Daily Prompt : Measure

In response to daily-post’s one-word prompt : Measure

Measure is an important word in our life. When we cook a dish we make sure the ingredients are chosen carefully to make a tasty dish, if we forget one important ingredient our dish loses its taste.

This discussion of taste takes me back a few years. My sister had invited some friends for dinner. One of the dishes was Pilaf, the main ingredient here is Rice. After she finished cooking it, she let our cousin taste it and give his opinion, I can still imagine his face when he asked, ‘You don’t use salt in this dish?’

Of course salt happens to be the one ingredient necessary for this dish and my sister forgot it. She didn’t have enough time to cook this dish again, but did not want to leave it salt free. She figured out a way to put the salt and was successful.

When we measure someone’s intellectual ability we make the person go through a series of tests, like we did when I was teaching in school. The reason was the administrator decided, since not all children though of same age can comprehend the lessons taught, i.e the slow learners, they had to be put into groups: A B C D . Though we did this on a regular basis. Somewhere in my mind I thought this process did not give valid results. Some children are stressed when they hear the word Test, they normally do not do well.

We measure success by the results of people, it may be an athlete, a teacher, a student or even a chef. I’ve seen some challenges on the food network, there are good chefs who come from known restaurants, some are chopped in the first round. The reason once again they are given a certain amount of time to prepare a dish, with the most unthinkable ingredients.

If you fail to measure the right amount of ingredients to bake bread, you will end up with bricks. It is a true story.

Daily Prompt: Generous Genies

pod-2016-sm.png (308×60)

Remember those lovely genies who grant wishes?Well, You’re one and you’ve just been emancipated from your restrictive lamp. You can give your three wishes to whomever you want. Who do you give your three wishes to, and why?

I’d like to grant the three wishes  to my writer brother. My one wish for him is to become diurnal instantly. Studies have shown that people who are nocturnal , suffer from ill-health. God made us diurnal for a reason so we can work during the day and sleep at night. Also to make up for the sleep at night they sleep for more than nine hours. More than nine hours of sleep is unhealthy. My friend needs this wish so I think he’s the right person to get the wish.I therefore grant him this wish.

My second wish is for him to be very successful in his career.

My third wish is for him to be very happy. 🙂

365 Writing Prompts: Success

Tell us about a time where everything you’d hoped would happen actually did.

I cannot recall a time when I had hoped for anything. Every now and then, I’d tell my little brother , how I wished I could go to London to study. He and I knew it was something people like me, can dream of, but it would never become a reality.

I was once told by one of my profs. I should dream big only then I’ll be able to do well in life. Early in life the tragedy my family and I had to face was enough to make us feel, if we can be blessed with food each day and a decent shelter is all we could ask for. At that time I did not have any kind of ambition.

However my mom was a very pious woman, she must have prayed for us, day and night to be successful in life. I think it’s the only reason we were able to get a  good education.

When I was attending college in Dhaka city I was always concerned if my brothers were late in sending my fees. I went through this ordeal the whole time I was studying. I didn’t have the time to think of anything else. My mind was preoccupied with how many more years I’ll have to depend on my brothers.

The only time I was able to relax is when I received a scholarship to pursue my B.Ed. degree. I had the freedom to think of other things.

I still did not aim for anything out of the extraordinary,I just quietly hoped God would fulfill my wishes.

DP Daily Prompt: Secret of Success Post by Ranu

I consider blogging an “Art”.  I have ways to go to achieve this special ‘Art’. In my opinion I am doing well. Anytime I am able to write the daily prompts successfully according to my estimation, my attempts are worth considering. Then if I even have one follower who likes what I write,it is victory for me.

Since I’ve joined the daily prompt group,I am exposed to a variety of topics,I have written as much as was possible. Some were easier than others. The main thing is I’ve taken the prompts and made them my own.  Opinions differ about the”Secret of Success”, I feel if I can nail the topic my way, that’s the secret of my success. Granted when my work is published, you wouldn’t find it crowded with comments,I’ll probably have one or at the most two. It really does not matter and it will not stop me to continue writing. The pleasure I derive from writing a paragraph or two each morning is enough for me to tell myself ,”I AM SUCCESSFUL’!
