The Daily Post, Prompt: Summer

In response to daily post’s one word prompt: Summer

Summer is the best time of the year where I live. Everything looks so alive, the green grass, the trees full of bright green and red leaves, different kinds and colors of flowers, suddenly it feels Nature has come alive and showing off its beauty.

I love Summer here, it never gets too hot and stuffy it’s just the right kind of temperature for us to enjoy. Summer also gives me an opportunity to travel to other cities. I usually go to Montreal, my daughter and I rent a place for a week or two. We roam around in the city. Our favorite spot is the Farmer’s Market. The fresh vegetables and fruits are found in abundance. It is a happy atmosphere.

My daughter loves buying gifts for her friends, I buy a few varieties of vegetables to bring back. I’m not a lover of fruits, I know it’s not a good thing. In my childhood, I walked around our city, picked berries and ate them, wild  berries are the only kind of fruit I like.

Daily Prompt: In the Summertime

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

If it’s autumn or winter where you live, what are you most looking forward to doing next summer? If it’s spring or summer where you are, what has been the highlight of the season so far for you?

It is summer where I live, we are still waiting for real summer, it hasn’t shown up yet. One warm day is followed by       several cold wet days. Today it’s sunny, the wind is strong and cold, I’m not sure if we will have summer. Today is the 30th June, if I didn’t know the date and month, I’d think it is fall. I haven’t stopped raising the heat in my house.

I am really looking forward to summer, the difference is I may want it but summer may not oblige me.

Although I have only been negative so far, there is a very positive side to these cool temperatures we’re are having. It is the month of fasting, where we are not allowed to eat or drink for nineteen hours, the cool weather helps, we are not thirsty, at least I am not. It is a big plus for me. Today is the 13th day of Ramadan, I haven’t felt thirsty all these days, I do feel hungry for a few minutes then I’m okay.

I must say cool summer is very helpful for those who are fasting. I’m getting a lot of benefit because of it. I know I must not complain.

Daily Prompt: Turn,Turn, Turn

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Seasons change so quickly! Which one do you most look forward to? Which is your least favorite?

My most favorite season is summer, here in Newfoundland it does not get too hot, the weather is nice. I get to go out without warm clothes. I look forward to summer because it’s not that long.

My least favorite season is winter. The days are short and extremely cold, we have too much snow, clearing the snow from the driveway is a chore I avoid. Then untimely rain makes the roads and the driveways very slippery.

Some people remark, ‘It is so slippery we should go out in our skates.’

Those who are good in skating and enjoy it, it’s a fun time for them. I tried to learn skating but was unable to slide, and fell down countless times.

Winter is much longer and keeps me home 24/7. I do not enjoy winter.

365 Writing Prompts: Turn,turn, turn,

For many of us, winter is blooming into spring, or fall hardening into winter.Which season do you most look forward to?

Our winter is quite stubborn, the days are longer, it is April but snow continues to fall. I am not certain when spring will finally arrive. Right now the trees are bare, the grounds are covered with snow and the temperature below 8 degrees, which is quite disappointing.

The season I look forward to is summer. The weather is warm, I get to see our yard full of lovely flowers and the branches of trees covered  with beautiful leaves.

Summer is a happy season, we do not need heavy coats or warm gloves or hats and boots. Nature provides us with warm days. The aroma of barbecued chicken, hamburger, french fries fills the air.

Wherever we go we see smiling faces, it’s a nice day everyone we meet yells out loud. We get to see friendly faces.

There are nine year old kids selling drinks and some cookies, just to please and encourage them, adults buy whatever they are selling. 🙂

DP Daily Prompts: Autumn Leaves

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Changing colors, dropping temperatures, pumpkin spice lattes; do these mainstays of fall fill your heart with warmth— or with dread?

After an extremely hot summer, fall is a welcome change, the temperatures cool off , the leaves change into a variety of colors, all this is a pleasant sight for a little while, but when the leaves fall on the ground, the bare branches of trees, immediately reminds me winter is ready to change its place with fall.

This is the time it is scary. the early snowfall in November, transforms nature into a white blanket of snow everywhere, on trees, on the ground on the roofs of houses, on the streets, children have a wonderful time playing with this free plaything.

Then it starts to be dreadful, the short days, the strong wind and heaps and heaps of snow, covering everything is no longer a happy sight, with doorways, driveways packed with snow, the task of removing the white stuff is an ordeal, no one enjoys.

The slippery roads, the unploughed streets makes moving hazardous. are a   characteristic feature of winter and I do not enjoy fall because I know winter is not far behind.

DP Daily Prompt: Odd Trio Redux

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Time for another Odd Trio prompt: write a post about any topic you want,in whatever form or genre, but make sure it features a slice of cake, a pair of flip flops, and someone old and wise.

I always look forward to Summer, it means holidays, bright sunny days and the best part it’s longer than winter days.

The past winter was tough for all of us, we had too many snowstorms, piles and piles of snow to clear up too frequently, the days were short and extremely cold. We’d sit around in our living room and plan how we’d spend our summer holidays.

We had to wait for real warm summer days, the months of May and June were not so promising, we had to heat our house we wore warm clothes to go out. It was discouraging to feel that cold in May and June.

Then we hit July, days were slightly warmer, the trees were getting filled up with leaves, the grass was green and above all my perennials were looking bright with all the beautiful flowers we planted.

I thought we spent too long staying indoors, it was time for us to get involved in summer activities, we packed our bags and headed to go to the mainland, we passed by Nova Scotia , New Brunswick and finally reached our destination, the city of Montreal in the province of Quebec.

My daughter had made arrangements to rent the apartment of a local resident. When we reached the place we found it quite spacious for the two of us, he had everything we needed, we only had to buy groceries.

There was a supermarket close by, we bought all the groceries we needed for two weeks.

Our landlord and his wife were two wonderful people, we thought of inviting them for supper along with their two sons. I cooked chicken curry, plain rice, and fresh vegetables, my daughter prepared a tasty salad.

My daughter volunteered to prepare dessert, it was her favorite cheese cake. I said, “you’ll bake cheese cake?”

In reply she said, “yes mom a cheese cake, everyone loves this dessert.”

The dinner went well our guests enjoyed the food, the boys were delighted to see the dessert, they had a large helping, their mom and dad loved the chicken and rice.

The family had to leave right after dinner, they were expecting a guest from New York, I offered to give them a slice of  cake for their guest, which they were happy to take with them.

My daughter and I were busy clearing the dishes after our guests left, suddenly the door bell rang, I didn’t know who would come to see us at that hour, since none of our friends knew we were in Montreal. To my surprise I saw the younger son, I wondered what he wanted, apparently he had left his flip flops and was back to get them. We looked for them and found them under the dining table, the little boy politely said, “merci beaucoup” and left.

My daughter and I sat and talked about our landlord, his wife and children and how amiable they were, my daughter said,”Mom I almost forgot to tell you about an elderly man I met in the park where I was running, he said he can read palms, I was anxious to know my future, I let him read it, you cannot believe what he told me, I was very happy, before I left, I told him he was a very wise old man.”

As I was leaving he waved his hand  and replied, “And you are a very wise and sweet girl, God bless you!”

This is my delight ,thus to wait and

watch at the wayside where shadow

chases light and the rain comes in the wake of the summer.

Messengers,with tidings from

unknown skies,greet me and speed

along the road.My heart is glad

within, and the breath of the passing

breeze is sweet.

From dawn till dusk I sit here

before my door, and I know that of a

sudden the happy moment will arrive

when I shall see.

In the meanwhile I smile and I

DP Daily Prompt: In the Summertime

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Theoretically, summer will return to the polar-vortex-battered Northern Hemisphere. What are you looking forward to doing this summer? If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, what are your fondest memories of summer past?

Unfortunately I am living in the northern hemisphere and am anxiously waiting for summer, which still looks as though it is taking its time to show itself because our behavior is less than desirable. Why you ask, we are not recycling as we should, we are making it look as if every space visible is a huge garbage can, we own too many cars per family and are the cause of pollution. We are too lazy to throw our used coffee cups in the designated areas,we ignore it and throw it on the spot where we had our coffee. We’ve been warned but we ignore the signs.

When summer decides to show up, I am planning to get every bit of stuff I am not using and making my house look like a junk yard, donate  to citizens who might find better use for them.

My garden needs a thorough clean up and perennials would be sorted out, if they need to be thinned out then I’ll do that and not strangle them by overcrowding . The trees and shrubs need pruning, since I won’t be able to do this job,I’d hire the right people to take care of it.

Summer is the best time to get things done outdoors, which is what I plan to do.

When everything looks half decent I might take a trip near my home.I think I have written how I am going to utilize the summer months, hopefully it’ll appear without any further delay!
