Daily Prompt: Blogger in a Strange Land

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

What’s the strangest place from which you’ve posted your blog? When was the last time you were out and about and suddenly thought, “I need to write about this”?

I was in Montreal last year, my daughter and I rented an apartment in “Beaubien”, the landlord was a nice young man, though a Frenchman, he tried his best to speak English. I noticed in a few days he was speaking unbelievably well in the language. he made me believe if we try we can always learn languages with relative ease.

The apartment was on the top storey, it had winding stairs leading up to the apartment. When I looked up I couldn’t be sure I’d want to climb up and down those stairs daily, after I climbed up and down once it became a habit and it did not trouble me anymore.

In that spacious two bedroom apartment with  large living dining  and a huge kitchen. I’d comfortably sit on one of the chairs and do blogging.

I never missed a day, each morning after breakfast I’d take my laptop in the kitchen ready to write the prompts. Sunlight  streaming through the window, made my writing more enjoyable.

After completing my writing prompt, I’d go out to see some of the shops, my daughter wanted to buy shoes, I told myself I don’t want any shoes, so I won’t buy.

While sitting in the shoe store I decide to get up and walk about, it was the biggest mistake I made, I saw a pair and felt there’s no harm trying it on, I won’t buy them. Well the shoes looked adorable on my feet, I just had to buy it, then I bought another and another, I ended up buying three pairs. I could not check my temptation.

I came back with three pairs of shoes, I gave in to temptation, next thing I realized we have to buy  a suitcase to pack all the stuff we bought.

DP Daily Prompt: Roy G. Biv

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Write about anything you’d like , but make sure that all colors of the rainbow– red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet– make an appearance in the post, either through word or image.

The clear sky tempted Pamela to go for a walk, it has been a long time since she got out of the house. The sun was shining brightly, the grass looked its original color and children skipping with amusement reminded her of her childhood.

Walking along a deserted path she met Sangita, her friend from school, they were delighted to see each other. All at once Sangita asked Pam if she’d be interested to come to their ‘Holi Party.’ Pam wasn’t sure it was such a great idea, she was wearing her attractive indigo dress, she did not want it to be smothered by multi- colors. Pam tried to excuse herself but Sangita refused to take ‘No’ for an answer. Reluctantly she agreed hoping her dress wouldn’t be ruined.

While walking along Pam tripped up fell down and scraped her knee, it was bleeding, she panicked and excused herself and ran home.

Mom was waiting for her with a bunch of Marigolds given by their neighbor, Pam got some band-aid to put on her knee and sat down with her mother. They chatted for a while mom went to check her roast, Pam took a magazine to read, it was all about Kate, Prince William’s wife. Pam loved Kate’s  dress it was a beautiful violet, she  looked extremely pretty in it.

Pam made up her mind to get an orange dress for herself to celebrate Spring!

I wonder, whose door  was  opened today

Whose success  brought about the sunrise

Whose inauguration filled  the gold pot  with light

And whose blessing  carried  Dawn through the darkness

Forest flowers blossoming,new leaves  swinging

Who helped  them to  string their garlands

After long years of waiting

who received the gift of selection

Whose life full of  sorrows  did this Day end?

365 Writing Prompts: Places

Beach,mountain,forest,or somewhere else entirely?

Beach at this time of year is not a place I’d like to go.

Mountain is not a place for the same reason a beach isn’t.

Forest, cannot think of going there either.

Somewhere else maybe, where it’s not cold, no snow no cruel strong wind.

Where the sun shines everyday.

We do not have to wear heavy coats, scarves and mittens.

Where nature beckons us with open arms.

Where the grass is green and feels like velvet.

Where the colorful flowers are lined up in a row.

Where there are hamburgers and french fries,

Laid out on long tables outdoors.

Where children are laughing and playing,

And mothers are smiling and saying,

“We wish it was warm throughout the year.”

That would be the perfect place for me to visit!

When the Moon and sun

Did not look right!

What is wrong My dear

Said my Mother,”Is everything

All right, please tell Me!”

I’ve told you many times

Dear Mother,but you

have only a one track Mind

You prefer to trust Minu

More than Me

This is My real problem

Mother please trust Me!

DP Daily Prompt: Fearful Symmetry Post by Ranu

Fearful Symmetry (Frye)

Fearful Symmetry (Frye) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Symmetry is hardly my forte.

Save me O world from this predicament.

Sorry says the owl”did you not volunteer to do the prompt”?

Shoot I say I thought it will be fun.

Sombre friend I do not want.

Said Sally with a smile.

Sam joins Sally to tease me some more.

Sun looks down and winks at me.

Sage sits by me eager to know what’s wrong.

Searching to write a poem is my problem.

Surrounding me they all cry in unison.

Salute we all for your fine endeavor!

The Heart

The Heart (Photo credit: petalouda62)

“The broken dream of a stream” By Tagore

How did the sun’s rays

penetrate my heart this morning,

how did the song of the bird

penetrate the dark cave!

I don’t know how

my heart awakened after

such a long time!

heart is awake,

the water is swelling up,

I cannot stop my heart’s

wish and emotion.

The mountains are trembling,

hailstones are sliding down,

the water is beating up

into froth

it is thundering in anger.

Here and there almost mad

it is turning and turning

and roaming around__

it wants to come out,

cannot find the prison door.

Why is the creator so cruel,

why is there trap all around,

break the heart,break the tie,

have the desire today,

lift the layers of waves

continue striking it.

When the heart is excited

what is dark,what is cruel!

When the yearning is increasing

why fear the world!

I will pour compassion,

I will break the cruel prison,

I will sing all around the world

anxious crazy water.

I will untie my hair, pick up flowers,

fly my rain-bow painted fan,

I will spread laughter

on the rays of the sun.

I will run from peak to peak,

I will conquer hill after hill,

I will giggle and sing rhythmically.

I have so much to say,

so much to sing,

so much vitality,

so much happiness,so much desire.

I know not what happened ,

my heart is awake__

from the distance I can hear

the song of the ocean.

All around me

what is this frightful prison__

break break break  the prison,

strike strike it.

O what a song the bird sang,

here comes the rays of the sun.

Tagore Song of happiness posted by Ranu

Ananda dhara bohichey bhubone  Words in Bengali

The poet is telling everyone to be happy, he says

Happiness is flowing through the universe.

The juice of life overflows,

as the day progresses into night.

The sun and moon take it in gladly

with their radiant light.

Why are you not happy?

what is making you sit quietly

immersed in your lonely thoughts?

Join the universe in this happy moment.

Open your heart and look what life has to offer.

Do not waste your time in petty sorrows.

Fill your heart with all the love,

the world offers you!

Probhat Ootshab Celebration Of Dawn By Tagore translation by ranu

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

How did my heart unfold today,

The world is here  to celebrate.

With the coming of dawn what’s this,

Who will I see when I look at the sky.

A ray of sun has fallen on the eastern cloud,

half of the red chariot is visible on the peak.

Birds twitter at the start of a new  day,

Their sweet sound  is a joy to hear .

‘Come  come’ sky are you calling__

I am not here, I am in your heart.

the light of dawn scatters my heart,

I will fill your heart with mine.

Arise O sun arise, take me,

leave me on the boat east of you.

I know it will cross the sea__

take me then, take me.

Imagine , I am travelling in a foreign land

taking my Mom far away.

You are in a palanquin,Mom

the doors slightly open,

I am riding on a horse,

galloping beside you.

The horse with its hoofs

blowing the dust around.

The evening sun is setting,

we arrive at the imaginary twin pond.

Wherever I look its quiet

there are no people or animals,

it seemed you were afraid

and wondered where are we.

I said don’t be afraid Mom,

over there i can see a stream-let.

The field is covered with spear-grass

a winding road in the middle.

No cattle are seen anywhere,

perhaps gone towards the village,

no one knows where we are heading__

nothing can be seen in the dark.

It seemed you said to me,

‘what kind of light is there by the pond?’

Right at this moment ,ha ray ray ray ray’

some people are coming with their loud voices!

Afraid you moved to the corner

praying to all the gods and deities___

the bearers in the prickly shrub

shivered in fright and let go the palanquin.

I was telling you,

why are you afraid,Mom,I am here.

sticks in hand, curly hair__

with their ear stuck with flower.

I say,’ wait beware,

if you come any closer

look at my sword,

I would cut you in pieces.’

hearing this they jump

and scream ‘ha ray ray ray ray’.

You said , Khoka don’t go!’

I said ,’watch quietly.’

I galloped in their midst,

with the jingling sword and shield,

what a dreadful fight it was

hearing this will make you shiver.

So many of them fled in fear,

countless heads were cut-off.

Fighting with so many,

you might think Khoka is probably dead.

covered with sweat and blood

I come and say,’the fight is over.’

hearing this you come down

you gave me a kiss and took me in your lap.

Said,’ luckily Khoka was with me,

what a calamity it would be otherwise!’

Daily so many things happen__

oh why isn’t it true?

It would be a nice story,

all will be amazed __

Dada would say,’how can it be,

Khoka is not that strong!’

all the neighbours would say,

‘It’s fortunate Khoka was with his mother.’

Please note: Khoka means a little boy in Bengali

Ha ray ray ray ray is the sound made by the people coming towards them.
