Daily Prompt : Panicked

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Panicked

Last night I panicked I couldn’t find my wallet,

I thought I  put it in my reliable old   pocket.

Why was it not there I could not decipher,

Was it  in my purse and failed to remember?

Sometimes my mind plays tricks  I detest,

This  is not the  time for jokes  I protest.

Suddenly my daughter shook me hard,

‘Wake up  and quickly   sign the card!’

Fiction: Open

Lillie McFerrin Writes

Emily was going out with her friend Sally to the supermarket to buy some food, her mother told her not to open her wallet in front of strangers, she said, “You never know who is watching.”

Okay mom she said, “I will remember, but please do not forget I am a grownup.”

The two friends were on their way to the market, as they were approaching their destination, a young man stopped them, “Miss can I have a  quarter to put in the meter I don’t have change, I do not want to get a ticket,”  he said.

Emily immediately opened her wallet to look for a quarter, her wallet was full of cash, the young man noticed it,  she gave him the coin and hurried to the market, the  man followed them, when they reached the corner he pushed Emily, who lost her balance and fell on the ground and her wallet went flying on the pavement, Sally came to her aid to make sure she did not hurt  herself.

Without wasting any time the man grabbed the wallet, looked at  both sides of the street and took off!

DP Daily Prompts: All or Nothing?

“Perhaps if we find ourselves wanting everything, it is because we are dangerously close to wanting nothing.”—-Sylvia Plath

In my estimation, a human being by nature wants a place of his/ her own, next thing is  someone to share it  with and child/ children to raise. When these things are accomplished the other material things are desired because of necessity.

Things I consider important to run a house smoothly are 1. A stove, 2. A refrigerator, 3. pots and pans, 4. dishes, 5. glasses, 6. cups or mugs.

A dishwasher is an appliance one can do without, it though is convenient to have especially when we have company.

When we successfully acquire all the above things, what more can anyone want, we need food and drink to survive, they are life saving things. Tea and coffee to me is optional, we won’t die if we decide not to drink them.

I hope Sylvia Plath when she said, “Perhaps when we find ourselves wanting everything, we are dangerously close to wanting nothing.” She did not mean the most important things to live.

Right now there are a variety of things for sale, each store is competing to make more money, they are slashing prices to tempt the consumers. Each store window has a large sale sign of products on sale, it attracts our attention, we go in and find things that look so awesome we are trying not to get tempted, to be successful we step out of one store and go to another, we find this one has more things on sale which is irresistible, we check our wallet, there is not enough, but we have that faithful card which beckons us to use it.

We think for a moment and realize yes we can use the card but we’ll have to pay for the things we buy at the end of the month, we think some more about our savings, no we cannot afford it we tell ourselves, quietly we come out and say, “I don’t think I want anything.”

It really is true some of the things we buy are not necessary!

DP Daily Prompt: Worst Case Scenario

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Of all the awful possibilities, what’s the worst possible thing that could happen to you today?

I do not want to end up with a house full of unannounced guests. My dishwasher which is hardly used does not work, the city has started rolling black outs and the supermarket is empty. There is no food left. I’m about to tear my hair because there is nothing I can do.

I can handle the dishwasher problem by washing the dishes myself.

The rolling black outs will be a major problem, I have an electric stove, no electricity means I won’t be able to cook for my hungry guests.

Lack of food in the supermarket will be difficult, even if all the other things were in super condition.

The only way I’d solve all of this is by taking the guest out to dinner, they could order anything they want, but wait what if after eating as much as they could, I go to pay the bill, I open my hand bag and find my wallet missing, the anxiety, the embarrassment would make me run for cover. Can so many things go wrong in one day, it can if I am unlucky.

Thank God it’s imaginary!

Blogging Challenge: Letter W

Warehouses are filled with assorted stuff

Men and women cannot decide what they want

Wife says to husband picking anything is tough

They watch and they wonder what do they want!

Along came  kids dancing and prancing

We know how to tell you without thinking

Wow says the mom and the dad

We wish we could have more kids like that!

Upon arriving at the cash register

Out he took out his wallet to pay

Woe to me my bills  are stuck together

I wasn’t expecting this today!

Why is this happening he queried

Wife said honey, “I’m worried”

Who’d lend us some moolah

I’d lend you I’m Beulah!
