Daily Post: Sing

In response to today’s prompt: SING

Sing is my most favorite word, I don’t think any other word can compete, except God. I can sing my worries away, it makes me feel relieved that there is something that can use as a therapy for my mind.

Sometimes this lyric can make you forget yourself like : Sing a song of six pence,a pocket full of rye

Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie

when the pie was opened, the birds began to sing

Oh, wasn’t that a dainty dish you set before the King?

Or Julie Andrews singing the hills are alive with the sound of Music:

Or this Bengali song where it’s asking the man of song to sing some more:

I hope you will realize how valuable songs and their singers are.

365 Writing Prompts: Ghostwriter

If you could have any author –living or dead— write your biography, who would you choose?

I’d choose Tagore to write the introduction, he is a Bengali like me,he’d be able to begin with an appropriate song, describing the places I visited foods I like, books I  read and songs that are my favorite.

I’d love to have Wordsworth write a small paragraph, explaining my love of nature.

The last part I’d implore Iqbal to complete, he was a Muslim, since our religion is the same he’d be able to explain my dedication for daily prayer.

These are the three authors I would select to write my biography. If there are any confusions writing it, Tagore will make it interesting by filling in the blanks with one of his remarkable songs.

If Wordsworth volunteers to get the blanks filled. It would be terrific, his wealth of knowledge of nature will fit in nicely to cover the spaces.

While I think Iqbal would do even better by covering the gap with his philosophy of human mind!

Tagore song–singer Srikanto–posted and translated by Ranu

Starry skies!

Universe full of life,

In the middle of it I found ,

I found my space.

This is  why   my wonder struck

mind awakens with songs.

Starry skies!

Unlimited time,

surging waves,

ebb and flow of tide

Oscillates the world.

I feel a pull in my blood vessel,

This is why my wonder struck mind

Awakens with songs.

Starry skies!

I walk on the grass

on my way to the forest

I was surprised by the

scent of flowers,

I was overwhelmed

I realized there before me

was the gift of happiness.

This is why my wonder struck

mind awakens with  songs.

I lend my ears, open my eyes

I gave my heart to the earth

I searched for the unknown,

This is why my wonder struck

mind awakens with songs! 🙂

DP Daily Prompt: Be the Change

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

What change, big or small, would you like your blog  to make in the world?

I’d like to make some small changes in my blog. I’m hoping to add some photographs taken by me, I have thought about writing some recipes and a bit of poetry to enliven my blog.

I have read and translated quite a few poems, song lyrics mostly by Tagore. I feel why not I try to write some poetry, to broaden my horizon.

I do take photographs occasionally, these days Gabriel and Raphael the two felines gives me ample scope to write about them and also I’d like to focus a bit of time about their behavior, good and bad.

I’ll see how it goes, I would also write the daily prompts, they are always interesting.

DP Daily Prompt: New Skin

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

If you could spend the next year as someone radically different from the current “you”–a member of a different species, someone from a different gender or generation, etc.– who would you choose to be?

I’d love to be Rabindranath Tagore, to see if all his creativity rubs off on me. His poems, his stories, his non-fiction and his songs is what makes him who he was.

For starters I’d like to concentrate on his songs and pay more attention to the lyrics. I’m always motivated by his songs, the soft melody makes the songs beautiful.

I always wanted to learn singing, but could not my mom was too scared for she thought I may not get the kind of education she wanted me to have.

Now it’s different I can live in the world of fantasy for a while and be what I’d like to be, a singer, who is able to play as many musical instruments as is humanly possible. Pull out of the archives some of the best songs of Tagore and sing them with ease much like a professional. That will be awesome for me!

365 days Writing Prompt: The zone

Tell us about your favorite way to get lost in a simple activity— running, chopping vegetables, folding laundry, whatever. What’s it like when you’re in the “Zone”?

Running, chopping vegetables, folding laundry, none of these activities are my favorite way of getting lost.

Listening to songs is  my favorite pastime, they remind me of my childhood, whenever there was a wedding in town the bride’s family played different songs on the loudspeaker, the songs became my favorite and I sang along, it was something I loved doing, I would get lost in my thoughts and hoped the songs would never end.

When I’m by myself, I listen to Tagore songs on youtube, I imagine Tagore singing and telling us how we should spend our time. It feels nice to be able to sing along and forget about the unpleasant things happening in our day to day life.

Rabindranath Tagore won the Nobel prize for literature. It is the first Nobel prize won by Asia. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I heard about Rabindranath Tagore when I first came to Bangladesh. He was a very popular poet. There used to be recitation contest in schools, the most used poems were those written by Tagore.  My sister’s friend played a Tagore song to entertain me. As soon as I heard the song,I sat up and listened, the friend knew I liked the song, she asked me if I wanted to hear it again I nodded my head, she watched me and kept on playing the song. After playing a number of times, she asked me if I wanted to hear it again, and also reminded me she had played the song thirteen times already.I was embarrassed and said no. Imagine hearing the same song thirteen times. I managed to remember the lyrics and the tune. I had no trouble singing the song.

Since that time I read Tagore’s novels, poems and songs. When I started blogging one of my online course participant advised me to translate Tagore’s poems.I have translated quite a few.

We, Bengalees are very proud of our poet. Thanks to YouTube I am able to listen to his songs.
