Ghazal: Singer Jagjit Singh,Translated by Ranu

Hindi Song

When I saw you ,

I thought life is sunshine,

And you are a thick shadow.

My heart once more expressed its desire,

Once again I told my heart,

Life is sunshine and you are a thick shadow.

If you leave I’ll think,

What did I lose?

What did I gain?

The song I can’t even hum,

Why did time sing such a song?

Life is sunshine,

you are a thick shadow.

Daily Prompt : Tide

In response to prompt : Tide

Time And Tide!

I remember in my school, the teacher made up a song about tide. We loved  singing the words together, we had no idea what the meaning was, like parrots we repeated each day, ‘time and tide waits for no one.’

Now I realise that we ought to use our  time wisely, like the  tide it will not wait for us!

A song: tum ko dekha toh yeh khayal aya posted and translated by Ranu

When I see you my thought tells me,

Life is sunshine , you are thick shadow.

Today my heart has made a wish again,

I explain to my heart yet again.

Life is sunshine, you are thick shadow.

When you leave I will think,

What did I lose , what did I find?

When I see you, my thought tells me,

Life is sunshine, you are thick shadow.

The tune that I find so difficult to hum,

Why did   Time sing that kind of song!

Tagore song; ke jabi tora pare ogo ke posted and translated by Ranu

Who will go to the other side of the river,

I am waiting on the shore with my boat.

On the other side there is a garden,

They play all kinds of games.

On this side there is an endless

stretch of desert.

Who will go to the other side,

I am waiting on the shore with my boat.

It is daytime now, come who wants to go,

Why are you wasting time thinking?

The sun will set, the tail wind will stop blowing,

The boatman will anchor his boat,

In the evening.

Who will go to the other side of the river?

If your day to day responsibilities were taken care of and you could throw yourself completely behind a cause , what would it be?

If I had a lot of time and did not have any responsibilities, I’d like to devote my time teaching the kids who are generally overlooked in school.

The number of children in a class is getting larger, the kids who are helped at home do better than the ones whose parents work long hours outside home, hence they do not have much time to help their kids with homework.

Then there are kids with single parents, they are sometimes neglected not because the parent looking after does not care, but the said parent is busy working long shifts to provide for their family.

For those kids I’d volunteer my time to help them get ahead in their school work, kids are essentially very smart a little bit of guidance can help them a lot, they won’t think of doing things that are inappropriate.

DP Daily Prompt: Terminal time

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

You’re at the airport, your flight is delayed for six more hours, and none of your electronic devices is working. How do you pass the time?

A few years ago I went to the airport ten hours before the flight, When I checked the time before leaving I thought the flight was at 10 am, When I went to the counter to check in, the good man looked at me and my boarding pass, he wasn’t sure himself whether it was 10 am or 10 pm, when he looked at it the second time, he took a deep breath and rather gently gave me the bad news, “Good Heavens He expressed , Your Flight Is At 10 pm!”

I was embarrassed my brother and sister-in law had come to see me off, suggested I should go back with them, I refused to give them any more trouble and opted to stay at the airport.

You can never get bored at ‘Heathrow Airport’, there is so much to see and do, hours pass by sooner than you think.

I went to the lounge, looked around for a place to sit I sat down when I found one that I liked. I spent the first hour watching people, there were so many interesting people coming in and going out. There were people flocking to the duty free shop to buy cigarettes, candy and bottles of whisky.

I have no idea how much cheaper the duty free things are, I know the word free attached to duty certainly catches the attention of the travelers, so they buy as if this deal will subsidize the money they paid for their tickets.

Having spent considerable time watching the passengers,I felt it was time for me to eat something, I noticed a restaurant with a large sign, “EAT” I immediately got up and headed to that restaurant, they had sandwiches and other foods, for the sake of safety I chose a simple sandwich, I didn’t want to get sick while traveling.

There were five hours to go before I could board my flight, I came back to my favorite place and sat down, I looked around to see if I wanted to buy something, there were all kinds of chocolate, I bought some, back to my seat I came.

Another four hours my watch said, have you noticed when you want the hours to go faster they slow down or so it seems?

I saw the sign “Boots” made up my mind to check it out, there was nothing there I wanted,it helped me to stretch my legs for sitting so long. I think I spotted an interesting magazine, I picked it up and turned the pages, wasn’t one I’d think of buying I put it back in the shelf.

I must have spent a lot of time in that store, when I came out I looked at the video, OH My God I said my flight is boarding.

I rushed to the gate after checking in I went to sit in the passengers’ lounge. I was at ease I’d soon board the flight.

Everything after boarding the flight went well, I reached my destination safely. I cautioned myself, make sure you read the time properly, when in doubt ask someone.

DP Daily Prompt: A Bend in Time Post by Ranu

English: Rabindranath Tagore Русский: Рабиндра...

English: Rabindranath Tagore Русский: Рабиндранат Тагор (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Tagore says ,he is happy to wait and see the changing of seasons. He’d much rather sit with his doors open all by himself, and let people pass by him giving the news. This is his satisfaction,so that when the desired being shows up,he’d be ready with his arms outstretched ready to welcome his most beloved moment. It is obvious from his poem it doesn’t matter if time almost seems  standing still.

Poets are a very different breed than normal humans like me. I’m probably too restless, I want things to move like the famous,”Concord”,which I believe is grounded. It was too fast. Will I like to be grounded, heavens a capital,’NO’.

I’ve had my excitement,I wasn’t giddy,my excitement had to be controlled. I was waiting to hear if I was selected to study, M.ed. I was given a battery of tests, with very little time for each section. I usually zip through my tests this one was more important, I had to make sure I’d be selected. So I waited and waited for that envelope to come to my door.  The envelope finally arrived, I was excited and concerned at the same time. Either I made it or didn’t. Slowly I opened the letter. I read the first few lines, you are selected and to report on such and such date. I did not read the whole letter. I was satisfied to know I passed the exam. I always have trouble waiting.

I wish I  could be like Tagore waiting patiently for the news  and while waiting,  singing and laughing  in my mind, how great it would be!

DP Daily Prompt: Standstill Post by Ranu

Time is important in our lives, yet we aren’t concerned when we waste it. Whether we  do so by idle gossip, lazing around, watching television,or nothing at all. Despite the fact we keep hearing the words “Time and Tide waits for no one!”

If “Time” itself gives us the opportunity by standing still, for just a moment, what on earth can we tweak in,at that precise moment? Personally,I’d pray to God to forgive me for all the time I’ve wasted doing unimportant things when I had the time to thank Him for being so kind to me , providing me with : food, shelter, all the necessities of life and above all friends and awesome people I met in this life!
