United States Grandslam Tennis Tournament

This is the end of the tennis season,

Djokovic is unhappy for one reason.

He could not qualify to play,

Cause he didn’t take the vaccine they say.

So the government had to intervene,

What could they do but be mean.

He jeopardized his chances to win,

The fact he’s so stubborn is a sin.

It’s awesome for the young players,

Felix will take over as the leader.

It’ll be fun to see someone else,

Lifting the Trophy I happily guess! 🙂

#Everyday Inspiration, Day Twenty: Wrap It Up

Day Twenty: Wrap It Up

I liked #Everyday Inspiration, Day Seven: Let Social Media Inspire You.

I enjoyed writing the day seven prompt, let social media inspire you. I used a quote by Epicurus, “Nothing is enough for the man to whom enough is too little.”

While writing the above, I wished I could use another quote to write. I got my opportunity.

Today I wish to use Plato’s wisdom to write.

“Excellence is not a gift but a skill that takes practice. We don’t act rightly because we are excellent. In fact we achieve excellence by acting rightly.” -Plato

I started watching the game of Tennis, several years ago. I’d say we were forced to watch it because our TV channel was showing tennis, we had another channel, which showed something, we did not like it so we picked tennis. It was difficult for us because the words they used was outside our vocabulary.

Slowly we were learning and came to a point when we loved it. I Knew the names of the players, their coaches. We looked forward to watching the grand slams, which were played by the top ranked players. Among them I noticed one named Roger Federer, he was young and showed skills that only comes from days, months, years of practice. It didn’t take him long to become one of the best.

Today, he’s not as fast as before. But he is good enough to be ranked number four. He won twenty grand slam titles and over a hundred titles in tennis.

He achieved all this because of his dedication to the game he loves so much.

Kudos to you Roger Federer!

William Sisters: Venus and Serena, the best tennis players

See the source image
World’s best tennis players

Tennis is the only sport I love to watch on TV. I started watching the sport when Chris Evert and Martina were the super stars.

With time younger players took charge such as Steffi Graf and Monica Seles. Monica’s tennis life was cut short by a crazy man. Steffi continued to play and after winning twenty two grand slam championships she called it quits.

After Steffi and Monica there were a few good players, but the eyes of the world was focused on, ‘The Williams Sisters.’

How these two sisters entered the famous courts of Australia, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the United States Open is amazing. Their father one day watched a tennis match, where the champion received thirty thousand dollars. He instantly made up his mind to teach his two daughters how to play tennis.

The girls were doing well. Dad decided to enter them in tennis tournaments, when they were old enough.

When they started their hair tied with beads got unnecessary attention. They were even fined when some of the beads broke loose from their hair and adorned the tennis court. The commentators and the crowd were not being nice.

These two sisters were winning match after match but the accolades were few and far between. Why were they treated so roughly, the only thing comes to mind was they were not like the European, or even the American players, their complexion was not light, it was dark.

Does it make a difference, it seems yes. These two sisters and their parents, helped them the best they can be; they did not disappoint their parents or everyone else who watched their skill.

There are four Grand-Slam tournaments in tennis in a year. The two sisters started winning most of them. Suddenly everyone started rooting for them.

Today it’s fair to say that these two sisters combined have won the most Grand Slam tournaments.

When I started watching them my favourite was Monica. After her I had no one who was my favourite . After years of watching these two sisters, I came to the conclusion, they are in my mind the best tennis players that ever stepped the courts of the world.

I think the credit goes to the father, who worked hard to make his daughters the best players in the world. Kudos to you Richard Williams.

Daily Prompt: Tenterhooks

In response to prompt : Tenterhooks

I was afraid to watch the live tennis match, I waited on tenterhooks for an hour to see the result on YouTube. The result was what I dreaded Roger’s opponent won, he lost to a guy whom he defeated six times in  previous tennis matches.

It therefore shows one shouldn’t be too confident, he relaxed for a moment and watched his match slipping away from him, and he could do nothing to stop his opponent!

Daily Prompt: Penchant

In response to prompt : Penchant

Of all the sports in the world, I have a soft spot for tennis. It began in the eighties when we only had two channels on TV , NBC and CBS. One day we noticed the players were playing a game called tennis, we  watched this game. One of the players was Christine and the opponent was Hana.

The girls won their semi-final matches, Christine was the number one player, Hana somehow managed to win the semi-final match against another player, Martina.

The day was the last and final day of the tournament. Christine the number one player, won against Hana a new player. Christine won the match, got a round  plate, which was the trophy and some money.

We wanted to watch something else, but both channels were showing the same match.

After watching the match for about an hour we learned some of the tennis vocabulary.

Somehow all of us turned into tennis fans. Now we all have our favorite  tennis players.

This is how we started watching this game we knew nothing about learned the way it’s played by just watching TV.

After all these years, I can safely say I relish watching tennis on TV. I actually have a Penchant watching Tennis!

Daily Prompt: Grand Slam

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

In your own life, what would be the equivalent of a walk-off-home-run?( For the baseball-averse, that’s a last minute, back-against-the wall play that guarantees a dramatic victory.)

I love watching some competitive sports such as tennis and figure skating, these are my favorite I can spend a long time watching them.

Past two weeks there was a grand slam tennis championship for men and women held in Wimbledon, England. I have a habit of picking my  favorite players  and I root for them. Otherwise I don’t enjoy watching the match.

My female favorite player was a twenty-one year old from Spain. I was thrilled when she reached the final. Unfortunately she had to play against Serena Williams in the final. The outcome was Serena won and Garbine Muguruza the Spanish player lost. Which meant my player lost I was disappointed and thought next time she will do better.

The men’s finalists were Roger Federer from Switzerland and Novak Djokovic from Serbia. My favorite was Roger,I was sure he’d win but he made some crucial unforced errors at the wrong time and lost the match in four sets.

This was my experience of watching a grand slam tennis championship.

365 Writing Prompts: Fandom

Are you a sports fan?Tell us about fandom. If  you’re not ,tell us why not?

You can consider me a sports fan. My number one sports is tennis, I like watching hockey once in a while if it’s a Canadian team playing an European team such as world hockey.

I loved watching the Boston Bruins ice hockey team. I don’t get to see too many of their games, their playing schedule is not convenient for me. Most of their games start at 8 PM eastern which is 9:30 PM where I live. I can only watch one period and then it’s bedtime for me. If I go to bed after one period, the thought lingers in my mind, I wonder who is winning which keeps me awake. This is why I’d rather find out in the scores in the  morning.

However tennis matches are televised during the day, which gives me a chance to watch them. I am a big fan of tennis and among males my favorite is Roger Federer and female Maria Sharapova from Russia and also Garbine Muguruza from Spain. These players are very interesting to watch and they are also very good players. When there is a match on TV when either of them is playing, I sit in front of TV and watch until it’s over.

I watched some live tennis matches in Montreal, it is a lot of fun watching with the spectators.

Another sport I am fond of is figure skating. I watch mainly on TV, I still enjoy it. I know it would be lot more fun watching it live, but it’s not possible. 🙂

Blogging 101,Day one: Introduce yourself to the world

Today’s assignment: Write and publish a “who am I and why I’m here” post on your blog.

My name is Ranu, I am a Bengali from Bangladesh. My Father was Abdus Sabeth and my mother was Tahira Khatun. I am my parents seventh child.

In my country we all have two names, one is used at home and among relatives and the other is used outside home i.e school , certificates. It’s considered a formal name.

Like others in my homeland I too have two names, Ranu is my nick name and Chaman is my name which is used in my certificates and other documents.

When I started blogging I felt comfortable using Ranu as my user name. It’s short and easy to pronounce.

I studied in schools where the medium of instruction was English. I was able to take my mother tongue  Bengali as one of the subjects .

I am blogging publicly because it motivates me to write. Before becoming a blogger, I did not write a personal journal, I did not think about it and was not interested.

My blog’s focus is mainly on writing fiction, sometimes I like writing recipes, I also like translating poems and song lyrics of Rabindranath Tagore. He was a famous Bengali poet. I enjoy reading his poems listening to his songs and translating them, my aim is to let other bloggers enjoy Tagore’s poetry and songs, which is why I like translating them.

There are a few sports, I am interested to watch, one of them is Tennis and other is Ice Hockey, especially when my favorite team  or my favorite player is playing.

In Tennis my favorite players are  Roger Federer among men and Maria Sharapova among women. If they lose early in tournaments, I’m disappointed and lose my interest.

I love cooking spicy food, and have posted some recipes on my blog.

I’m also participating in online courses since 2011, it is the study of Allama Iqbal one of Pakistan’s most favorite and well-known poet and Philosopher. It is offered by Khurram Ali Shafique, he has devoted a long time studying about Iqbal and is the perfect facilitator for all of us.

Lastly I’d like to write about  my blog name  Sabethville, I  used my father’s last name Sabeth and added ville to it.

I hope to meet a lot of other bloggers and also read their posts.
