Tagore song: amar bhanga pauther posted and translated by Ranu

Whose  footprints are  imprinted

On my  dusty red  path.

The petals of her garland,

are scattered  on the path,

I know they   belong to her.

She came quietly

informed me after she left.

Alas! who else can

make me weep except her.

Whose footprints do I see

on my broken  dusty red path?

She came in early dawn,

That day, Spring  came down to earth

in her colorful attire.

The path was strewn with flowers

I waited inside  all day for some news

There was none.

Today I will go out

on the same  dusty red path,

with my torn life!

365 Writing Prompts: Bookworms

Grab the nearest book. Open it and go to the tenth word. Do a Google Image Search of the word. Write about what the Image brings to mind.

The tenth word is: FIRST

Google Image: A circle divided into ten parts, first part is shaded, the color is green.

The image green brings to mind a lot of things such as a green garden, green with envy, green grass, green apple, green bananas and so on.

Color is extremely important,it helps us to relate through sensation, we react towards a specific color. When someone is jealous we say he/she is,’green with envy,’ we don’t always associate green with envy, there are a lot of  green things that are soothing, such as green grass, the grass reminds us that nature is coming alive, when we see green apple we feel the sensation of something sour, whereas green banana tells us it’s not ripe yet, but then again some green bananas, called plantains can be cooked we don’t need yellow plantains.

When we think about traffic lights, green tells us to go,yellow means caution and red tells us to stop. These signs are necessary it gives us the kind of freedom we need in a world full of vehicles and people, it teaches us the need for safety by using different colors of lights.

Color shows celebration of life in a variety of ways, in some parts of the world people paint their faces using different colors. Statues and monuments are built and painted in vibrant colors. They are done that way to attract tourists who visit these places and help to improve the economy of that place.

History tells us colorful tales through archaeological sites, architecture, art and literature. The story of “Taj Mahal” in India is famous which tells us it was built in memory of Mumtaz Mahal , Emperor Shah Jahan’s wife.

Whenever I think of red,it reminds me of the wedding sari I wore on my wedding day .Everyone else was wearing other colors. It makes me wonder why in our culture red is the color chosen for a bride. Could it be friends and family want the bride to stand out and be noticed.I get mixed feelings about it.

We have traffic lights, red, yellow and green. Red is a warning which in other words, tells us we should stop.Yellow is for caution and green means, freedom to drive on.

Going back to red for a bride in our culture, how does it make sense to dress the bride in red. If red warns us to stop,in case of traffic lights, why is the color red suitable for a bride. In all other cases red means danger, why is it okay for a bride to wear a red sari on her wedding day. I really am puzzled!
