Five sentence fiction: Flames

Lillie McFerrin Writes

It was a beautiful morning, Mrs Hardy was baking muffins for Sandy’s classroom party, they were chocolate chip muffins, they’d be done in another five minutes, Mrs. Hardy told herself, suddenly she recalled her mother’s muffins they were so delicious, she and Mom would eat the fresh muffins when they came out of the oven.

The thought of her mother and the muffins made Mrs. Hardy eager to send some for her mother who lived close by.

As soon as Sandy smelled the muffins she came running to taste one, her mother told her about grandma and how tasty her baked muffins were when she was little, immediately Sandy said , “Can I take some for her, Mom?”

Mrs. Hardy was very pleased her daughter mentioned before she did, she said, “It will be so nice and your grandma would love it.”

Sandy packed a small basket of muffins for her grandma, as she was walking along, she smelled smoke and noticed a fire truck speeding along the road, further up the street there were  flames rising up from a house, she wasn’t quite sure who owned the house, she walked a few more steps when someone stopped her,  Sandy looked close, “it’s my grandma’s house, she said I have to save her” her last words were barely audible as she fell and fainted!

…………………………. 😦

365 Writing Prompts: Humble Pie

Tell us about a time you found out after the fact that you’d been mistaken and you had to eat a serving of humble pie.

I met  Mini in the university, she was friendly and very charming, she and I became friends immediately. She introduced me to her family members who lived in Dhaka. They were always very nice to me,every time they had a party, I was the first one on their list.

Mini’s family moved from Calcutta to Dhaka permanently, her parents did not because her father had a pharmacy   which he was planning to sell. Her sisters and brothers moved to Dhaka.

Once her eldest sister had a party in her house, I was invited, the food served was very tasty, there was beef, chicken, fish, all kinds of vegetables and salads it was a huge affair.

Mini’s sister was an excellent cook, she worked for days organizing the party. Her food was delicious, she forced me to try every single dish she cooked, only my mother cooked slightly better. I loved the atmosphere they all treated me like one of their relatives, I never felt out of place when I went to their house.

It was a dinner party I’ll never forget!

DP Daily Prompt: Envelope Pushers

pad2014-s.png (308×60) When was the last time you took a risk(big or small), and pushed your own boundaries– socially, professionally, or otherwise? Were you satisfied with the outcome? A few years ago my daughter and I were invited to a get-together party in a friend’s house. There were a lot of people there, food was served I was waiting my turn to get some food, my daughter was ahead of me, when she was about to get the food, one of our old acquaintance stopped her and asked  some unexpected questions. I knew nothing about it until we were ready to get into the car, my daughter told me about it and made up her mind never to attend these parties. I was angry, this person always looks for an opportunity to embarrass us. When we got home I dialed his number, he was not at home, I left a message to call me next morning, when my call wasn’t returned by 9 am, I called again, I was firm I told him he must never harass me or my daughter in the presence of strangers. I reminded him if there was anything he wanted to know , he should ask me directly. He tried to make excuses for his behavior but I did not let him. The same person has been doing this kind of irritating thing since we met him, I attempted to stop him, my husband would not let me. This time I felt he had crossed the limit I must prevent him from being a jerk. I was satisfied with the outcome, I was never bothered by him again! k: https://sabethville.wordpress.com/2014/11/24/dp-daily-prompt-

365 Writing Prompts: Land of Confusion

Tell us about a time when you felt out of place.

There were a lot of times when I felt out of place. Once I went to a party arranged by the ‘British Council’ I had no idea what sort of party it was. It was held in a large hall, I was about to enter the hall when  I was stopped by a sweet lady, she was carrying a large round tray full of drinks, she  asked me, “would you care for a drink?”

My facial expression must have alerted her to offer something different, she quickly changed her tone and said,”you can have tomato juice, you know.”

I thanked her and helped myself to a glass of tomato juice. I was out of place that day, everyone was drinking  liquor, I was the only one drinking tomato juice!

DP Daily Prompt: Party Animals Post by Ranu

I am not much of a party lover.I go to ones where I have no choice. Last year I went to one I did not enjoy.Everyone in that house were screaming at the top of their lungs. They were all adults. No they were sitting beside each other. Why were they so loud? I do not know. Maybe they thought it was the only occasion  they  could show how happy they were.

So from my description,I hope it is obvious I hated being there. When I came home,I  promised not to go to one  of those parties any more. I had a splitting headache. I felt I was probably deaf from all that noise. The energy I had, diminished in few minutes. It was a terrible experience.
