Blogging 201, Day Two: Audit Your Brand

Today’s assignment: Audit your  _ look all the ways you communicate information about your blog to make sure they’re focused and consistent.

I go with my tagline,” Savor kindness because cruelty is always possible later.”

I started blogging by translating the poems of Tagore, and also by translating a lot of his songs. My intention is always to entertain my readers. If I only embed his songs and fail to translate, it leaves the reader wondering, could she not translate it. It was to remove doubts that I’m a real Bengali, who lives and breathes the language, and also to find out for myself if I really can translate into English, Tagore’s Bengali lyrics.

As far as branding goes my blog is an assortment of everything. It has fiction and non-fiction, my likes and dislikes, recipes of foods the reader may enjoy reading or even try.

I hope my posts truly explains, whether I’m kind or the opposite.

Will it be appropriate if I write my blog’s branding as “A medley of different posts?”

Sorry for not posting it yesterday, I had issues with my internet connection, which could not be fixed. 😦

365 Writing Prompts: Blogging

When I started blogging I knew nothing about it. I read a post written by Robert another blogger and wondered if I should try as well. I had no idea how to begin I was helped by Akhtar Waseem Dar, he suggested to start translating some of Tagore’s Poems because I am a Bengali and know the language.

It wasn’t easy, as a young child poetry was my best subject, I read all kinds of poetry written by famous poets. I learned English, Bengali and Urdu in school. I learned to read, write and speak in these languages. Since Bengali is my mother tongue, I had more opportunities to read Bengali poems written by famous poets.

I loved Tagore’s poems, he wrote a lot of poems for children, one of them was: Brishti paurhey tapur tupur : meaning Rain is falling drip drop. This was the first one I translated, Akhtar Bhai(Bhai means brother in Bengali and Urdu) I use brother to show respect. He read the translation and encouraged me a lot. He thought I did a good job. I began to feel confident, I continued to translate Tagore’s poems for a while, then I switched to his song lyrics and started translating them as well. All this time Akhtar Bhai continued to encourage me. There were times I felt insecure, I didn’t know if my translation was worth reading. I’d let my daughter read it before posting, she’d read it and say: “Mom I like it.” this encouraged me more.

Now Robert whom I’ve known from my online courses is a great help, he reads everything I write and always writes very valuable and encouraging comment.

Then there is Khurram A.Shafique, a writer I’ve known through online courses, he is also the facilitator of the course. I address him as brother. He has been very helpful like a real brother. I feel fortunate to have these three awesome individuals encouraging me.

I cannot remember how but along the way I met Leslie Moon, she is a very gifted poet , I love reading her poetry, I write my comment most of the time, sometimes I’m not sure what to write.

I had once mentioned about not having enough readers of my post, she encouraged me to read posts written by other bloggers. I do read some of the posts and leave my comment. This is how I met Indira.

I am happy I have written and posted quite a few translations, stories, a few poems.  I love reading and memorizing poems but writing them regularly is not one of my strong points, so I leave it for Leslie to write and me to enjoy 🙂

DP Daily Prompt: Share The Love Post by Ranu

My online journey began in November 2011. I did not start blogging then,I registered for a course to study about the great poet and Philospher, Sir Allama Mohammad Iqbal. This course is offered by Iqbal Academy.The course facilitator is ,Khurram Ali Shafique. Because I showed a lot of interest about the great poet and Philosopher,I was asked if I was interested to register for the course offered by the academy. I was thrilled and immediately indicated I would be glad to study about Iqbal.Mr Shafique registered me at once, thus began my online journey. A few months later,Robert a course participant started a blog, I read it and wanted to know from Mr. Shafique,if I could start one of my own. He encouraged me and thought it would be a good idea.

I was not familiar how to get started.My daughter,Selina is a computer programmer. She did some research and found WordPress to be the best of the ones she read about. I did not know much about blogging,I roamed around and read the posts of different bloggers.The ones I picked were the ones written by other participants who were registered for the same course.Every now and then I would yell out,’Selina , can you help me?’

I must say I am somewhat comfortable writing the posts. I am grateful to Mr. Shafique, despite his busy schedule, he takes time to read my blogs and leaves a comment. Mr. Akhtar Wasim Dar is another person who has from time to time given me advice about my posts and is always very generous when he writes his comments. He gave me the idea of translating, Rabindranath Tagore’s poems. He takes his time, reads them and leaves amazing comments. Robert is another course participant who helps me immensely. He never fails to read all my posts and types his wonderful comments. I could not just name one person,all these wonderful people are behind my blogging. I am glad I got this opportunity to do something I dearly love. I get the privilege of reading some very amazing posts.
