Reincarnation : Memories, posted by Ranu

Sometimes my brain needs a jog

Believe me at times it likes to fog

It happened to me yesterday

Reincarnation was the word this day

I was going out of my mind

Thinking my brain needs to unwind

I sat down and thought

What am I doing wrong?

I took a minute and sang a song

I felt my brain suddenly woke up

Sorry Ranu I took a break

Do not worry for heaven’s sake

I am one of your machines

Perhaps you had too much caffeine

Forgive me if I want some rest

It’s the only way I perform my best!

Reincarnation do you believe in it?

Do I believe in,”Reincarnation?” I cannot say yes or no, simply because I don’t know.

I know “Reincarnation” is the religious or philosophical concept that the soul or spirit , after biological death can begin a new life in a new body.

Majority of sects such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam do not believe that individuals reincarnate.

In Latin reincarnation means, “entering the flesh again.”

There is no word in Pali or Sanskrit  which corresponds exactly to rebirth, transmigration or reincarnation. The process  that gives rise to the cycle of death and rebirth  governed by Karma is referred to as “Samsara”.

Samsara is a Sanskrit word which means “a wandering through”.The concept of Samsara is closely associated with the belief that the ignorant person continues to be born and reborn in various realms in the form of a human, animal, or other being, even plants and rocks(depending on Karma) but most philosophic traditions of Hinduism and Buddhism maintain that plants and rocks cannot be included since they lack the possibility of experience(bhoga)and, hence of karma.

Tagore in his song titled “forever me” clearly indicates that he’d be reincarnated , his words,” who says I won’t be there, I will be there  as a new person with a different identity,” which in my mind  means he’d be born again.

Whether I believe in reincarnation is something I did not think of, so I cannot give a definitive answer!

Writing Prompt: Karma Chameleon

Reincarnation, the rebirth of a soul in a new body. When I was in my early teens,I watched  a Bengali movie, the title was “after Death. ” I was skeptical about it,I didn’t believe there could be such a thing as reincarnation. Recently I watched another movie in Hindi, this one was also about reincarnation. My belief was shaky,I felt maybe there is some truth in it.I chose a poem of Tagore  to translate, this one was also related to the same subject.

I am pretty much convinced this is something I could do research on and post it on my blog. I have gathered some information from Dr. Ian Stevenson’s life’s work. The best known collection of scientific data that appears to provide scientific proof that reincarnation is real, is the life’s work of Dr. Ian Stevenson. Stevenson did not rely on hypnosis,he chose to collect thousands of cases of children, who remembered their past life.

One of his cases was a child from India. Her name is Swarnlata. from the time she was three, she gave enough information,to enable Dr. Stevenson to locate the family of the deceased person she remembered. She gave more than fifty specific facts that were verified.

She was born to an intellectual and prosperous family in Pradesh in India in 1948.one day she was travelling with her father past the town of Katni  it was more than hundred miles from her home. She was only three years old,she suddenly asked the driver to turn down a road  she claimed where she said was,”my house.” She said they can get a better cup of tea there than they could on the road. Soon she began to tell more about her life in Katni. Her father carefully wrote them down. She said her name was Biya Pathak and that she had two sons. She gave a detailed description of the house. She said behind her house was a girl’s school. In front there was a railway line. Everything she said was amazingly accurate.

She said Biya died of a pain in her throat, she gave the name of the doctor who treated her. She also recalled an incident at a wedding when she and her friend had difficulty finding the washroom.

When Swarnlata was ten years old her case reached Professor H.N.Bannerjee. He was an Indian researcher and a colleague of Stevenson. To verify her memory Professor Bannerjee travelled to Katni. From Swarnlata’s description,he found the house.the house was changed a bit.He found out it belonged to the Pathak family.

He interviewed the family and verified everything Swarnlata had said. The Pathaks and the Mishars did not know each other. In 1959 Biya’s son, husband and eldest brother journeyed to Chhatarpur where Swarnlata lived. To test her they did not reveal their identity or purpose of their visit. However they took nine men to accompany them to the Mishar’s home.

Swarnlata instantly recognized her brother and called him “Babu.” Not much is known about the reaction of the parties,as Dr. Stevenson only gave  the bare facts.

Swarnlata identified her son,Murli, who tried to trick her,but was not successful. The ten year old went around the room looking at each man, some she knew from her past, others she said were strangers. She recognized Chintamini Pandey, husband of Biya. She reminded Mr. Pandey that he had stolen twelve hundred rupees from Biya’s box. Pandey admitted the truth, this was something only he and his wife knew.

Again to test her, she was taken to a room full strangers and asked whom she recognized. She correctly picked her husband’s cousin. Murli further tested her by introducing her to a man he claimed was his new friend Bhola. Swarnlata could not be deceived, she immediately knew it was actually Naresh, Biya’s second son.

In the years that followed,Swarnlata regularly visited the Pathaks. The pathak brothers and Swarnlata observed the Hindu custom of Rakhi,in which the brothers and sisters annually renew their devotion to each other. The Pathaks did not believe in reincarnation but changed their views of reincarnation and accepted Swarnlata as Biya reborn.

There are reports she grew up normally, received an advance degree in Botany and got married. Once she said she wished she could return to the life of Biya.

Valkyries(3) Novel by Paulo Coelho Book Report By Ranu

Paulo and his wife drove from Los Angeles airport to their destination.Paulo was driving and his wife was giving the direction. After driving for several hours they reached Borrego Springs. They checked in at a hotel and went out for dinner. They then wandered out into the Mohave desert. It was an enormous desert. Paulo wanted to get the feel of it and breathe in  the air of Mohave.

Paulo and his wife Chris talked about Angels.Paulo always felt they were watched by Angels.Gods Messengers. He said the universe is populated with angels. They give us hope. J. told him they take whatever form a person imagines they have. Paulo imagined his angel. He already immersed himself in the invisible world. Since J. had assigned him the task,he felt the presence of his angel much more.

The hotel watchman discouraged them to go to the desert at night. It’s dangerous because  the coyotes  and the snakes come out at night.Paulo was waiting to meet his contact early morning.

Paulo’s contact Gene was a man in his twenties. He lived in a trailer several miles from Borrego Springs. The young man talked about the rituals of the Templars, about reincarnation, about Sufi magic, the Catholic Church in Latin America. He knew a lot. Gene was curious why Paulo brought his wife. He thought it would be better if he came alone.

Paulo asked Gene about the Valkyries .Gene said they are jealous and tough. They follow the same rules as the angels.Gene left and told Paulo,he will come back in two days. Chris asked Paulo about Gene.He said his father is a Magus .He wants Gene to maintain the family tradition.

Daily Prompt: Deja Vu Posted by Ranu

Deja Vu from French ,literally “already seen”is the phenomenon of having a strong sensation that an event or experience currently being experienced has been experienced in the past. I racked my brain to see if I was exposed to such an experience. The result that comes out time after time is no I didn’t. The only thing that resembles ever so slightly,is once I dreamt a group of people coming up the hill to our house.Next morning sure enough I experienced the same thing. When I think about it,it doesn’t have any similarity that can be called,Deja Vu.

When I read the Daily Prompt, the thought entered my mind is,it sounds like reincarnation. When a person is born again and remembers the events that happened in their life before. Not exactly the same things are repeated but they recognize the people and the place, they had seen before.

I had the experience of a dream about my cat J.D after she died, she was healthy and her coat was beautiful and shiny, of my husband who seemed to be in a hurry and wanted me to go with him .This was also a dream, but it is not what the requirement is. So I might as well be truthful and write, ‘No I did not experience ,Deja Vu.
