Daily Prompt: Circle of Five

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

A writer once said ,” you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” If this is true which five people would you like to spend your time with?

The five people I’d like to spend my time with are 1. Valerie(my neighbor) 2. Evie ( my college friend) 3. Dilruba (my friend) 4. my daughter and  5. my brother.

All the people I have mentioned possess very unique qualities.

Valerie is an English Prof in the university, she is a delightful person. Recently she came back from Ireland after a three week trip. She brought a beautiful scarf for me.

Evie is my college friend, she has a very sweet personality, she calls me often to tell me about the places she visited. She tells me not to call her, she has a plan where it doesn’t cost her much to call. I told her it doesn’t cost me much either. She insists she’d call me. Isn’t she sweet?

Dilruba is my friend who lives in Montreal, she is very good to me when I visit her. She has three awesome kids, I love them all.

My daughter is an angel, she does a lot for me. She loves to give me gifts. I adore her.

And what can I say about my brother, he is the kindest person I know. He is a writer. He offers online courses. I love taking these courses, I must admit I have learned a lot. I thank him for all the information he provides us.

The above are the five fabulous people I love and adore. They are delightful and the most trustworthy people I know. They make our world a very happy place.

365 Writing prompts: I want to know what love is

We each have many types of love relationships_ parents, children, spouses, friends. And they are not always with people; you may love an animal,or a place. Is there a single idea or definition that runs through all the varieties of “Love”?

It is true there are many varieties of love, such as: people, place, and animal. I’m not sure one definition will be enough for all of them.

When I think of love for parents, I feel it is not the same as love for the spouse, children or friends.

I know my parents would do anything for me to see me happy, whatever they do they do it unconditionally. They are never selfish, their whole world revolves around their children, they’d be devastated if anything bad happened to their children.

The children on the other hand will love their parents up to a certain point. When they feel that they are self-sufficient they’d either forget their parents or will have very little to do with them. This love I call “selfish love”, e.g A daughter sends an email to the mother which says ,”I only want to have a courteous relationship with you”. A parent will never dream of writing this to her child.

This  is a  comparison of love of the child and love of the parents.

Love for friends is different, if it’s your best friend you confide in him/her everything about your life, and hope it will be kept a secret.

With animals love is the reason we have them anyway, the animals on the other hand have no selfish motives like humans, their love for you is unconditional. Our love for an animal will always be the same, pure love.

Love for a place can change if you find some other place better or you can easily visit. I used to love a  place for a very long time, the distance, the difficulty of visiting it, is the reason I don’t think about it anymore.I do have a very fond memory of it.

Human beings are different , not everyone will treat their parents like the one I mentioned above, which happens to be a true example.

Daily Prompt: I am a Rock

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Is it easy for you to ask for help when you need it, or do you prefer to rely on yourself? Why?

I prefer to do it myself. If the task is something I cannot handle, it is easy for me to ask for help.

Once I was backing out of the driveway, my car got stuck in the  pile of snow, my husband’s idiotic nephew, stayed inside  and looked out the window.

Three sons of my neighbor were going to school, I stopped them and asked  for help. The boys were very accommodating, they  came and pushed the car.

When I need help I ask the people I know.

DP Daily Prompts: Unequal Terms

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Did you know today is Blog action Day? Join bloggers from around the world and write a post about what inequality means to you. Have you encountered it in your daily life?

The dictionary defines “Inequality” as lack of equality between persons or things. There are many others, but I’d like to write a post on inequality between persons.

Back from the stone age to now, the world has undergone a huge change, everything has improved the way we live , our speech, education, inventions, the way we dress.

What didn’t seem to change is our perception of dealing with people, we are holding on to the age old tradition of treating people differently according to where they’re from.

If a certain person is from a developing country they surely lack in education knowledge as compared to those  from developing countries. Who made this distinction, well it’s passed from generation to generation, this is a stark example of inequality.

I happen to be from a part of the world called a  developing country, who coined this word and why, is difficult to decipher, it used to be ‘under developed’ it’s a term not used anymore but is replaced by developing because people have realized it’s not politically correct, how long it will continue to be called  that, is hard to guess, but this much is certain, this term has already divided us, we are not in their league.

This kind of inequality will remain I think because it makes the developed countries superior in comparison.

Have I encountered this in my daily life, yes I have!

365 Writing Prompts: Stranger in a strange land

what’s your favorite part about visiting a new place–the food? The architecture? The people watching?

My first visit to London England was full of surprises, the first stop was the Heathrow Airport. The lounge was surrounded by shops, the candy shop, cosmetics, there were restaurants around, one was ,’Eat’, I watched the people working they were hard at work, not looking anywhere but their focus was on the customers. I could not picture myself in a place where all one does is ,’serve the customers’. It to me was too boring .

I bought a sandwich for myself and sat down on a bench, I made sure I could watch the people coming and going. It was delightful to watch people rushing to get the next flight, then there were others gingerly walking, I could see they were coming off a flight, their faces looked tired it must have been a long flight.

While watching them I thought someone in some corner must be thinking, where is this person going or where is she coming from? She is here for a while, I hope she is going somewhere. If I knew this is what  the person in the corner thinking, I’d say, ‘Yes I too have a flight to catch my stopover is a long one.’

I suddenly remembered I have to buy some chocolates for my family at home, I rush to the nearest shop, there are so many varieties, I’m having a hard time selecting the chocolates. I look around and find a family looking for chocolates too, they picked up a  box of chocolate, I looked and saw the name ‘Flakes’, I bought one and hurried to board the flight!

Writing Prompt: Too big to fail

Tell us something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail( and tell us why you haven’t tried it yet)

I’d like to attempt many things, the first and foremost would be to write a book about my experiences so far, good and bad, awesome people I met, places I visited, my teachers from lower grades to college and universities, my teaching experience, my disappointments, it will be my autobiography.

I did not try it yet, I think I have a lot more to learn and the best is no one has guaranteed I will not fail, which is the main reason why I did not write the book.

DP Daily Prompt: But No Cigar

I always hoped my husband would move out of Newfoundland and settle in Ottawa,Toronto,or Montreal. It didn’t happen he kept putting it off.

We looked at houses in Ottawa, the prices were reasonable. My husband would always have a reason to say ,”No”. He liked Toronto better . His friend sent all sorts of pictures of houses on sale. He either did not like it or it is too expensive . I was disappointed but did not fuss too much.

Finally I accepted the fact, St. John’s was a city which had everything we needed. Besides big cities had too much crime on the go, pollution was a major concern . Here transportation is adequate for us our car or sometimes using the public transportation is okay where I live. There is no pollution here.

Things have worked out for me. I no longer have the desire to move into a big city. I wouldn’t like to be continuously stressed out. If I need something I can always go for a week and buy it. Life here is pleasant, comfortable and there are people who are friendly and always ready to help, should there be any need.

365 days Jan.9th 1984

I am locked in a room with my greatest fear. I have to think what my greatest fear is.  The year 1984 saw a lot of important and unfortunate events in India. The attack on the golden temple in Amritsar, assassination of Indira Gandhi ,prime minister of India by her security guards and the Bhopal tragedy to name a few. In all of these events a lot of innocent people lost their lives. Politicians are always a target for disgruntled citizens. Where only one or two do the evil deed.

I’m   probably forgetting what I’m supposed to do. Oh I am in a room where I am locked up. What is my greatest fear. I’d say if I had to think of one thing it is the fear of people around me who are guarding me.  I see a variety of them. Old,young, middle aged, bearded, beardless ,tattooed, dark haired and tall burly type. With all of them focusing on poor me is pretty scary. All of them are eating Sheesh kebab, fried chicken, drinking tea, coffee for dessert eating cheese balls in syrup AKA ras gullas. The combined smell is disgusting. They are smoking the cheap substitute of cigarette i.e birhi.  It’s cheap and smells terrible. With all these weirdos surrounding me with their horrible personalities who wouldn’t be scared, considering the fact there’s no one to defend me. I want to scream at the top of my lungs and say,”Get me out of here please”.
