365 Writing Prompts: Fly on the wall

If you could be a “fly on the wall” anywhere at any time in history, where and when would you choose?

“Fly on the wall”, I would love to be at the time of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal Emperor in India.

Bahadur Shah Zafar  was the last of the mughal Emperors. He was an emperor at a time when the condition of the country was at its lowest ebb. His last days in his beloved land was difficult. He was accused of killing European women and children. There were charges laid against him which it was claimed would last till the world lasted.

He was frail and gaunt when he was threatened he’d be killed if he tried to escape. The Mughal emperor came out from the resting place of his ancestor after a long wait, one of unimaginable tragedy, hardship and humiliation.

I would like to be a fly on the wall when Bahadur Shah Zafar came to court at 11 am with his lawyer. How he tried to explain by hand gestures and his voice to impress the court of his innocence. It didn’t work, he was exiled to Rangoon now known as Myanmar.

He was a poet and spent his time writing poetry. One of the ones I liked was the one he wrote while he was in exile the following is the English translation  from Urdu:

I had requested for a long life, a life of four days, two passed by in pining, and two in waiting.

How unlucky is Zafar ! he couldn’t get two yards of land in his beloved land.

My life has no ray nof light , I bring no solace to heart or eye, out of dust again, I am of no use to anyone.

I came to the world what did I see ? whatever it was it was like a dream. Man is moulded from clay but I saw him as a bubble of water!

DP Challenge Weekly Writing Challenge: Staring Off Into Space

Whenever there are moments I have the leisure of sitting down, I think about me. What I have accomplished. What I missed. The people I’ve met, sincere and not. My life as a whole.

I studied as much as I could given the resources I had. There was one degree I wanted to get. Some how it didn’t happen. I had all the prerequisites needed to get in,I was even selected three times. Each time there was a different reason.

When I first received a letter of acceptance for the M.Ed. course I was excited. I had taken a teaching job only few months ago. I thought no problem ,I’d resign, unfortunately my resignation was not accepted. I was in my early twenties, I thought I’ll try next year. The following year I applied and was accepted, this time I couldn’t go because I received a scholarship to study in London. I was waiting for this miracle to happen. I postponed studying M.Ed. for next year.

I was again selected to study the third time, but missed it. I was married. I couldn’t try any more . I moved out of the country to join my husband.

When I think about how many times I tried and how the circumstances were never in my favor, I take solace in thinking maybe I was never meant to do that course.

I consider myself lucky for getting the chance to go for higher studies and come out successful.

DP Daily Prompt: Silver Linings Post by Ranu

Sir Muhammad Iqbal

Sir Muhammad Iqbal (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

There are quite a few things happened in my life, which I can  say are ugly or distasteful .I find solace in thinking, maybe something good will come out of it.

I spent days and months watching hideous shows.I did not learn anything from them,I only wondered why do they waste their time creating something that is teaching nothing good but everything ugly and repulsive. All these I watched on YouTube. Suddenly I saw an actor, singing a song,I loved the tune,I continued to watch it. I wanted to know who he was, I read about him and my interest in this person, led me to another famous personality, his name is Allama Mohammad Iqbal, I was able to get all the information about him through the internet. It is a tool where  you can get a lot of good and bad things. It depends on our preference. I took online courses offered through Iqbal Academy.I was delighted I was learning something useful. My time was used wisely.

I no longer watch shows to pass my time. I am actually gaining knowledge I didn’t have. From online courses I added blogging in my list.I’m having a whale of a time.I read posts by other bloggers,I get recipes posted by them, gorgeous photographs by bloggers and a whole bunch of things.Everyday I learn something new from WordPress and from bloggers. I can definitely see the silver linings now more than ever. The encouraging comments from bloggers  helps  me to keep on writing.
