Song, singer Lata, posted and translated by Ranu

Oh my poor grieving heart, be not afraid of sorrow

One day this heartless world will understand your story

In your hopeful heart, make some space for your wounds

Move on even if your friends add fuel to your burning heart

Do not worry if your life becomes a sad story

You can achieve nothing by complaining

It’s useless to cry, your own can become strangers in a moment

Oh my grieving heart, be not afraid of sorrow!

Daily Prompt : Song, Bengali song translated and posted by ranu by Ranu

In response to prompt : Song

Don’t Turn The Light On!

O sky do not turn the light on

Don’t open your eyes o wind,

It will make my beloved shy

She may turn around and leave

It’s time for her to  give me the garland

She will sing a song with her heart

Do not use her tune to come down o fountain

O tree of red flowers do not look

Sing not o dear Cuckoo

It will make my bashful creeper shy

Her words will freeze in her mouth

Her timid self has many dreams

Alas her tune floats in the middle of her heart

For God’s sake O flower do not confuse her rhythm!

song by Firoza begum, posted and translated by ranu

Your eyes full of water ,

Your border veil  stuffed with flowers,

Alas which  shall I choose,

My mind is anxious!

If I take the flowers,

The tears will vanish.

If I take your sobs

The flowers won’t blossom.

Watching you thread the garland,

Arouses my feeling of receiving it,

I love more when you weep in my absence,

I am afraid to lose you,

this is why I stay aloof,

My aim is to help you bloom,

and then leave,

My dear restless nightingale!

When time stands still,

My mind refuses to

pay attention to a friend’s call,

I lean on my head

On the window grill,

My thoughts keep

reminding me,

No one talks like my Dad.

He’d say Come,

Come little girl,

Come and sing with me,

Come and learn,

New tunes.

When nothing satisfies you,

Sit and play the tune

On the piano,

Come little girl

Come little girl come.

When my eyes get tired

And my coffee is cold,

I throw away all

the poetry books,

And I  wish I can

Hear my Dad calling ,

Come little girl come,

Come my dear,

Come with me right now,

Let’s get out of this city,

And make a fuss like

You did when you were

A child, you dragged me

away from my work.

Come little girl come,

When I went to  the shop

To buy new beautiful clothes,

I looked at the mirror

and imagined

Dad calling,

come  my darling.

Come my dear let me

see you before anyone else,

I want to see how you fashioned

your hair, what you used

for your eyes,

Every one gets older,

I wonder how many,

Can hear the sweet voice,

like my Dad saying

Come little girl come.

Hold my hand tight,

So I can bring you back

your lost childhood,

Come my dear little girl

This is a song from the Bengali movie, titled, “Two Brothers,”  although the song lyrics are serious, the two brothers are in a joyful mood , and imagining what would it be like, if they had someone they cared about.

Here is my translation of the song. Translated by Ranu.

Tell her not to come to my door,

Her musical voice does not make me smile.

The garland from her only gives me pain,

I wish the petals would scatter in the dust.

If this broken flute mistakenly smiles,

let it be filled with pain,

I know Spring does not love me.

Lack of light makes the night weep,

Yet the darkness drags on.

Love deceives me by leaving me,

I cannot endure the pain,

I no longer think of those eyes,

floating in my dream!

This was an interview with Hemant Kumar who sang parts of other songs. The above song  was from one of my favorite movies of Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen.

My bygone days seems  to  call me back,

the memory of those days, hurtful though they are

feels like colorful images in my mind.

I cannot forget how happy we were,

we met, fell in love, our paths united into one.

It seemed like a new world,

where laughter and singing

occupied our mind.

Those days are wiped out.

It feels like a dream,

which brings me down to the real world.

I’m left with my painful thoughts.

I ask myself the question,

Is the sky aware when and where one  of its

stars dropped from sight?

I happen to be that star who

no one knows.

I’m left with memories that once,

gave me so much pleasure!
