DP Daily Prompt: Agree to Disagree

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Do you have a good friend or a close relative with whom you disagree on a major issue( political, personal , cultural)? What’s the issue and how do you make the relationship work?

I have a good friend, we discuss political, personal and cultural issues, we disagree at times about certain things, we do not cross the limit, which is how I maintain my relationship with her.

I spoke to her about her health and that she should be careful what she eats, she agrees, we are humans and our temptation to eat certain foods keeps us from remembering how dreadful it is for us.

My friend maintains she is very careful about her eating habit at home, when it comes to going out to eat, the smell of food makes her break her resolve, I’ve suggested why not she eat at home but she is an outgoing person she’d rather eat out at the cost of her health than give up eating out.

In those times my mother’s words ring in my ear, “we’d only live  once why suffer heartache by denying yourself?”

These words are enough to keep me quiet!

DP Daily Prompt: Breaking the Ice

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

The internet has been swept up by the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Is there a cause–social, political, cultural, or other– you passionately believe in? Tell us how you got involved or why you don’t get involved.

I’m sure social, cultural, political or any other noise was always there, it was not felt as much as they do now, the internet, TV videos are helping people to get carried away these days.

Maybe we have too many mediums to make ourselves heard,to take advantage of it. At the end of the day when all who are involved take an account of what they have accomplished might find out their involvement did not make that much difference.

I always disliked politics, the politicians never tell the truth, they will visit you before the election, once elected they fail to recognize you. I always stay away from politics.

As far as being social, I’ve tried to be one, but quickly found out you have to act and react a certain way to be welcomed by the group, I’ve therefore realized I must stay aloof.

I have yet to find out the meaning of cultural, it is defined differently by whoever according to their convenience. I refuse to join with the snobs, it therefore leaves me with nothing and I am okay with it.

DP Daily Prompt: Dream Teacher

You can  choose any person from history to teach you any topic you want, who’s your teacher, and what do they teach you?

I would like Rabindranath Tagore to be my teacher, my topic is,”Nationalism”. My question to him is why is there a problem of nationalism in India?

Tagore says, Our problem in India is not political. It is social. He says in Europe, people have racial unity from the beginning, and where natural resources were insufficient for the inhabitants, the civilization has naturally taken the character of political and commercial aggressiveness. In former days they organized and plundered, in the present age the same spirit continues—and they organize and exploit the whole world.

From the beginnings of history ,India has had her own problem constantly before her–it is the race problem.

In spite of our great difficulty,Tagore says, India has done something, she has tried to make an adjustment of races,to acknowledge the real differences between them where these exist, and yet seek for some basis of unity. This basis has come through our saints, like Nanak,Kabir,Chaitanya and others, preaching one God to all the races of India.

Tagore says, those of us in India who have come under the delusion that mere political freedom will make us free have accepted their lessons from the west as the gospel truth and lost their faith in humanity. We must remember whatever weakness we cherish in our society will become the source of danger in politics, he further says the basis of nationalism is wanting. The very people who are upholding these ideals are the most conservative in their social practice.
