Tagore song; ke jabi tora pare ogo ke posted and translated by Ranu

Who will go to the other side of the river,

I am waiting on the shore with my boat.

On the other side there is a garden,

They play all kinds of games.

On this side there is an endless

stretch of desert.

Who will go to the other side,

I am waiting on the shore with my boat.

It is daytime now, come who wants to go,

Why are you wasting time thinking?

The sun will set, the tail wind will stop blowing,

The boatman will anchor his boat,

In the evening.

Who will go to the other side of the river?

This is a painting of Asher Durand.

I am drawn to this painting. The scenery is gorgeous, the mountains in the background, the river, the amazing  trees covered with beautiful leaves seems to say, look at us ,take a picture we are here to entertain you.

The grazing cattle are inviting me to watch them and see the beauty of nature.

Then there is a family sitting under the tree telling me this is fun come and join us.

Asher Durand’s painting is awesome, he has created nature in its perfect setting.

nazrul song sung by ferdous ara post and translation by Ranu

Do not love me only

love my song too

Who keeps track of the bird

in the forest,

when the singing stops?

Love my song too

Who wants the moon

everyone tests the moonlight

At the end of the song

the flute lies in the

middle of dust.

You will never understand

how many lamps are burned

to give off light.

Love my song too

do not love me only.

The thorny creepers

grow from tears and

blossom into flowers.

You take the flowers

what do you give in return

in the empty vessel?

The thirsty quench their thirst

from the river water,

does anyone think how

thirsty the heart of the river is

from the pain of the ocean?

Do not love me only

love my song too.

Taj Mahal song in Bengali Translation and post by Ranu

song: Taj Mahal

Music and Lyrics  : Dilip Sarkar

Singer; Mrinal Chakrabarty

On the edge of the river Jumna

lies hundreds of dreams,

the mystery of the white stones

of mortals and immortals.

the pain of separation

and sick at heart.

Taj Mahal,Taj Mahal,

You are a picture

drawn with the paint brush

of a poet.

You have spread your wings

towards the path of heaven.

Today Mumtaz is not here,

Shah Jahan is not here.

Still love casts its ,

soft green shadow.

Taj Mahal,Taj Mahal,

you are an immortal

part of history.

You are standing firm

depicting the memory of

pain and love!

Song by Dwijendralal Roy Post by Ranu

My motherland,

A place of  green fields,

full of fragrant flowers,

it is our earth.

Where can anyone find a place like it?

She is  the queen of all lands,

it  is my motherland.

Where can you see  beautiful

bright sun, moon and stars?

Delightful birds puts me to sleep with their song,

and wakes me up at daybreak.

Where can one find a

place like my motherland?

She is the queen of all lands.

Where one can find pleasing rivers,

rolling hills,the gentle wind that

stirs the grain fields as ripples of waves.

This is my motherland

she is the queen of all lands.

I want to live here forever.

This is where I was born

and I hope this is where I will take my last breath!

The Elder Sister by R.Tagore Translated by Ranu

‘The Elder Sister’

Her father is a labourer from the west.

He digs the earth on the banks of the river,

to arrange the bricks.

The little daughter is going back and forth to the wharf,

she is carrying a lot of dishes to wash,

she prances down the steps several times in the day,

her brass bangle rings ding dong when it touches the brass plate.

She is busy all day.

Her younger brother bald headed, covered with mud,and wearing no clothes,

walks behind her like a pet bird.

He sits on top of the wharf, stays quiet and patient.

The elder sister fills her pitcher and carries it on her head.

With a  plate in her left hand, there goes Bala

holding her younger brother with her right hand.

She is her mother’s representative.

Her back  bent down with the heavy load ,she is a  very young elder sister.

Incomplete By Rabindranath Tagore___ translation by Ranu

This is a poem in which the poet talks  about all the things that he could not complete.

In life all the prayers I did not complete,

I know ,I know even then it is not my defeat.

The unopened flower  that fell on the earth,

the river that lost its flow on the desert,

I know ,I know even then it is not a loss.

In my life whatever is left incomplete,

I know,I know even then it is not false.

My future my  unblemished life

are playing in the strings of your lute__

I know, I know still they are not lost.

O River is a Bengali song. The singer is Hemant Kumar from Kolkata. I thought of translating into English because of its lyrics and the singer’s depth and passion, while singing it.I have listened multiple times and did not get tired. Here is my translation,I have added my thought to give a clear picture of the mood.

        ‘O River’

I only want to ask you,

Tell me where is your country?

Is there no end to your flow?

O River

You don’t have anything to hold you back,

Is this why you have no home?

One moment I see you flowing slowly,

And the next moment you are flowing swiftly.

Tell me O River where is your country?

Is there no end to your flowing?

With your flow you break a bank, and then you build another.

Someone who has no bank to break or build,

What do you do for it?

You are falsely thinking I am a stranger,

But I want to be a friend and I like to know,

Do you have no time to spare?

I would like to know your happy and sad moments.

Tell me ,O River where are you from?

Is there no end to your movement?

The river of life is our journey which we agree to take. Every living thing also goes through this journey. All of us are here for a purpose we are expected to learn, things to teach, much to learn and more to give. The choice we have is learning to navigate and understand the current of the river we find ourselves in.Sometimes the waters are cool and clear ,sometimes they are not.Despite the problems we might face, we have to be ready and work out the problems that face us,so that we can make our journey effortless and enjoyable!
