365 Writing Prompts: The golden hour

6;AM the best hour of the day, or too close to your 3: AM bedtime?

6: AM is the best hour of the day for me, I woke up a few minutes after this morning to say my morning prayer, it is called “Fajr” in Arabic, since the sun rises after 7:30 AM in my neck of the woods, waking up at 6:AM is a perfect time for me. I get enough time to wash and get ready for prayer.

It takes twenty five minutes to complete my prayer which is still before sunrise, then I have plenty of time to eat breakfast, take a shower, get dressed and do my outside chores.

Today is a very gloomy Monday, rain has been falling since Friday today is not different, it’s also foggy, October is not looking so promising, there are a few days left for November to show its face, well I’m a bit concerned because November means snow anytime, shoveling or getting someone to do it for us is another headache I’m not looking forward to.

I sometimes wonder is it possible to fall asleep in the beginning of November and wake up in December? It’s probably the dumbest thought, but wouldn’t it be lovely?

Wait a minute we haven’t had “Halloween” yet how can I think of November and December? Sorry folks, “Happy Halloween, to you all, especially to all the children of the world, wishing you’d  get bags and bags full of candy!”

DP Daily Prompt: Sleepy Time

pad2014-s.png (308×60) More and  more of us go to bed too late because of sleep procrastination. What are the nighttime rituals that keep you up before finally dozing off.

From my childhood I and my family went to bed early. We had a specific time to wake up in the morning,we had to get ready to go to our kind of work, my siblings and I were required to be ready by six am to catch the school bus, my Dad went to work at 8 am. My mom was up for her morning prayer which had to be completed before sun rise. After prayer she’d be in the kitchen to cook breakfast. My father was not interested in having the same breakfast daily. My mother was a good cook and prepared a different breakfast every day. Next she got ready to prepare lunch for my Dad and us.

Our habit of sleeping early stayed with us. I do not have problem with sleep procrastination. There are a few times I stay up longer than usual, these are days when we have company for dinner, other than that I maintain my habit of going to bed early.

My nighttime ritual is simple, these days the sun sets after 9 pm. This changes my routine slightly, I have to wait to complete my prayer after sun set. I still make sure I am in bed by 10:30 pm which is latest for me.

There will be a routine change for Ramadhan for a month, after that things will go back to normal as far as my sleep time is concerned!

365 days Writing Prompt: In Good Faith

Describe a memory or encounter in which you considered your faith, religion,, spirituality— or lack thereof for the first time.

It is not the first time I did it, but several times. I do it because I know for sure my belief in God will always help me.

I prayed for my daughter to pass a very important exam, It took me ten days to do it, there is a short prayer I have to repeat one hundred twenty five times, after completing I asked God to help my daughter to pass the exam. I strongly believe my prayer will be answered.

I was very pleased my prayer was answered.

Writing Prompt: Feed Your Senses

Write down the first sight, sound, smell, and sensation you experienced on waking up today.Pick the one you’re most drawn to, and write.( for a bigger challenge write the one you’re least drawn to).

I was awakened by the harsh sound of the alarm at 4 am . I turned to make sure it was really 4 am ,unfortunately it was.  Reluctantly I left my cozy bed went straight to the bathroom ,washed myself and voila I was ready to say my morning prayer. Why so early you may think, this one has to be before sunrise. Where you live the sun may rise later but in my neck of the woods it’s earlier.

My morning prayer takes little over five minutes, but there is a prayer I say for my family members who are no longer with us, then there is my dear friend, and a few other relatives, I also pray for myself. By the time I’m done the clock strikes 4.41 am, still too early for breakfast I tell myself. I go back to bed and sleep some more.

This morning I woke up again before 8 am ,heard Raphael and Gabriel our two favorite kittens wrestling with each other on my way to the kitchen. I used the microwave to cook my breakfast, the sound of this alerted Rafa I was cooking something better than what we gave him and his brother.

He started meowing and running back and forth  to each door to get in ,but we were not going to give in, when his loud noise didn’t make any difference, he resumed his game of snatch and pull with his brother.

I can see the sun is shining brightly which is a rare sight, we do welcome the precious one whenever the clouds decide to let it shine.

Now I have almost finished reading the emails I got.

I’ll publish this prompt and see what else I need to get done before I sit and watch the tennis match!

DP Daily Prompt: Just Another Day

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Our days are organized around numerous small actions we repeat over and over. What’s your favorite daily ritual?

My everyday most important ritual is to wake up at 4 am in the morning, it is changing everyday due to the longer days. I wash and get ready to say the prayer before sunrise. It takes me twenty-four minutes to complete it. The morning prayer only takes about seven minutes, I’ve added few more where I pray for my Mom,Dad, brothers, sister, nephew and niece who are not with us anymore.

I’ve also included my very dear writer friend . It gives me great pleasure to pray for all of them. I do not know whether my prayers will be answered or not,I do tell myself I’m praying for their well-being so there will be no question in the mind of God about my real motive.

After the morning prayer I go back to bed to see if I can  sleep,if not I get up, talk with our two cute kittens what they’ve been up to and to my daughter what her plans are after work.

Next on the list of other things is I find out what the writing prompt is and try to write something, if it is a repetition of a previous prompt I skip it.

I cook supper, for lunch I make a sandwich for myself. I read my book by Reza Aslan, he is an excellent writer and I find his writing enjoyable.

I watch some TV when my chores are done, I also read posts of bloggers I follow, they are terrific writers. These are some of the things I do daily.

DP daily Prompt: Saved by the Bell

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Tell us about a time when you managed to extract yourself from a sticky situation .

This happened to me when I was in third standard, one of my friends didn’t do her homework I just went into the classroom to unload my books, she got hold of me and asked me if I would lend her my book so she could copy my work.

I didn’t really want to do that, I couldn’t think of an excuse, I was hoping the bell would ring and I’d be able to make that as an excuse not  to share my work with her, to my delight the bell did ring, I told her I couldn’t give her my book because we were required to go out and join the rest of the school for prayer. I thought I dodged the bullet but no, when I left she tore the pages off my book. The story didn’t end the way I wanted.

Writing Prompt: Impossible

I’ve read and heard in the past that nothing is impossible. Since this is before breakfast, the first meal after a long fasting of the whole night. It can be impossible to perform tasks that involve my brain.

Having admitted this I must congratulate me because I finished my morning prayer which takes twenty-six minutes before breakfast. For this one excuses are not going to cut it,my clock reminds me it’s prayer time, I must complete it before sunrise or I don’t get any credit. Why must I look for credit only because during the day I may have been actively gossiping about someone who is probably not even on this planet to defend himself or/herself or some old classmate or colleague who gave me a hard time while I was studying or working with them.

Then there is the odd shop owner who sold me a defective product and refused to take it back, or the gatekeeper at the mosque who snatched my water bottle, thinking everyone who visits that place is some kind of a terrorist. Imagine taking the trouble to go for pilgrimage and harassed by some doorman trying to show off his fluency in Arabic. Do I care I don’t even understand the language, does he think  he told me off ,no I’m sad to let him no, his screaming words were a bunch of rubbish which I didn’t comprehend.

Then there is the postal fellows who don’t know the difference between forward and send back to the owner. You come across so many inefficient and good for nothing people you can’t help but talk about it until the cows come home.

If you count you’ll see there are many humans spoiling my days and nights,if I talk about them it’s gossip and it is a sin my Mom told me. So I have to spend twenty-six minutes to pray before breakfast, otherwise my chances of being forgiven is a Big Zero.

What is impossible to complete before breakfast you ask?

1. writing the daily prompt.

2.writing a story.

3. doing my exercise.

4. reading my book which is saying “read me you have me for months.”

5. writing a question for the on-line course.

6.All of the above.

Writing Prompt: Comfort Zone

I need both routine planning  and laissez-faire  or spontaneity in my life.

Sometimes I have to follow a routine, spontaneity doesn’t work on such occasions, for e.g., I have to get up at a certain time in the morning to say my prayer. There are five times a day prayer I have to do. I cannot say it when it is convenient.

I have a specific time for supper,I follow that time table too.

But then again when it comes to writing I put it off till  I get into a mood for it. I am unable to have a specific time for it, I cannot force myself, if I do my mind is completely blank, and I don’t succeed anyway.

DP Daily Prompt: Connect the Dots Post by Ranu

I scoured the internet for uninteresting news.I did not find any. What I found are about things people like. I got no help from reading the news.

I pondered for a while about my life. It is not uninteresting.I woke up at 5:30, said my prayer,it took 26: 00 minutes. I took out Tagore’s book of poems and songs. Turned to the page where I found my favorite song, translated it in English. It’s written in Bengali mine and Tagore’s mother tongue. I think I am fortunate. It took me an hour to translate it. I posted it,something went wrong, the Oops sign came up,it cannot be found.I posted it again  with a few minor adjustments.I hope this time it is correct. This time it says ,my comment is awaiting moderation.

I went to the kitchen, had my breakfast.I wrote something for NaBloPoMo.I posted it. Then I read the daily prompt. I cannot find anything uninteresting in the  news. I cannot compare with what I did this morning. I think how I spent three and a half hours after waking up is interesting. It was time well-spent.

DP Daily Prompt: The Golden Hour Post by Ranu

Golden Hour

Golden Hour (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The Golden Hour for me was, 6: 20 Am today. This time is based on the prayer schedule. I woke up at 6:05  Am and waited for the exact prayer time. In the meantime I washed and got ready. When it was time,I started my prayer.Morning prayer takes little more than five minutes to complete, this is mandatory, besides I include another twenty minutes. I got the idea from my friend, she prays for her parents and other relatives past and present.

I started about eight years ago. It gives me a very good feeling to pray for my parents,my relatives and my good friend. I do hope my prayer will bring peace to my near and dear ones.

6 :00 AM is a golden hour for me. I finish praying in twenty-five minutes. I then have my breakfast. I wait for the daily prompt which is built into my schedule. I look for Tagore’s poems to translate, some days I like to do the ones that are simple as well as meaningful. All of his poems and songs are delightful and full of important messages,if we try to understand. I am also able to do housework and take care of other worldly matters,it gives me a lot of time to get everything done.

If I go to bed at 3:00 Am my whole day will be wasted and I’ll accomplish nothing.
