365 Writing Prompts: Can’t get enough of it

Have you ever been addicted to anything or worried that you were? Have you ever spent too much time and effort on something that was a distraction from your goals? Tell us about it.

If you call reading an  addiction ,yes I was addicted to reading Paulo Coelho’s books for quite some time.

I discovered him after reading his best seller and bought all his books available in our local store. I wasn’t distracted I just read his books any chance I got.

In the morning after breakfast was a good time to read his books, it’s the time when I didn’t have anything important that I must do, lunch was simple I’d grab two slices of bread and melt some cheese or put some peanut butter, this was a simple sandwich for me which took five minutes to prepare and another five to eat.I’d then read the book.

All my cooking was done before supper which was not a problem,I’d just put the book away and prepare supper. After supper, I’d wash the dishes and then go back to reading until all the books of Paulo was finished.

365 Writing Prompts: Reading Material

How do you pick what blogs or books to read? what’s the one thing that will get you to pick up a book or click on a link every single time?

Some of the blog posts I always read are written by my friends, then there are some I like because of their poetic skills, I read it  to help me.

There are posts where the writer writes about topics that are very interesting. For e.g., “The Bronx Boys”, there are others who write equally interesting posts.

Books: I always pick books based on the title : “I want to go home’ by Gordon Korman, “Charlie and the chocolate factory ” by Roald Dahl; “A dog’s journey”; and most of Paulo Coelho’s books.

I also read novels by Bengali and Urdu writers in those languages. There are many to choose from so far I’ve read the books written by popular authors.

Besides novels I like reading Biographies of famous people such as: Clinton, Iqbal, Tagore and others.

DP Daily Prompt: Binding Judgment

Does it ever make sense to judge a book by its cover—literally or metaphorically? Tell us about a time you did, and whether that was a good decision or not.

As far back as I can remember, I did not pick up books to read by looking at its cover. I went for the title instead.

My early years in teaching I read books if the title was interesting, and recommended them to my nine year old students. There were a lot of books in our classroom shelf, my kids didn’t read they were just not interested.

One day I was looking for a book to read, I found a book the title was,”This Can’t Be Happening At Macdonald Hall.” It immediately caught my attention, I looked at the back of the book and found out it was written by a twelve year old for a class project. His teacher suggested he should publish his story, as advised he took it to the Scholastic publishing company, they were impressed by it and published it. His book was very popular and was read by thousands of students across Canada.

His other books were ,”I Want To Go Home,” this one was a best seller too.He has written many books after.

Another book I read was, “A Dog’s Journey”, then the next one was, “The Art Of Hearing Heartbeats”, I have read many books I have chosen for the title and not the cover.

I also read books by famous authors such as , ‘Paulo Coelho’, I read all his books I liked most of them, the one I did not like was,”Eleven Minutes”, Paulo wasn’t too sure how the book will be received but it did all right.
