out exactly as you would have hoped.

This incidentally is something that happened in my school. We the grade four teachers were planning to stage a play. There was no problem selecting the minor characters in the play. The problem was who can we select for the main role.

Keeping in mind there were five grade four classes and each teacher might want to have one of her pupils play the part.

I took a cursory glance at all the boys in my class. I was certain I have the kid who was perfect for the part. To see their reaction , I said , “I know I have someone who will be the best for the part.”

Immediately all hands went up , “Miss please tell us who is it?”

I did not want the boy to have his hopes up, I simply replied, “I can’t the other teachers may not agree with me.”

For the next few days I kept hoping that one of the teachers’ will notice.

Sure enough one of them came to me and said, “I have thought about it, you have the boy who is suitable for the main part.”

I was thrilled not only someone from my class was picked for the role, also I was right he was the only one fit to play the part! 🙂

DP Daily Prompts: Re-springing Your Step

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Tell us about the last experience you had that left you feeling fresh, energized, and rejuvenated. What was it that had such a positive effect on you?

I had the repairmen in to fix my dishwasher, it’s a new Samsung, I was told it’s a very good company, I bought it , the dishwasher only worked twice, I got hold of the company from whom I bought it.

They sent a man,he turned it on and found out it’s not working, he called someone who gave him a number to order the part needed to fix it.

This morning the repairman came with his buddy to replace the part, but when he turned it on the dish washer still did not work and surprisingly the repairman  does not know what’s wrong.

The feeling of energy came and left in a matter of half an hour, I still have the appliance which couldn’t be fixed.

On the up side I had some difficulty with signing in on a website, this is where I do my online courses, so I got hold of my good friend and explained my problem, we went back and forth last evening by email, but found no solution.

We decided we’d tackle this in the morning with a fresh mind, my friend thought since emails were not working, he’ll call me, something we are overlooking   we might be able to detect. Guess what, that precisely was the problem break down of communication.

It took a bit of time, now I am delighted I was able to go to the website to introduce myself. I’d say I am feeling fresh, energized and rejuvenated that the problem was solved by my friend, it wasn’t looking positive in the beginning!

I guess out of two problems, one could be solved was great i.e,  50% of my problem was solved, and I am a very happy person!

365 days Writing Prompt: Fight or Flight

When faced with confrontation, do you head for the hills or walk straight in? Was there ever a time you wished you’d had the opposite reaction?

In life we as humans face a lot of confrontations, sometimes I walk straight in, other times I try to ignore them.

Once I bought a shop vac and brought it home, when my daughter tried to put it together she noticed a part was missing, without that part the equipment was useless.

Next day I took it to customer service, the lady looked at it and said, “I’m sorry you cannot return those.”

Without asking me why I brought it back she gave me a reply which I wasn’t ready to hear. I wasn’t going to head for the hills, I took the confrontation approach, “What do you mean you wouldn’t take it back,” I said.

She said, “customers buy these take them home, use it and bring it back, our policy is not take them back.”

I was not pleased, I replied, “look you should ask the question why I brought it back and you shouldn’t assume all the customers are the same.”

She was ready to listen, I showed her there was a part missing, I could not use it without the part. I returned the shop vac and came home.

DP Daily Prompt: Witness Protection

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

When you do something scary or stressful– bungee jumping, public speaking, –do you prefer to be surrounded by friends or strangers? Why?

Bungee jumping requires a lot of courage,it’s not for people like me.

I haven’t been involved in public speaking much, the few times I was forced to do it, I preferred not to have my friends surrounding me. Friends have a peculiar habit of making a mental note of the mistakes I made and refuse to let it go. I am comfortable with  the strangers,   I’m not worried about what they’ll say because their criticism  will not reach my ears. At least this is what I hope.

Once in college I was compelled to take the part of the priest in Shakespeare’s, ‘Twelfth Night’ before I came on the scene I was very nervous, I thought I’d faint. When I finally came on and started speaking all those jitters that I had before seemed to disappear.

A friend of mine once remarked, “you shouldn’t be nervous, you taught for a long time”. Somehow it’s not the same feeling. In that scenario, I knew my students well, I spend hours with them five days a week. I am not uneasy.
