DP Daily Prompt: Instant Celebrity

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

If you could be a famous person for a day , who would you be? Why?

I thought about instant celebrity for a few moments. After taking a big part of my morning thinking, I came up with the idea I want to be the famous Joseph Phillipe Pierre Elliott Trudeau, he was the fifteenth Prime Minister of Canada for sixteen years.

He studied law and in 1961 he joined the staff of the university of Montreal as a professor of constitutional law.

When his party was looking for a leader after Pearson retired , he campaigned for leadership. He won and his party won the election,he was sworn in as Canada’s fifteenth Prime Minister.

The two important events that took place during his time was the implementation of Bilingualism , he fought hard and won to keep Quebec part of Canada and Canada’s patriation from Queen Elizabeth’s Britain in 1981.This brought about new and widespread civil rights for all Canadians.

His dedication for his country was amazing, his accomplishments are many, although I only listed some.

I like to be famous like him even if it is only for a day!

DP Daily Prompt: Learning Style Ranu’s post

Perhaps I may have a learning style different from others. I  experienced all the styles of learning mentioned in the post. Do I prefer learning in a group in an interactive setting or one on one? Do I remember information best through lectures ,visuals or by reading books?

Learning in a group in an interactive setting is helpful for those who can talk incessantly.I am unable to get much out of it,I am too shy to interact, therefore I do not  learn. I do not prefer one-on -one. In that kind of setting I find myself in a claustrophobic situation, which does not help me learn anything, rather my concentration centers on when  will it end , so I am  free to move around.  Lectures are always boring. In my mind I think of the strange pronunciation of the Prof. I end up making fun of him/her,this results in my failure to learn.I remember my first year in college, our Civics Prof. always  started with ,’Civics from the western point of view’ every day this was his opening statement. His lecture did not help me. I had to read my book to prepare for exams.

I learn well by reading books I have no distraction.I do not feel trapped in my seat for a long period of time. I am not worried about interaction where I am the only one not participating. I pick  reference books I like ,I make notes . I study at home and in the library. Both these places are quiet. I get a lot out of it.

Journal of Contemporary History

Journal of Contemporary History (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I successfully completed my under graduate degree. My aim was to study Economics. My sister discouraged me. She thought I was not a serious student and Economics was a tough subject, her advice was study ‘English Literature’ this was when I finally put my foot down.    ‘No I said I’ll study History’. I got my way.The next on my list was to choose between:Contemporary History,Architectural or Museum,I leaned towards Architecture but couldn’t,there were not enough books I could get, same was the case with Museum History. I reluctantly took Contemporary History.

One of my Professors was a very strange individual. Whenever he passed by us,he wouldn’t let us wish him good morning or afternoon,he would just turn his head the other way. Whenever we saw him coming towards us we’d do the same he did to us.This particular day he wanted to scold me for reason unknown to me. He looked right at me and said,  ‘I want to talk to you’ I was alarmed what can he talk to me about? There was no introduction of any sort, he said, ‘Do You Know What Your Problem Is,you jump from one group to another’,it is true I changed courses but I had a legitimate reason for doing so. Like a judge he  gave his verdict and off he went. Another more kind professor said, ‘You had a better chance to get ‘First Class’ if you studied Architectural History, you have lost your chance. It so happens that all the honours graduates had taken Contemporary History since I didn’t,they were the ones eligible.  They give first class to honours graduates and they pick only one,I had no chance.I really didn’t care.

I successfully completed my degree. As Tagore would say, ‘ This is the conclusion of my story and with it the dancing  plant is chopped off’.

Bye to all my followers it was fun writing about me.I sincerely hope I didn’t bore any of you.Thank you.
